Governator Community Moderator Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Fun fact, Chapman has already earned 1 fWAR before we've played a home game. He also sports the league's highest BABIP at .586 but lets focus on the results, remember when Anthony Goose was fun for 2 months one season?
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Fun fact, Chapman has already earned 1 fWAR before we've played a home game. Vladdy right behind him at 0.8 where the 3 ahead of him (Duvall at 1, Robert at 0.9) play OF and all the ones he is tied with (Trout, Franco, Outman, Judge, Reynolds) play OF/SS. Mashing atm.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I think we sign Vlad and let both Bo/Chap walk when the time comes. If we left both of them walk that would be a pretty crippling blow to the franchise. They should probably trade Bo before he gets to Free Agency if the goal is not to sign him long term.

He's been a beauty, but when you look at the numbers, it's easy to see why. He's not whiffing on pitches in the strike zone like he has been the past few seasons and in fact is contacting them at a career-best rate. Highly unlikely for that to continue, but even if he's at 80-85% that's money in the bank.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Never doubted Chapman having a huge season given it's a contract year. The guy is going to set career highs and bests across the board and get paid.
Drevil0208 Verified Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I wonder what the chances are of the roof being open for the home opener tomorrow. Game time temperature is supposed to be 18 degrees and even at 10PM it's still 15. I think it would be first time ever for the roof to be open for a home opener?

It depends on whether they have been testing the roof or not. We went from Winter to Summer again. If they try Opening it today. It’s possible they could possibly open it tomorrow night.

The rooftop bars will have a much better view!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Would be awesome if they opened the roof. The Dome sucks when the roof is closed.

Yup Chappy is gone after this season. He's definitely getting 5 years close to $150M as a minimum IMO if he posts up a 5-6 WAR season. Most likely more given the weak 3B market.

Third Basemen Ehire Adrianza (34) Brian Anderson (31) Jeimer Candelario (30) Matt Chapman (31) Charlie Culberson (35) Josh Donaldson (38) – $16MM club option with an $8MM buyout* Eduardo Escobar (35) – $9MM club option with a $500K buyout Evan Longoria (38) Mike Moustakas (35) – $20MM club option with a $4MM buyout* Max Muncy (33) – $10MM club option Justin Turner (39) – $13.4MM player option with a $6.7MM buyout* Gio Urshela (32) Joey Wendle (34)

Perhaps we have an in house replacement.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 No. I don't. When did that happen? My favorite historical sss that’s accurate was Merryweather. When someone says we‘ll always have that NYY series
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Also, not sure there are many solid options on the trade market as well for 3B.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Bassitt 20M and Chapman walks lol. The amount of money this team has pissed away in their starting rotation is disgusting. This goes all the way back to the Roarks of the world but luckily he weren't trying to contend then so it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I'm okay with Bassitt, the Berrios contract is the one that really hurts because of the term and escalation at the back end. His decline is truly baffling and inexplicable. Looks like he's still got the stuff to be a good pitcher though, so we can only hope for a bounce back at some point, but damn. This is a team that still needs a front-line starter. Ideally Gausman and somebody else is 1-2, Manoah and (the previous version of) Berrios are 3-4 and Bassitt is your 5. That would be a true contending rotation. But we're missing that other front line guy and, for now, missing that version of Berrios.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 0 chance. They don’t open the dome til May. Same s*** every year. It's by protocol, nothing they can do.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Question the man. Fight the power. Open the dome!
