Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) Holy s***. Wander Franco has a lawsuit out on a 17 year old female as well. Dated back as July 17th... so the Rays must've known about this, right? Edited August 15, 2023 by Spanky99
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) I don't know enough about the justice system in the DR. None of this looks good at all and seems pretty perilous for Franco, both legally as well as what it means for him getting back on the field. But that said, couldn't a review by the Attorney General also mean that he's quickly cleared of all wrongdoing? It definitely looks like he's a disgusting scumbag but I don't know if the DR legal system will cover for a rich ballplayer or not. Edited August 15, 2023 by Terminator

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 So there is no other evidence, you just assume there is, smh Jim??? Response???

That’s why there’s… an investigation
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Jim??? Response??? A complaint is not evidence. In the Bauer issue, two other woman came forward with allegations. Ultimately he was not charged. Time will tell in this one.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I have no idea if he’s guilty or not. But based on precedent the league and Tampa have no choice Equal justice for all. You should be happy about that. No idea eh? Felipe Vazquez, Trevor Bauer, Roberto Osuna See ya Wander

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Rays are in big trouble I think decent chance they don't make the post season though for that to happen the Jays and Mariners both have to play well. Only reason they still have a chance is the ridiculous win buffer they put up in April/May. They're not a top 6 team in the AL right now with the players available to them. They could still limp in but it won't be pretty. The Rays are 15-21 since July 1st Sample size getting bigger, nice to see them regress from the almost .700 BS ball club they were for the first few months.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Mariners, Angels, Astros and Yankees all losing last night on a Jays off day was really awesome.

Time will tell in this one. Its definitely extra evidence. Just because you don’t think its “good evidence”, doesn’t mean its invalid. Moving the goalposts…. Wander is innocent unless there’s actual video evidence to you.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 No idea eh? Yes. Based on precedent he is done. See ya Wander.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I don't like this from a baseball fan standpoint. But I'm happy that the Rays take a substantial hit. Franco will be able to join Bauer over in Japan and have a very good career.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Royals were up 5-0 on the Mariners with a dominant outing from Singer. They try to bring him out in the 8th inning at ~100 pitches and he promptly gives up a double and hits a batter. Some reliever then comes in and gives up 4 runs to make it a 1 run game. Moral of the story, if your starter is cruising, he's good to pitch the whole game! Is this a sarcastic reference to people complaining about John Scheneider pulling starters early? You know he pulls Starters at 84 pitches. I wish the Blue Jays starters got to throw 100 pitches and have a chance to come back out. Seems like an absolute pipe dream. Would be a lot less complaining if we could just get these Starters there full workload. I don’t know why he’s so conservative with Gausman when he’s just going to pull him early from a playoff game anyway. Oh and that’s a sarcastic reference to last year.

Bullpens are simply too good to ride your starter too much these days. The game has changed dramatically. That said, Jays starters have thrown the 6th most innings in baseball, so Schneider does ride them a ton. I don't get why fans complain about his use of the starters.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 You have evidence otherwise? Find and show the receipts then (you would be wasting your time, there are none). I have never rushed to judgement on these things. As you posted yesterday, due process. This is also an interesting intersection of law and cultural norms in two countries, USA and DR. A tricky navigation for MLB. The age of consent in Germany and a number of other European countries is 14. Not relevant to the matter, but just shows the problem for MLB in applying its policies to events that happen outside the USA/Canada. https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/9726-Trevor-Bauer-discussion-thread?p=1522555&viewfull=1#post1522555

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 yes. yes they are. They only just changed their age of consent up to 16 from 13 this Summer from all the flak they were receiving on it.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Can the Rays get out of Wander’s extension? Would have to think there’s a way if the guy turns out to be a child predator

"There has been a lot of progress," a person with knowledge of the matter told @DiarioLibre. "The case is not as simple as is being rumored in some media. Oh ok, maybe it was a misunderstanding and it'll turn out okay in the end after all... There are many people involved and more minors involved. Yikes....
