The Jays hiring Buck Martinez to manage the team would be the most incredible thing ever. Talk about bringing the entertainment back to the Rogers Centre.

I never understood the Mattingly hire to begin with. The guy came from a losing culture in Miami, and ever since he was brought in here the lineup has done nothing but regress/under perform.

That’s an interesting view.

He literally just put on a bunt yesterday, which the analytics don't support. He tried "something different" to see if he could spark the offense and go against what the probabilities suggest.

and MikeM shits all over him for doing it.

A LOT of people want the manager to use his (magical) feel and don't just follow the probabilities. Yet he goes slightly off script early in a game on May 3rd and is also s*** on. Let that stupidity sink in for a second...

He's the best bro

I'm just point out that people have been furious that he isn't going with his gut feeling more and is just a puppet that does what Atkins and the computer tells him to. When he actually does try to shake things up and go against the probabilities, he also gets s*** on. I thought you s***ing on him was a little unnecessary as it was in the 3rd inning of a game in early May in a season that out offense has been horrible.

Personally, I feel there is room to use both the analytics and the eye test, but you need to leans towards the probabilities. Sounds like you're in the same camp. I think there are lots of fans on the other end of the spectrum.

He said he bunted to "break up the monotony". Like the monotony of hits we had against a dog s*** pitcher lol? His reasoning is not even gut feeling. Who knows what it is.

Tonight Schneider sits Varsho due to the lefty and proceeds to pencil in Keirmaier. Springer has been a black hole and yet there he is batting leadoff. Like does he want to win games or what?

The GM needs to go before the manager.

....but if you can't pencil in a lineup properly:confused:

a complete adjustment is needed. Whoever the backoffice moron is with these decisions has to go otherwise it's a waste of time.

Firing the manager is putting Band-Aid on gushing carotid.

I think it would be a firing for the sake of a firing, but....if they're going to do that it should be the hitting coach first.

I don't think JS is the problem here.

Jays hitting - 20th

Jays pitching - 30th

Jays fielding - 1st

IMO the pitching's been the biggest disappointment. From 5th last year to dead last

I would agree

If I was any good at editing video I would make one of Chris Bassitt saying "I am just proud to be part of a pitching staff that doesn't chase velocity" followed by all of the Jays 2024 shitbag declining arms giving up tanks on 92 mph poo

A league average player is batting only .239/.312/.383 this year

Not to say our offense is great, but it's kind of deceptive with pitching getting better each year

It's tricky to figure out why our pitching is getting rocked. I don't think it's velocity, for most pitch types we are average or above. Giving up a really high O-contact rate relative to other teams, and the most hard hit balls by a mile too. It's a weird combination of hitting bad pitches hard. There might be some truth to the Jays tipping pitches or teams picking up on patterns. Hard to know without some location data

Yeah, you’d have to think the manager is the safest guy in the building. I think there would be strong backlash, if not from fans, from the baseball media, if they fired the manager. The optics would be the GM and Pres were looking for a fall guy again for their own failures. I feel they’d essentially seal their own fate going that way.

Schneider is visible every game so he'll get talked about more frequently obviously. Shatkins typically only come out when there's a construction project to talk about lol.

the worst thing that could happen for shatkins is the leafs losing in the first round.

After the end of season presser by the leafs brass, all media would be centered on them

It's also due to cold weather, numbers generally get much better as it warms up, but is way down this season across the board.

The end is nigh. JS has penciled in Biggio to start again today. Silver lining: no Springer or Turner.

If his job is on the line, he sure doesn't show it in his lineup card.

That comment didn't age well. Biggio earned another start for today!

Today I actually felt sorry for John Schneider. After the last out he didn't move from his spot and stared out into the field. The players looked like they are checking out one by one. Kind of surprising because my general impression (based on nothing tangible) is that they like JS. Atkins my have to pull the trigger and have only six lives left of his nine. Too bad because these lemons ain't making lemonade any time soon.

Who gets canned first Brandon Hyde or John Schneider?

I think Hyde goes first because Atkins has no more cards to play.

Atkins has been with the Blue Jays for a decade. Let that sink in.

Yeah

You can't fire Schneider without also firing Atkins

You just can't
