Schneider should have been playing everyday once he was called up. Glad they're finally playing him everyday now. Gotta keep those hot bats in the lineup!

Don't underestimate Davis's uncle; John. The moment he goes hitless it will be Espinal's time.

The way Schneider has been hitting, he'd be getting playing time everyday for just about any other team.

Schneider has a 13.7% chase rate so far.

For comparison's sake, Juan Soto's is 16.0%.

I lol'd when I saw this come across the ticker on MLBN *Davis Schneider 3 game HR streak snapped at 3* Cracked me up.

If Schneider continues to OPS over 1.400 while the rest of the team is in the .600s and we make the playoffs I think we need to start having discussions about whether he should be the MVP over Ohtani.

100%. Especially now that Ohtani was being selfish by hurting his arm when they were trying to make a playoff push.

The longer Schneider's hot streak continues the more his projections go up.

Prior to today's 1-2 game with 2 BBs, a SB and 0 Ks, Steamer was projecting him for a 114 wRC+ for the ROS. Combine that with decent projected defense and this dude is turning into a very legit asset moving forward.

He'll obviously cool off but he's looking like a legit 2B that can hit in the top half of a playoff caliber lineup.

if he can take close pitches, have a good eye at the plate then everything else plays from there. He's only 13 games into his big league career. Can definitely see Atkins taking a chance and going with him as the starting 2B next season. Right now there's nothing not to like about his game

They got literally zero "prospect points" off him lol. Imagine the "25th best" farm system's virtual non-prospect being this guy.

Great point. If they were to update their rankings how could you keep this guy off the Top 100? Top 75? Maybe top 50 even?

Eric Longenhagen said in the most recent Effectively Wild podcast that Schneider isn’t legit and he’d be surprised if he makes it to 600 career PAs. Pleaded for pitchers to stop throwing him pitches down the middle and said it won’t be long until he gets exposed for not being able to hit a high fastball.

Schneider’s homer today was off a high fastball lol.

I'm keeping my expectations very low

Only way to be. Davis has had a historic start but this a humbling game of failure most times for most, over the long haul.

He also swung through a bunch of high pitches recently. Seems he can handle the high ones if they're under 95, mucho trouble above 95.

He also knows his weakness and works on it daily and so far seems pretty quick to adjust. I'd probably take the over on 600 career PAs

Sure, but this applies to most hitters. I'd venture to guess that only a small handful of hitters are going to consistently hit 95+ up in the zone. There are also only a limited number of pitchers who can consistently locate 95+ up in the zone without missing. He seems to have advanced swing decisions and good strike zone judgement so its easier said than done to say "just locate three 95+ mph strikes up at the top of the zone to get him out".

Maybe it all falls apart for him and he's just on some absurd heater, but I don't get what anyone could have seen so far to suggest that this is just some absurd fluke. He seems very selective at the plate and is absurdly primed to hit fastballs. The HR he hit today came on an 0-2 fastball; how was he not late trying to protect for an offspeed pitch in a clear non-fastball count? Did he just guess correctly?

That's interesting to hear Lonegan say that.

During last year when Judge hit 62 (and ESPN force fed me live coverage of his ABs while I watched CFB) it seemed like everything he hit out of the park was a meatball.

So if Schneider just keeps hitting meatballs out he should just be fine.

Yea. That's a stupid take from Longenhagen. If you're able to punish mistakes at an elite rate, you can be an MVP candidate.

Schneider does have a good approach. But he also does have a high whiff rate and K rate. It’s fine as is as long as he keeps hitting for power though

Currently Schneider has the third highest HR/FB% compared to all Qualified hitters. Ohtani and Burger are 1-2.

Schneider's is 27.3% and his highest in the minors was 18-19% so I imagine some regression to the mean is in order!
