Cohen is getting anxious

Why is he speaking anyway? Shouldn't this be the CEO/GM? This would be like they dug Ted Rogers up and made him do a press conference for the Jays.

I know I love bringing up former top prospect Jo Adell… but seriously, what a jerk job they give that guy… called him up for 1 game where he goes 1-3 with a HR. Send him back down, call him up for 1 day as a roster replacement where he doesn’t play and send him back down… like I’m not sure you treat Biggio like that. Pretty brutal

3-3 2HR, 1BB and 6.1 IP 10k and just 1 ER.

Ohtani is currently tracking for like a 12 WAR season. Completely bonkers.

They'd never do it, but I'd love to see what his numbers would be if he played a passable LF for like 4 out of every 6 games.

Yeah, Joe Madden was talking to Brian Kenny and said he can do it easily because of his athleticism, but the brass won't allow it.

At the very least, if he ends up having some catastrophic arm injury where he can’t pitch effectively any longer, he can probably still transition into an elite OF

For sure.

Yeah for sure he would still be productive, but not worth $500-600M then.

Genuinely hoping the Angels get one of the WC spots (or overtake the Rangers in the West). This will be the last season Ohtani and Trout will be on the same team. At least end it with a playoff appearance.

Same - although it might be at the expense of the Jays making the playoffs.

On the field, no. But in jersey sales, tickets sales, other ancillary revenue? Maybe.

Yeah ideally both the Jays and Angels make it in, but it might be one or the other (or neither) depending on how the Yankees/Astros/Rangers finish.

Yeah he would probably be awesome in RF or maybe even CF.

I would think so

Luis Arraez now on pace for 6 WAR and in the top 10 in NL, but everyone is so bunched behind Acuna he is close to top 3.

If he hits .400 I still think he will end up close to 7 WAR and top 3, and probably wins the MVP, now unlikely he somehow hits .400 with 4 WAR. Baserunning a bit better, power a bit better in the last month.

Not saying Arraez will win the MVP, most likely scenario is he hits .360 with 5.5 WAR or something.

Saying IF he hits .400 he wins MVP, because to hit .400 he will have to be hitting the ball hard (for him), taking close pitches (thus a higher walk rate), and on top of his game in other ways. The sharpness needed to hit .400 will probably show up in his baserunning and defense. Not that he'll be a gold glover, just unlikely he is sharp enough to hit .400 but not sharp enough to be on top of his baserunning and defense and line drive power game.

Still over 3 months left of the season.

If there is a team that I think regresses or slips, would be the Yankees especially if Judge is gone until August. Their lineup isn't that scary without him and it's not like the Yankees have elite pitching after Cole. They're getting Rodon back but who knows which version they get of him and if he's 100%. If they hang around until Judge gets back, then they should be fine. Though hopefully they can lose some ground in the WC standings.

I would love to see the Angels make it in for entertainment purposes. They could also get stuck in a rut and lose 7 of 10 or 8 of 10 and fall out of it. Hopefully they could add another top SP at the deadline or big piece.

Rangers likely will have to fight hard to hang onto the division. Angels/Astros could challenge them possibly.

If Marlins make the Postseason and if Arraez hits close to .400, he'll definitely get votes and be top 3. If he hits .400 then damn I think you'll have a lot of voters choose him.

Right now, Acuna and Carroll are the two front runners. It's close, but I give the slight edge to Acuna right now if the season ended today.

Acuna is on pace to hit like .330 with 40 hrs, 140 runs and 70 sbs and almost 9 WAR. You'd have to be a moron to choose .400 with 6 hrs, 70 runs and 6 WAR over Acuna. Seems highly doubtful either player reaches those final numbers though. Carrol is a f***ing beast though. What an exciting player.

NL East is interesting for sure

Mets and their 330M payroll are now firmly entrenched in 4th place and have the 4th worst record in the NL

It's actually hard to see them making the post season at all

It's not going to be just double their first halfs. If Arraez hits .400 for another half it will likely be a better .400, because he'll hit for a bit more power, more walks as the pitchers pitch around him more, if he's sharp enough to hit .400 again better baserunning and defense.

And as you say "it seems highly doubtful either player reaches those final numbers."... so if Arraez somehow keeps it up, it is still unlikely that Acuna does.

So IF Arraez hits .400 he probably ends up losing the WAR MVP 8-7 or something, and is close enough to win the MVP.

hitting .400 without the # of walks it takes to limit your ABs vs PAs... would be extremely difficult. Unless Arraez has perfected the skill of knowing exactly where every batted ball is going, there's going to be some stretches where he just hits it right at the defense for an extended enoughperiod that .400 becomes unattainable. Need those walks to make his hits count more towards the ol' avridge.

To the argument about whether he could win MVP with a .400 average and like 10 HRs with limited other nuumbers ... I dont see it. I definitely see him getting votes.. but it would be like voting Judge for MVP with 62 HRs if he hit .180 instead of .300, played average D, didnt walk a lot and ran the bases badly. The argument there would be ... well yeah he hit a bunch of homers, but what exactly did he do when he wasn't hitting HRs? Not a whole lot.

Same argument should be applied to a guy who hits .400 based on a bunch of slappy singles and relatively few extra base hits, walks etc. What are you doing when you're not hitting singles? Hows the baserunning and defense? Not good? Then.. sorry, no MVP. Cool to hit .400 though

This conversation will be funny when Arraez finishes at like .330.

Yeah he's not getting anywhere near .400 IMO.

Would be pretty surprised if he ends above .370.
