connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Not the start I was hoping we would have, but have gotten it together a little bit. Hopefully we can finish this series today on a high. Been going a ton of personal problems and health problems as to why been off the forum for awhile, but hopefully those are all behind me now and can watch the Jays do what we all know they can. Your mental health and physical doesn’t need to be in order to post here.. Spanky can tell you about that
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Because some people are homers and contrarian to a fault. I agree with you. You can't chalk up everything to bad luck. 18th percentile spin rate on the FB is awful, if they improved that to, say, the 70s, maybe his mistakes will be tougher to square up? High 70s? He’s a sinker baller lol, middling spin rate on the fast ball is not unexpected. Sandy Alcantara had 51st percentile fastball spin last season, he did okay with that.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2023 Author Posted April 9, 2023 Baseball had better names back in the day.

Well he obviously is getting shelled with the current FB, it would make sense to want to increase the spin rate exponentially so it's not a slaughterhouse. Small increases won't do s***. The slightest missed location and it's a beach ball for every single hitter. Nibbling on the corners shouldn't be what a pitcher who throws 94-96 needs to do to succeed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Relentless offense required yet again to overcome the pitching woes Yikes Won but it wasn't pretty
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Relentless offense required yet again to overcome the pitching woes Yikes Won but it wasn't pretty Kinda the same feeling of the road trip overall. 6-4 or 7-3 was about what you’d expect with the schedule they had. Angels series(2-1) and KC series(3-1) was exactly what should have happened, the only flip would have been winning the series against St. Louis to get to 7-3. No Jays fan should really be upset at the results of the road trip, but yeah…the path that got them there could use work.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I got slammed on here for suggesting he should have done that this offseason... What This doesn't seem true Why would you be slammed for suggesting any pitcher go to Driveline Link zee proof

Happy with the W L recod Legit worried about some of the pitching though won't overreact this early on
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 You got slammed because you were one step short of suggesting the team should lock their players up in cages during the offseason only letting them out to train. I still don't see the issue with that Jays hand Berrios a massive contract and almost immediately he becomes a pumpkin. I see no reason the employer can't strongly suggest that he spend some/most of the offseason working to fix what's wrong. Maybe they did and Berrios told them to piss off because he doesn't give a f*** [shrugs]

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I got slammed on here for suggesting he should have done that this offseason... It’s hard to keep track off all the internet debates I win but I remember this well. It started with Vlad (not Berrios) after he posted a video of him taking some swings in the DR. And you forgot to mention that your argument was soaked with racism about how Dominican players shouldn’t go home in the offseason bc all they do down in the DR is goof around on the “sandlot.”
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Anyone else think they sign Chap and Vlad long-term and let Bo go after his current contract is done in 3 yrs or is it pretty much a foregone conclusion we'll let Chap walk and take the comp pick (assuming he continues his current pace)? We got Barger and Orelvis but losing what Chap provides defensively (and perhaps resurgence offensively) is going to succccccccccccccccccccck.

I think a lot of it depends on how Barger does this year. We've got some pretty good minor league depth at that position.

Chapman is a Boras guy so he’s 100% going to free agency Would be nice to not have 60M tied up in this rotation 3-5 and give some of that to Chappy
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Chapman is a Boras guy so he’s 100% going to free agency Unfortunate, so it'll probably be a Xander-esque contract. Maybe Shapiro has some magic left with Rogers and squeeze out more money.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Well Ryu and 20M are off the books after this year Also Belt and 9.6M KK 9 M, Merrifield 6.7 M are also out. We'd have holes at 3B, CF and DH. Yankees could probably dish out the money for Chapman since JD is coming off books, and that will flat out suck seeing him in pinstripes.

Though he's about to turn 33.

Best scenario is Barger rakes AAA this year and is able to handle 3B, we move Varsho to CF and pickup a solid corner OF bat on a short-term deal. Kirk taking 50% of the DH starts should be adequate.

Ya the Yanks having a glaring need there you know they’re gonna be in on him

Man would it ever suck to have to watch him in pinstripes...barf. Can we just get rid of all the "B" pitchers? Berrios, Bassitt, Bass and Trevor Bichards?

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I think we sign Vlad and let both Bo/Chap walk when the time comes. That hurts but the big question is what they cost - Are they Austin Riley ish deals or some of the other bizarre stuff we are seeing?
