Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Recency bias galore right now for the Texas Rangers. Especially after that horrific Astros series. They aren't this bad, it's possible that they can't get this thing back on track, it's also possible that they come into Rogers center next week and smoke us and put in a strong finish to make the playoffs. Like you said, Max and Chapman might be playoff heroes yet. I tend to agree with this - and I don't think Max is busted. 1 really bad start v. Astros and another rough one v. Brewers....but in his last start before the Astros game, he threw 6 shutout innings, giving up 1 hit v. the Twins. That said, long term, I'm not so sure about them unless they keep spending like mad men.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Why does that f***ing matter None of us run the Texas Rangers They owned the motherf***ing player and had no idea what they had Well, I don’t disagree but it’s strayed from the overall point that I can respect that they took a hopeless perennial .500 team and made it a great season to follow. It was a bad move, but they clearly had soured on the guy. You have to wonder if he would’ve turned it around in Texas. Really hard to understand how the switch got flipped like that
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 But Texas didn't get 0 in return. Chapman's been worth 0.5 WAR in like 22 innings and his pitching almost exactly how you'd expect him to - he's just gotten bitten by the long ball a bit (after not giving up any with the Royals - which wasn't sustainable). This comparison is awful. A little too quick, chief. Read again. “They” clearly relates to the Jays. The point was maybe Frasso isn’t Ragans, but at least KC got something of value and Jays got an egg

The point was maybe Frasso isn’t Ragans, but at least KC got something of value and Jays got an egg You literally said the Rangers "whiffed" and then said "Jays did with Frasso to lessee extent but they also got 0 in return". "They also got 0 in return" suggests both teams got 0. English is tough eh? Must be all that 8+" sausage your taking in Poland.

Whomp whomp
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 They are on the precipice of disaster. Their lineup is mostly on the wrong side of the aging curve. Semien 33, Garcia 30, Seager 29, Lowe 28, Garver 32, Heim 28, Grossman 34... Eovaldi is busted. Scherzer looks busted. Yeah they could pull off a miracle this year but they are asking Jordan Montgomery, Jon Gray, and Andrew Heaney to carry them on the pitching side. BIG GULP. Things get ugly if they don't have a big run this year or next. The window does appear small, Max and Eovaldi are key. They need at least one of them this year, I'm not sure they're busted yet but if they are that's obviously trouble. DeGrom ever giving them anything worthwhile is obviously not very likely at this point. They can always just throw even more money at pitching during this window. There's no question they went for an expensive short-term solution, there's still a chance it will work granted it's slimmer than it was a month ago. But it's also not over yet. If the stars align just right and they get a world series championship out of it it will all be worth it.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Seattle has Castillo going tonight. Their pitching has been so strong. They lost Robbie Ray to the IL to start the season and traded Sewald at the deadline, hardly skipping a beat.

Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 (edited) that's great to hear about Adolis Garcia being on the DL, I don't hate the man, but I don't feel bad for him being hurt, being a millionaire. Honestly I would have him out a whole season for 1 extra ball called for the blue jays. He can get well in the offseason and return 90% next season. As long as they don't put an asterisk on the 4 game sweep next week. A new joke I wrote this week: why was pitcher scared of 7 hitter? Because 7 8 9. Which baseball player loved fireplaces? Mickey Mantle. Edited September 8, 2023 by Nursehoneybadger

I'm sorry you're going to get paid tens of millions to rehab your non life threatening boo boo but my team's about to win a championship so YEAH!

But thats why the raptors got the asterisk.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 https://nypost.com/2023/09/07/nationals-cancel-stephen-strasburgs-retirement-ceremony/ Strasburg had a retirement ceremony scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, but it was canceled by the Nationals, The Athletic’s Britt Ghiroli reported. “It was the Nationals who approached Strasburg about retiring and paying him the full amount of his contract, sources briefed on the matter say. The team wants to change the terms,” Ghiroli tweeted. Yikes - this sounds messy
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Clayton Thomson too. But thats why the raptors got the asterisk. Naw, even when he played the Raptors proved they could beat them. KD made them untouchable, without KD, the teams were very even but the Raptors were ever so slightly better. Just checked the official NBA records and guess what? No asterisk to be found anywhere 🙂 KD should have the asterisks for being a bitch and free riding to a couple of easy rings.

The Raptors that year beat the Gianiss Bucks who were the best regular season team in Basketball. 2. The Raptors were a better team by May of 2019 then we knew. Hypothetically say you could put together Leonard, Siakam, Fred Van Vleet, Lawrie, Gassol, Norm Powell, Ibanka, and Danny Green all towards their primes? How good of a team is that? From the perspective of May 2019 we didn't know exactly how good VanVleet, Siakam and Powell were, so the team seemed light compared to Golden State, but in retrospect that was a great collection of talent.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 TEXAS LOSES TO THE A'S! What a big series it will be against them. Jesus. Can my heart take it?!

Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 George Kirby of the Seattle team says in his interview after giving up a 2 run tying hit over the back wall at 102 pitches, "I wish I wasn't out there for the 7th to be honest, I was at 90 pitches already". Don't really believe him here. Hes going to cost himself the confidence of their manager after that comment. Or just stand up for yourself if you don't think you can throw 100 pitches.
