connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Well the standard is a business cost vs benefits assessment. If the combination of Bass' performance and his off field stuff is on balance negative to the Jays org, he will be cut. If not, he will be retained. I don't think anyone of you will argue against "the invisible hand" as the basis of deciding Bass' fate. How would you even weigh it though? Anecdotal letters from gay groups that probably never even went to a game? Twitter dislikes? I’m not sure what kind of data goes into that decision. We’ll see what happens I guess

In this day and age if you want to say your something different it is widely accepted. Im not saying I land on one side or the other, but there is always going to be people who think thats f***ed up, that will never change. The smart people keep it to themselves. Based on Bass' twitter and social media history he is not very smart about these kinds of things. It shouldn't surprise anyone that this happened to him. If I were a coach on the Jays id tell him to stay the f*** off social media and just pitch, or you will be gone. It will blow over if he shuts up. Edited May 31, 2023 by Jays333
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Its fine to apologize when you realize you were being an ass, but don’t apologize for stupid s*** if you don’t mean it. I meant to these insane outrage mobs. An apology is just an admission of guilt.

I’m not sure what kind of data goes into that decision. We’ll see what happens I guess The marketing side of the Jays probably has demographic data and information on prevailing social attitudes to help make a business assessment. Regardless, it is probable Bass is at the top of the "most likely to be traded" heap.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 The most basic factual levels of biology prove that boys have dicks and girls have vaginas. Its pretty plain and simple. Everyone quote tweet But you're wrong, people being quiet is what allowed this ******** in the first place. I don't understand why sports have to involve themselves in this. Just leave it alone and if someone on your team does something entirely benign that 0 people should care about, don't run that player out to release a completely inauthentic apology, defend that he has the right to his own personal views. I'm sick of teams caving on this stuff.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Just noticed Biggio's wRC+ in May is 127. Is there much hope that could continue and allow him to be a contributor?
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Except he made it everyone’s business by posting on his public social media account. You can have your own opinions but keep them to yourself or you open yourself to scrutiny That is true and I agree. I'm not interested in any of their opinions.

Someone there provided like a single can to this person, who posted it on their own social media. Bud Light wasn't going around pushing it to other places. It was found by conservative media and then blown up. I don't care what you think about the issue. What happened was that conservative media found something they could run with, and ran it as hard as they could. The amount of social media attention on this person skyrocketed only once conservative media pushed it.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 From what I've read on why a lot more companies and corporations are going woke is that because it helps with their ESG score. According to Google an ESG score "is a measure of how well a company addresses risks with respect to environmental, social, and governance issues in its day-to-day work and operations." It pretty much is a social credit system for major companies and corporations. Here is a link that further explains what an ESG score is: https://www.sganalytics.com/blog/what-is-esg-score-and-how-is-it-calculated/ Other interesting read as well how ESG scores are tied with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and how over 250 of the worlds largest companies are on board: https://corpgov.law.harvard.edu/2018/10/04/un-sustainable-development-goals-the-leading-esg-framework-for-large-companies/
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 It really comes down to just basic “let’s try to attract new customers”, without any regard to your current ones. Assuming everyone now has the same hive mind

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 What's a "two-up" bullpen session? probably threw, sat down for a bit, then threw again Yeah probably just simulating being in a real start. Throw 10-20 pitches, take a break to simulate waiting between innings, thrown another 10-20. Chad Green probably doesn't even need to practice this until very late in his recovery and even then if he's essential and you want to rush him then only limit him to 1 inning stints which is already reasonable injury or not.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Isn’t that how every business ends up going though? Always trying to push for growth and more profits Again, it’s a good case study as someone said bc going after new business is only part of the equation. If you lose the market share you have chasing after new market share, it’s not good
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Anyways, the convo is winding down and the mods should just let it runs it’s natural course and die out lol Today we would be talking baseball
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Just noticed Biggio's wRC+ in May is 127. Is there much hope that could continue and allow him to be a contributor? It's honestly not even May, it's literally the last 1.5 weeks or so. From May 1-19 he had a 5 wRC+, with zero walks, a 35% K rate, 3 hits and a double in 17 PAs. From May 20th onwards (19 PAs) he has a 236 wRC+ with a .375 ISO and walk rate above 10%. Maybe the increased consistent PT is helping him out, and he's been working on his swing with the coaching staff, leading to a positive feedback loop.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Your first sentence suggests simplicity, but the reality is very complex. Unless anyone in this chat has a degree or higher in human biology, it's doubtful anyone here can speak with any authority on the subject. Not that real education and information stops people from believing whatever they want these days anyways. But youre right. Internal/External plumbing features are only an indicator of biological sex. Some are born with neither. Some are born with both. Those in the latter two categories are very very very very few and far beween. When you're talking about choromosomes though, generally people born with internal plumbing are XX. People with external fixtures are generally XY. X and Y are generally referred to as the sex chromosomes. XY and XX cover like the vast vast vast majority of humans However, there are extremely small numbers of people that have XXY, XYY and even XXX There are smaller numbers still that have XXYY, XXXY and XXXX There are smaller numbers still that have XXXXY and XXXXX Whether or not those choromosomal abnormalities are ones that might cause comeone to be outwardly male or female, but "feel" like the other biological sex, ie transgenderism, homosexuality, bisexuality, asexuality...... who knows. There's multiple factors that go on in the process of fertilization of eggs and chromosomes being passed from father to mother all the way up to urine in the womb that impact a fetus's levels of estrogen and testosterone, which also may be factors. Science doesnt know yet. But they do know all of the above exist. Im just going to enjoy the shitshow until the mods scrub these posts.

The percentage of people born with sex chromosome abnormalities is not actually extremely small. It's something like 1 in 1000 births. That's not a small number of people.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Isn’t that how every business ends up going though? Always trying to push for growth and more profits Yeah true but you risk the possibility of losing the current market share that business already has. Pretty much in the US based on the popular votes of Presidential Elections - you have around 55% who lean Democrat and 45% who lean Republican. Those numbers could vary every election but for the most part are around those figures. So pretty much almost split down the middle. Now of the 45% who vote or identify as Republicans, how many of them would take offense to some of these companies is the question? I'm sure majority of that 45% don't really care but lets say 10-15% do, well those companies lose a lot of market share regardless if that's the case.

True, but the 1 in 1000 are the trisomies and also include having an extra chromosome that causes Down Syndrome and other things like that. Most chromosomal abnormalities that aren't related to sex chromosomes are actually fatal. Specifically relating to extra sex chromosomes, they really don't know exactly what kind of frequency there is for those tri, tetra and pentasomies.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 I’m fine with keeping the discussions strictly Baseball/Blue Jays related. But we live in a world where we are constantly walking on egg shells and it’s frustrating. It’s pouring over into sports and it’s going to pour into sports discussion. People use these words like inclusion, safe spaces, and acceptance. But I have never felt more foreign, uncomfortable, and out of place in this world as I do now. That could be me problem I don’t know. Well said.
