Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 I watched one or two of his outings pitches looked the same he got nuked in the WBC what changes are they saying he made? Can't believe the Jays let him pitch in the WBC. My dude you just had the highest ERA in baseball. Get in the spring training lab and get your s*** sorted out.

Yeah we should build a jail cell down in Dunedin where we can keep guys like him in the offseason.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Does Berrios look good today or is the O's B lineup just going easy on him?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Yeah we should build a jail cell down in Dunedin where we can keep guys like him in the offseason. Add Vlad and Kirk to that list so they can be put on rations or a proper diet.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Does Berrios look good today or is the O's B lineup just going easy on him? I missed the eye test, but here's the raw data
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 I missed the eye test, but here's the raw data that velocity is horrendous for him
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 that velocity is horrendous for him Same with Manoah so far. I think they are holding back with the pitch clock. Kind of getting use to the timing before letting it go when the season starts
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 that velocity is horrendous for him Career average: 93.5 Today: 92.7 I'm not sure if I'd call that horrendous.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 he normally begins the year averaging 94 or 95 mph has basically not had a start averaging under 93 in the last three seasons. Maybe that one random dot last year. if his in-season trends repeat, then 93 in April will end up as 92 in the fall. Not great.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 I missed the eye test, but here's the raw data That's crazy variance on the spin rate for his sinker...
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Sure hope they didn't sign a dud with Berrios. Really need a bounce back season from him. That's a lot of money for just barely above replacement level starting pitching.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Holy, relax guys, he looked fine to me.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Holy, relax guys, he looked fine to me. Haha. I'm completely relaxed TYVM Just hoping Berrios bounces back. The rotation could be magnificent, a lot of fun to watch and not a drag on the BP.

That's a lot of money for just barely above replacement level starting pitching. Its hard. Dude was one of the most consistent sub-4 ERA/200 inning guys in the majors, and the minute we ink him he turns into a pumpkin. Just need him to hover around 4 ERA for the contract to be worth it though, there’s hope
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 that velocity is horrendous for him Pitchers, especially starters often have lower velocity in Spring training. They are building up arm strength, usually working on mechanics and there's zero adrenaline.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 I missed the eye test, but here's the raw data I saw most of the game, his location seemed a bit better. Yes he was facing a horrible lineup and it had some impact. In the first inning his pitches seemed to suggest a walk but the hitter gave him a strikeout. He looked better in the 2nd-5th.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Looks like the Regular Lineup is going to be playing more exclusively good. I think every team should play their starters the last 2 weeks of Spring to make sure everyones good to go. Atleast get them 3 at-bats anyway.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Gausman okay with this? lol Looks like he would get the home opener too April 11th
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 MLB The Show simulated the season as they do every year. Here's how it went. Blue jays ended the season with 108 wins, best in baseball - lose to the Astros in the ALCS Angels made the playoffs as a wildcard but lost in the ALDS Freeman and Justin Turner won the batting titles Trea Turner and Bubba Thompson led their respective leagues in stolen bases (though they didnt provide the #) Cy Youngs were Musgrove and DeGrom, MVPs were Alonso and Yordan Alvarez. Braves beat the Astros in the World Series.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Yeah not really sure why Manoah gets first start over Gausman… maybe they’re doing this for the fans? Perception across the fandom (and even MLB network guys) is that Manoah is our best starter. Whatev, end of the day it doesn’t really matter. Maybe Gausman needs an extra day or two to deal with a nail issue or something.

I will predict he gives 0 shits about it.
