Dusty Baker does pretty well for the Astros and he's hardly a good in-game strategist

He was horrible in the playoffs prior to the Astros... Like Spanky said, he is a puppet in Houston and doesn't step on his dick.

Just bring back Gibby.

He's the perfect blend of a player's manager but he's not a pushover either.

He knows enough about analytics but not too much to where he completely disregards the hot hand theory, i.e. pitching Richards who is struggling in a tight game last night.

Lol mention a manager and say he's not complete ass and the armchair BJMB managers will send you a half dozen posts within 30 seconds saying you're wrong

I'm not a Dusty Baker fan in the slightest. I'm just saying for everyone dumping on Gibbons for using LaTroy Hawkins one time there are worse managers out there who are doing fine.

Slow down cowboy, I'm on your side. ;)

Managers these days need to show more emotion and fight for their team, pump the bench up at the right time.

Guys like Sparky, Piniella, Gibby, Cox, etc... are legends at that craft.

Gibby put on a dumb ass sac bunt with 2 on GM 5 vs Texas. Bunted Right to third. They had wheel play on. Andrus dropped easy out on force at third throw from Beltre. Pure luck for us. Bad call. Would have changed whole outcome. Anyway the over use of Ezekiel. You could go on. But just time to move on IMO.

Gibbons is out there in the playoffs playing 4D chess and you're playing checkers from your recliner pal.

Gibbons knew the Rangers were going with the wheel play (because his "gut" told him) and he also knew that Elvis Andrus was on full tilt after his previous errors (also Gibby took one look at Andrus and could "see it in his eyes").

So he brilliantly called for the bunt down the third base line to force Andrus into making a play. And guess what? It worked brilliantly.

Then you have the balls to come on to BJMB aka the Gibby Fan Club and criticize the guy for a play that worked? Wow

Seriously though, I know JS head got ripe as a tomato last night at the ump, but Gibby would've been trying to fit his shoe up the umps ass by the 4th inning.

Damn... I miss Gibby.

Yeah if there ever was a time for a performative ejection, last night was the time.

I didn't even watch the game but checked in one gameday a few times

The balls/strikes seemed f***ing horrendous

Like, blue is out there squeezing a Cy Young candidate on September 14th. What a joke.

It was worse than that. Absolute joke

So true. Baseball is different than other sports in that you can't just get hyped up and go out there and crack skulls or try harder like in football or basketball. But you do need to have a competitive mindset to keep your brain sharp and John Schneider isn't exactly inspiring his troops into battle.

He was atrocious, seemed Jays were getting burned more but that could be my bias. He robbed KG 3 k's in a 2 inning span it felt. And cost us runs.

You know what I mean right, pick your spots and what's going on around you, push these f***ers, show em you have their back, lacklustre or not. That little crazy f***er did it in Baltimore years back, name escapes me for some reason. *Earl Weaver, lol

Yup. Romano was pretty useful in the series too. Just great management all around

Punchy tweet but Toronto lost most of those games like, immediately and thoroughly.

I dunno. This is not the thing that bugs me about the series, lmao.

When you are getting your ass kicked it can be hard to find the time to use your top relievers. Instead of using Richards would have been an easy spot. But otherwise he should have employed earlier hooks on guys.

EDIT: Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

Its still an issue. Especially in the 4th game there… like what exactly are we “saving” the better arms for? This is it, this is the season.

Just 0 sense of urgency the entire series

Not at all.

I guess

Game 1 it is 5-3 top 7th. Genesis Cabrera gives up 4 runs, blows the game.

Game 2 it is 3-0 top 7th. Yimi Garcia gives up 2 runs, game over.

Game 4 it is 4-2 top 8th. Trevor Richards gives up 5 runs, game over.

It's not exactly "using Ubaldo Jimenez over prime Zack Britton in extra innings in the playoffs" but the same sort of logic, on a much much tinier scale, three times over.

It starts with game 1 too though. Left Bassit in way longer than they should’ve when it was clear he was struggling, presumably because they wanted to save the pen for the rest of the series. But then they don’t even end up using Romano a single time, and Hicks gets 1 appearance in a blowout.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me with this being the pivotal series of the season.

Again, like I said there seemed to be no sense of urgency in this series.

LOL. A quality comeback. Well done. You are still the Sheriffinator in my books.

Cito's a f***in' Dingleberry, lol. I feel the Birds should've won 100+ games from 91 to 93, lol. Analytics win 100+ with those teams. :P

I have to admit back in the day I didn’t see it as much. But in retrospect now if you look at Oleruds numbers vs Carter it’s shocking we still won back to back with Cito at the helm. Lol.

Trust me I get it but, they had the talent, Insane.

For all the hate JS gets, his decision to pinch hit Biggio for Chapman, single handedly saved the game for the Jays today. Score a win for Schneider today. He made all the right moves. Chapman looked pissed too, but these are the tough decisions that good managers make, even if it pisses off a veteran player.
