hanton Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Interesting the deal is contingent on Glasnow signing an extension
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Tyler Mahle signs with the Rangers for 2/22mill with 5 million in incentives. Nice get by the Rangers, super cheap. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/rangers-sign-tyler-mahle-to-two-year-deal.html Didn’t realize he was an FA damn
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Good deal for both of them, Dodgers are going hard in the paint, we kind of knew this was going to happen this year when they stayed out on everyone last season and got under the tax threshold. Yamamoto's next.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Must be nice being a Dodgers fan
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Looks like it's done They waited until after the press conference to make it official so no conflict and to put their actions where their mouth was to Ohtani.. They still need another solid SP.. Def still in on Yamamato.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Deluca is going to be annoyingly good for TB
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Tampa saved 15.2 million 2. Can spend that money in other ways. Plus Margots salary, real nice deal for Tampa
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Must be nice being a Dodgers fan No kidding. They "take a step back" and still win 100 games, then the next off season add a 3rd MVP to their line up and a pitcher good enough to be an ace (when healthy). Probably not done either. I bet Yamamoto signs with them too.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 I think he's a yank my dude... heard they offered Yamma 310ish and the Mets 320 but he prefers the yanks
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 The Dodgers are what the Yankees used to be man. It's crazy the level of winning those f***ers have achieved for so long. I'm not even sure if they've had back to back below .500 years in like 30 years.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 The Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees rivalry goes way way back.

They've won 100+ games in 6/7 years and haven't won less than 91 games in the last 11 seasons, 11 straight playoff years too. Only 1 WS though.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 And yet… only 1 world series title in a shortened season. Ya thats crazy... reminds me of the Glavine/Maddux/Avery/Smoltz Braves if they played like 30 years in that regard lol.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 And yet… only 1 world series title in a shortened season. It's almost like the playoffs are a crapshoot...
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 We need a Pleadian running the Jays lol
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 And yet… only 1 world series title in a shortened season. Did you guys listen to the Ohtani press conference? Ohtani said a key reason he picked the Dodgers is because even though they have been in the playoffs the last 10 years and won one WS, they think of that as a failure. That is the mindset and commitment that attracted Ohtani. Our 3 playoffs appearances via the WC and 2 and out is not in the same universe. Some on here have said that it is a good job, we made in the playoffs three of the last four years. For the Dodgers, that is still failure.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Could the Dodgers land more likeable superstars? Hard to cheer against Betts, Freeman and Ohtani. They will all be players we're still talking about, telling our grandkids in 30-40 years.

Teams that get eliminated will ALWAYS tell the fans/press that this season was a failure and they need to work hard to get better. You really think a major factor in Ohtani's decision was the scripted BS they tell the media and fans? You can complain how fans on this board talk....but the Jays FO didn't declare 2023 to be a massive success because they made the playoffs. They said they need to learn and do better (same as the Dodgers and every other f***ing team not named the Rangers).

That is what was told to Ohtani in a closed door meeting and Ohtani was pretty tight lipped about how he made his decision. Of all the factors that went into making his decision, he chose to highlight that point. The Dodgers have a WS ring in that period, WS appearances, Division champs etc and they still call that a failure... Not the same as Ross and Mark saying we need to do better.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 I hope the Dodgers win 87 games. f*** em

Yep They are working from a different baseline, that creates a certain mindset, across the entire organization (from rookie ball up...); essentially a high performance team

You have no idea what Mark and Ross told Ohtani in a closed door meeting. This is also lip service from Ohtani. He isn't going to come on and say "I always wanted to play for the Dodgers for obvious reasons - I just needed to make them sweat until they gave me all the money"

He isn't going to come on and say "I always wanted to play for the Dodgers for obvious reasons - I just needed to make them sweat until they gave me all the money" Ohtani could have said a million reasons he wanted to play for the Dodgers... It is obvious to most of us who can see the forest through the trees that the Dodgers commitment to winning, track record, strong minor league system, made a huge difference to Ohtani. I really think you need to listen to the press conference and have some context before you criticize it as some canned PR response..
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Nobody in their right mind would pick Toronto over LA for anything unless you were significantly overpaid to do so

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 Now I’ve seen everything, Tampa giving cash to the Dodgers in a trade. Friedman is a bigger GM ninja than AA.
