Oh, no argument regarding the starts. But his tweet has a cringeworthy feel.

I agree. His career has not been legendary.

Which active pitchers have had “legendary careers” ?

Verlander

Scherzer

Kershaw

Zack Greinke, perhaps Gerrit Cole.

I like Stroman a lot

f*** the haters

Haha I do as well. He can be a bit much, but it feels like rooting for your cocky little brother. He's a bit of a little s*** but you still want to see him succeed.

I like Stroman as well. I was actually hoping the Jays extended him a few years back. Since he came into the league he's been a top 20 SP in baseball based on WAR, and that's with missing nearly all of 2015 with an injury (which he came back from early and helped in the playoffs) and sitting out 2020. He's had a really good career.

Yeah would add those two in there for sure.

Only other guy I could think of maybe Adam Wainwright, but when looking back between 2015-2019 he was awful for a couple of years and missed some time because of injuries. Turned his career around, but he was never able to stay as dominant as Verlander or Scherzer into his late 30's. He's been really solid the past three seasons but nothing elite.

If Cole continues to pitch at an elite level into his late 30's like Verlander/Scherzer and reaches 70 WAR for his career, definitely a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Bumgarner from 2010 to 2016 was looking legendary especially in the Postseason. Since he signed with Arizona, he's been really awful.

Stroman is like how Mike said Sonny Gray is always undervalued. Pretty durable guy who can give you 3 wins above replacement. The player the Jays need Berrios to be.

Yeah even when Stroman came up through the Jays system, was always compared to Sonny Gray.

We just need Berrios to be a 3-4 WAR arm like you said. Would make a huge difference over a full season.

That trade was very good for the Jays, an expiring contract for Swanson and Macko was a very healthy move moving forward. Solid move.

In isolation the trade is very debatable.

A RP with only one elite yr who didn't pitch much high leverage - 3 years control and a lotto ticket for a rock solid 130 stick in a year we want to really contend(even if we aren't resigning). Pen arms are just f***ing risky and its not like Swanson throws 102. Its the splitter or bust.

Teo is off to a slow SEA start but SSS. When you look at the deal with the KK and Varsho deals, and the goal to improve the OF D in '23 and beyond, it totally makes sense. Didnt like his split last night but I'm sure glad we have him in our pen this year.

Yeah the deal makes sense in terms of the offseason goal to improve the outfield D.

With Varsho and KK added, along with Springer in RF, Teo didn't really have a spot in the outfield unless he played 2 times per week giving someone a day off or if an injury occurred. Only other position was being an everyday DH.

If Swanson goes on and has 1.5 - 2 WAR seasons out of the pen for the next three years, then the deal looks good. Jays definitely took on more risk with a BP arm who is unproven in the late innings versus a solid corner OF bat, but we'll see. Only way Jays fans we'll have any regret is if Teo has a monster season in 2023. If he is just a 2-3 WAR outfielder like he was last season, don't think I'll lose any sleep over the move.

Yeah, in isolation sure, but we all knew there was another shoe to drop after that trade, and it was Varsho, I'm content with what they did. Macko's starting today in MILB.

Stroman is a solid pitcher.

But what kind of f***ing idiot calls himself "legendary"?

Probably Alex Manoah will soon.

hmmm....well I think you are more enamored with the FO than I, so you knew. I didn't. My view of them is more tempered for a few reasons. I am content too on the deal (s) in totality also. No risk no reward.

Yeah. We have 4 guys capable of playing CF now. It's amazing. Making so many more plays.

I don't think the Jays win last night game against the Angels with last year's OF defense.

I am a big Stroman fan. He's bombastic and in your face, but I like that. I also like that he goes after racists hard on social media.

Yeah there was a running catch both Varsho and Springer made in the late innings yesterday. I don't think Tapia or Hernandez cover that ground.

He's annoying on social media, but I'll always like him for what he did during his tenure with the Jays. Him coming back at the end of 2015 making some big starts against the Yankees and helping them in the Postseason. He was a gamer for sure those two seasons.

I like that anyone goes after racists hard... but with Stroman, just say something negative about his start or something and you're suddenly a racist.

A large factor in the trade that I think gets missed sometimes is the money. I look at the contract for a similar hitter like Michael Conforto and wonder how much a player like Teo is really worth. I think we did very well to get some serious value out of him.

Yeah they basically turned Teo into Swanson + Keirmaier + Half of Belt’s salary. Now you could argue we should have gotten more for Teo, but how valuable is he really? 3 years of a mid to back-end reliver is fair for both sides.

Also interesting note, Teo is the 2nd highest paid player on the Mariners roster this year… after Robbie Ray

We got Adam Macko as well. He's absolutely got MLB upside.

Anyone listen to him on Overdrive? Gibby was mentioning how Stroman has gotten too big for his britches cause he won't even call him back about going on his podcast.

I seem to remember Gibby commenting on one of Stroman’s tweets last year with a little joke and Stroman blocked him.
