There are only 47 qualified batters in all of MLB this year with an ISO > .200 sir.

Minimum 300 PA takes that number up to 85 players!

I'm mostly exaggerating with the .200 ISO part, but adding power to the lineup should be the focus. Thankfully Schneider has that profile, and Orelvis has that profile, so at least internally there are players who can add power to the lineup if/when they are given a chance to play everyday.

No Babe again tonight. JS trying to distract us from that fact by putting Chapman in the 8th spot, but no one is buying that.

I'm not sold yet on Orelvis being ML ready, and I'm still hesitant to pencil in Schneider as a difference maker, though I think he should definitely be the starting 2B next season.

If Orelvis starts in Buffalo next season and goes off in the first month or so, yeah, he's gotta come up.

Chapman has to punted atleast 30-40 million on his total contract for how bad he’s been. Still an easy guy to qualify but he needs to show some semblance of life soon.

Lol @ no Schneider again

Wow we can’t hit the ball out of the infield better sit the teams best power hitter

No doubt they are doing this because Schneider is 0 for his last 33 PA, but if they want to play the small sample size game, then Biggio in his last 30 PA has a .120 average and 41 wRC+, and that's without hitting like prime Barry Bonds for a month before that. Then there's Chapman who is 0-for-life since May and continues to play. Incredibly frustrating.

I think John is sinking or swimming with the veterans because they’ve “been there before”

To be fair, they probably believe the veterans have a better chance of pulling out of the slump and getting the job done in crunch time than the young Schneider does. Babe is 3 for his last 49 and 0 for his last 33 with 20 K's - it certainly seems like the league figured something out. This will be unpopular, but there's a chance the FO is making the right call here.

He is not showing the ability to deal with pitches on the outer edge, especially breaking balls. He's got to learn to foul off pitches on the outer edge with 2 strikes or lay off them outside the zone, especially breaking balls because he really can't do much else with it. I don't want him trying to hit it the other way unless he hits line drives because he doesn't have opposite field power with fly balls.

He made a great adjustment to the high inside pitches, so maybe he'll figure out the outside pitch in time. But this team needs wins. I don't mind this decision. He can always pinch hit against LHP.

I don't really recall but did any big bats move at the deadline? Does Burger qualify ?

Laika posted a list. Nothing great but some good pieces. Hard to say who might have been available depending on the deal.

Nobody that I know saw the Berrios deal coming in 21. I really thought they might surprise us again seeing the under performance they were seeing.

This Jays team needs three hits in an inning to score runs. Very difficult to have 3 hits. Jays cannot steal bases or hit home runs.

No analytics matchups that Schneider does will improve this offence sad to say

Can’t help but feeling last night was foreshadowing for what the playoffs are going to look like.

Finishing wild card 3 is so paramount for advancing.

Lol are you completely forgetting the series we just had in the Trop??

IF the jays play lile that, they advance. Minnesota is a wildcard, they could smash us honestly.

But yeah playing TB for a 3rd series in 2 weeks, at the trop, does not make me feel comfortable. Neither does Minnesota.

Its all a wash IMO. As long as we don’t have play the Os.

Minnesota's pitching is going to be a problem if we face them. It's a notch above what we have for sure. Which would be fine if we had any sort of reliable offense, which we don't.

Tampa is no walk at the beach either. They also have the starting pitching but a more dynamic offense.

I guess Minnesota is more beatable because they don't have quite the offensive talent but honestly, either of those teams really should beat us.

Minnesota is also likely to have an issue with Blue Jays pitching as well, and the two pitching staffs as a whole have posted basically interchangeable whole season numbers to the point if you did an A/B comparison of the numbers side by side you'd be hard pressed to choose which team was which. The Twins definitely get the edge in the rotation with the 1-2 punch of Gray and Lopez which could see the Jays in trouble scoring runs.

One thing which may help the Jays out in the wild card round is that they are a much better offense on the road vs at home. The home/road splits are pretty remarkable, as they are the 6th highest scoring club in MLB away from Rogers Center, but that moves down to 25th at home. I had a look at the Jays runs scored and runs allowed at home and away, and their

home offense is so bad that they have all of a +5 run differential at home vs a run differential of +63 on the road.

Tampa is so injury depleted that I can see them bowing out of the playoffs rather early depending on who makes it back to health in time for the playoffs.

Is there any reason why Ricky Tiedemann isn't getting a look with the big club?

We don't have any other elite pitcher other than Gausman, and I'm not the type that ever just wants to piss away a postseason birth without trying every weapon you have at your disposal. Who knows when we get back to the postseason next?

I would have liked to have seen what he could have been against major league hitters for a few innings and at least considered him for the postseason roster. I don't see anybody talking about this but is there any specific reason why they aren't doing this?

I doubt he's really ready to compete against major league hitters. The stuff is absolutely filthy but he's walking nearly 6 runners per nine innings over his last 8 starts. That doesn't really portray someone with the necessary command to succeed in the post season.

It took 158 games but Schneider has now moved Bo to the cleanup spot. Is there somewhere lower we can bat Chapman? Like right off the lineup.

"Not ready" I guess

They chose to send him to the Arizona Fall League instead

It's not the least defensible move to not yet promote a guy with command issues that still need some working out.

He wouldn't be playoff eligible even if they did bring him up now for a few innings in maybe one or two of the last 4 games of the season and I doubt the 3-5 innings max he would get in that kind of plan would significantly impact his development in a positive way

Hahaha crazy how things turned. Still getting paid just not nearly as much

Yeah but a lot of strikeouts, not a lot of home runs, it works for Ian Snell. I still would have liked to have taken a look at him, this is a roster that needs as much talent as it can squeeze into the postseason. Maybe the major league coaches could have even helped him make an adjustment or two. I'd rather give him Cabrera's innings.

I know he wouldn't be eligible now but this is something they really should have thought about and quite frankly done earlier. He could've been lightning in a bottle. Worst case scenario, he's not ready and you send him back. There was no harm in trying. Wasted opportunity IMO.

Twins have some good starting pitching that often gets overlooked. We talk about how amazing the Jays rotation is, but the Twins you could say is pretty much equivalent or even a bit better. Twins are no different than the Jays (strong pitching but weak lineup).

Gray - 5.2 WAR

Lopez - 4.5 WAR

Ryan - 2.5 WAR

Ober - 2.2 WAR

I actually would rather face the Rays instead of the Twins.

Well they have the thing that I've been saying all season the Blue Jays don't have: a true number two.

If we had a true number two, now Berrios ends up in a perfect spot as your three. If you're going to have a guy like Berrios as your number two, you need a better offense to support it.

Maybe your standards are a little high with regards to number 2 starters. Berrios is 25th in all of MLB by FWAR this season. By your definition the "true" number 2 starter is incredibly rare with only a handful of teams possessing a number 2 pitcher of this nature.

Berrios is probably more of a 2A or excellent No. 3 starter. He's not one the top No. 2 starters out there agreed, but he's still very good.

Jays pitching is fine, but yeah their offense needs to perform better if they want to have any chance at winning in a series. Can't expect this team to win 1-0 or 2-0 games every time out.

My standards are world series champion. So yeah that sounds about right. Most teams will not have enough pieces to be a world series champion so the pieces required should be rare. Aces are rare, elite closers are rare, superstars are rare. That's why there's only a handful of teams that are actual favourites.

Of course we could have made up for the fact that Berrios is a notch below by having a much better offense, you need one or the other but you can't have neither is my point.
