His current ERA is 2.28 though. I don't expect it to stay there and it probably needs to if he's going to be a Cy Young contender.

I don’t expect any starter to maintain a 2.28 ERA

I have a random question since there's no Jays game today. Is anyone a big fan of baseball history? I was thinking about getting Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty. Does anyone have any books they'd recommend?

I haven't read it but I have heard it is good and does a good job of dissuading the reader from the false notion that Ty Cobb was a racist.

Was this a case of a horrible man who hated all people equally or a completely unearned reputation? I haven't read this book either and wonder what type of conclusion it came to.

This article explains it pretty well:

https://nypost.com/2015/05/31/how-ty-cobb-was-framed-as-a-racist/

TL;DR: He was a hothead who fought a lot of people, including blacks (fighting was a lot more common back then) and was from the South so he was labeled a racist. But he wasn't even really known as a racist until his biographer sensationalized everything to sell more books. Cobb was going to sue him but died before he could do so.

It really irritates me when I see people constantly posting about that. That Al Stump guy did a lot of damage to his reputation. The funny thing is Cap Anson was a huge driving force behind segregating baseball, but Ty Cobb is always the go to person for baseball villain.

BREAKING: #Rays Cash says Franco not in lineup tonight and at least Friday stemming from way he handles his frustrations and not being a better teammate. Cash also stressed Franco “is a good kid” and they will work with him to improve.

Damn, sitting a star for 2+ days is pretty serious. I wonder what he did.

Cap Anson was just an absolute f***ing POS in terms of advancing the sport (and civil rights) and expanding the league. Ty Cobb was a no doubt a prick and a dirty player, but to everyone.

Can’t be worse than the Prince Fielder/Avisail Garcia situation

I just wish the Blue Jays can hold star players as accountable.

Name the Blue Jays player that handles his frustrations poorly and is a bad teammate.

Exactly this, it sounds like the Franco situation goes a lot deeper than somebody watching a ball off the bat a little too long or making some sort of mistake in the field.

Could’ve refused to use proper pronouns. Think TB had some issues with this last year

I don’t understand why he’s airing this. Media isn’t owed an explanation.

Yeah, but it's as general as it can be. if it was related to throwing a bat after a strikeout or not running out a grounder or something like that you'd think it would have been done much closer to the actual event. It's probably something else but obviously when a star like him is being held out, he has to say something when the reporters ask. General comments are all anyone is ever going to get. Local beat reporters wouldn't air any real dirty laundry

I see a 3rd Naylor might get drafted in the 1st round. How much goes to pure genetics and how much is the dad probably makes them wake up at 5 am to hit baseballs and for 3 hours after school if they don’t have a practice. Idk

Carlos Rodon making his second rehab start. Could be back early July if everything goes right.

I own that dude in a couple leagues, I keep waiting for the inevitable setback, so far so good. :P

Term has already answered you adequately, it's a great read and shows Ty Cobb in a far different light.

Ouch, he's young, so he should learn I'd expect.
