Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Missed the game: did something happen to Springer? Not a lot of ABs for him. He got hit on the hand by a pitch and left the game. But he but took X-rays which came back negative so he's just day-to-day.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 The final 11 outs by the Jays pitching staff 10 K's 1 GO... lol they stink.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Sweeeep!!! Omar stand in... Thanks pal. Work is starting to get in the way of baseball. What a cruel world.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 They must not like the bongos You keep saying things like this but early evidence says less f***ing around has lead to more wins
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Lol what a quote Wow. Sound’s totally defeated.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Whit Merrifield makes less than $3M right now Why did the Royals even trade him?
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Why did the Royals even trade him? I guess they were worried he was cooked? It's looking like they sold low on him though so good for Toronto, in hindsight.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Samad Taylor has potential, and hopefully he gets a shot with the Royals at some point, but yeah that's looking like a sneaky good trade in hindsight. Merrifield clearly has something left in the tank, and has basically been playing like a ~3 WAR player since the trade. He's been a huge pickup given that Espinal looks more like a utility IF and there's a good chance Biggio stinks. There's no way the Jays pick up that 2024 option, but wouldn't shock me at all if they brought Merrifield back on a multi year deal assuming both sides are interested. Not like the internal options on the Jays for 2B or 3B look promising right now with Chapman's impending free agency. They could use the depth/insurance. Still a lot of season left though, so a lot can change.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 You keep saying things like this but early evidence says less f***ing around has lead to more wins Or have a better/deeper team leads to more wins. There is no way to draw any conclusions about this. It's not even worth the discussion.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Playing for a s*** team year after year is probably a mental drain It doesn't help that they won the World Series a year before he came up. Poor guy.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Lol what a quote The f***ers the new team nickname for 2023.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Didn't get to see the game, but noticed that our pitchers struck out 10 of final 11 batters. Very impressive! Our relievers are actually striking out about 25% batters which is pretty good. They just need to cut down on the home runs.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Great series win and sweep by the Jays! Need to beat up on the crappy teams! Gotta be happy with this start from the team!

I think the home runs are going to work their way down as the season progresses. The relievers aren't being overused so badly with the rotation rolling the way it is.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 The White Sox batters couldn't have had much fun in this game, they struck out a combined 17 times against Jays pitching.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 The fellas are rolling. Staff has done a complete 180 and alleviated any major concerns for now. Pearson in the pen Tiedemann in the wings Mitch White time soon!!

Pearson in the pen Tiedemann in the wings Mitch White time soon!! I wonder who gets demoted when White is ready, if Pearson & Pop are both pitching well? In a major contended year, it doesn't make sense to play the options game just to keep everyone and demote a better option in Pearson or Pop. Is there any chance White gets waived or do they just DFA Bass?

Is there any chance White gets waived or do they just DFA Bass? Yeah I think they'll cut Bass, or make the unpopular choice to option Pop or Pearson. No chance they let White go. SP depth is way too thin. Tiedemann - the exciting good option Bowden Francis - decent option Zulu - can't throw strikes Thompson - horrible Robberse - too green Hatch - is relieving now Hutchison - lol Ryu - who knows You'd probably slot Juenger as a 2-3 inning "SP" third on this list.

Is there any chance White gets waived or do they just DFA Bass? Have to keep White. He sucks but he’s #6 on the depth chart right now. It’ll be interesting what they do. I’d cut Bass, and then Cimber would be next. They’re going to have to bite the bullet on some of these guys eventually. Green and Ryu, Tiedemann maybe at some point. Not enough seats at the dinner table. I bet they chicken out and option Nate though. Pop is tough to justify at this point.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Unfortunately optioning Pop or Pearson makes the most sense so you don't lose any depth, unless Bass continues to suck and it really hurts the team to keep him over the other two. I don't see them cutting Cimber. He was obviously pitching with an injury and he's also under control next season, where as Bass is a free agent. No way is Bass back next season, but Cimber might be.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 When you have the rotation pitching deeper into games, that's going to help keep the bullpen fresh on a day-to-day basis. It makes a difference.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 The other relief options on the 40 man SUCK. Jay Jackson, Thornton, Hatch, etc. Calling upon someone not on the 40 man doesn't really help the situation either, it would just add to the logjam. For that reason it makes sense to keep Bass and move him down the pecking order while he works through the kinks. They could juggle it by optioning Pop or using the IL for both real and phantom injuries. It's not ideal but this is the inconvenience we deal with when it comes to having a stacked bullpen. We could also try him for a non 40-man lotto ticket but I doubt he'd fetch much. It would just suck to lose Bass for nothing, get a couple of injuries and then all of the sudden Jay Jackson and Trent Thornton are logging meaningful innings.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
