I just kind of lurked that board back then, but yeah it was him of the 70,000 post count. It was impressive just how much he would post.

Did anyone have the Jays giving up the least runs in their bold predictions?

501 - 1st place as of tonight

Posted
Well it seems pretty clear at this point that the Blue Jays are done with him pitching at the major league level this year. Even if there's an injury it seems they would be content to go with an opener over him.

Agreed and I hope that is the case. At this point he is a distraction and his production is suspect at best on the major league roster right now. I hope they are saying that they don't need him to go down to Buffalo now because he isn't going to get a call up anyway. A couple of good outings at AAA won't mean he gets trusted in a playoff game.

He needs to get his body and mind straightened out and see you in Spring Training 2024 big guy.

No because it wouldn't have been a bold prediction. All of us genius baseball doods here knew it was a foregone conclusion.

As per the plan of Ross "Run Prevention" Atkins after all

Yup its worked out well, just the offense fell apart for no good reason really. You can argue we subtracted Gurriel and Teo sure, but almost everyone else has also massively regressed.

Annoying season

Ladies and Gentleman, Introducing your starting first basemen, with 2 WAR and a 135 wRC+, for the Toronto Blue Jays...Brandon Belt??!!!

Got to admit, I thought Belt might be washed. I didn't mind the signing because there was very little risk for not a lot of dollars but it clearly is coming up roses for us now.

He was definitely a fantastic pickup. Low risk/high reward signing. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. Glad Belt has been able to stay healthy and be a huge contributor. Those were real nice FA signings by Atkins last offseason - Belt and KK.

Absolutely. Their pillow deals overall have been excellent. I mean we could have used Bellinger (right Term?), and we didn't get anything out of Yates, or much out of Chatwood (smaller deals). Semien and Ray etc were obviously off the charts exceptional wins. Always inherent mutual risk in these deals, but its a bite sized chunk.

Yeah and you can add to this some of the smaller trades to fill out the roster are paying huge dividends this year. Mainly Richards, Swanson, and Merrifield.

Swanson has almost as much WAR as Teoscar!

Toronto's roster is so well constructed this year. It really is just a few core players underperforming, that is weighing the team down. Vlad, Springer, Manoah, Kirk, and Varsho (but DV is kind of doing alright now all things considered).

If Vlad and Manoah were hitting projections the Jays would be ahead of Tampa and right on the Orioles heels.

f***ing sucks.

One of these years hopefully the team fires on all cylinders and wins 100 games.

For sure. All fair. OTOH I think we are getting more out of Belt and KK than expected.

I wasn't a big fan of moving a year of Teo's bat in win now mode for a RP, who had one big year.

Who knows if Teo would be doing better if he were with the Jays but he hasn't been good there, and he isn't here now. Ironically I think his D has been better for them lol. (hopefully he doesn't go off down the stretch)

The deal has worked out. Old 130 wRC+ Teo would be nice for us in the 3/4 spot and against LHP especially - but then we don't have Swanson. All in all net gain...especially with the Swanson control.

Too late... wRC+ 168 in August. :P

One of the best plays by Bo this season, incredible

I was so afraid when he turned around and launched that throw. I thought it was going into the seats. Great play.

Maybe it's the angle but shouldn't Vladdy stretch towards the ball? Kinda looks like he caught it when it almost reach his chest.

Yates totally f***ed us. If he pitched like 15 innings even we likely make the playoffs that year.

Every f***ing year. Can never just go on a roll like Rays this year, Seattle now, or Yankees last year.

Ans even when we DO go on a roll (2021) we still miss the playoffs in gut-wrenching fashion

Argh. I gave up watching his stats so often. Can't say as I'm surprised. Just looked. Still only at 104 and 1.3 WAR overall. I wish they would have jettisoned him back to us at the deadline.

Ya. That stung. He was kind of the Chad Green lottery ticket scenario, and the cost reflected the risk.

Wasn’t it like 9 million?? Same we’re paying Belt… what a difference. Also I think that was Ray’s salary too

Yates 5.5M.

Green 8.5M over 2 years with a multi layered option deal.

Green is guaranteed $2.25 million this year, after which the contract can extend in the following ways:

• First, the Blue Jays get a club option covering the 2024-26 seasons for $27 million over three years, with annual performance bonuses of up to $1 million based on games pitched;

• If the Blue Jays decline that option, Green gets a player option for the 2024 season worth $6.25 million with up to $2 million in bonuses based on games pitched;

• If Green declines that, the Blue Jays get a final $21-million, two-year club option covering 2024-25 with annual performance bonuses of up to $1 million based on games pitched.

Kind of hard to see the Jays picking up either of those options. Green picks up his if eligible and if he ends the year on a weird note or injured, I guess?

Gotta love f***ing Heineman screwing us out of an extra couple weeks of Green pitching for the big club.

What a stupid situation
