jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Honestly makes sense for the O's, assuming the baby arms have stuff Lopez is vastly overrated and possibly not an elite reliever. Bautista likely steps into the closers role now. O's still have a solid BP even after trading Lopez.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Something's brewing! Padre news.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So despite the fact that the Orioles are above .500 and very much in the Wild Card mix they are still selling. Dare I say smart? They probably are still 2 years away and the guys they are trading weren’t likely to be part of that wave anyway. They are going to be very scary in a few years.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Lopez certainly could have been apart of their future Yes, but betting on a reliever being good in future years is high risk.

Its a miracle that they’re anywhere near a playoff spot right now. Definitely not sustainable… fangraphs has them at a 2.5% chance to make that playoffs lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Lopez certainly could have been apart of their future Nah relievers are volatile. He would have been a pending free agent by the time they were competitive. And who knows how good he actually is. He’s not an elite K guy. There’s only a handful of relievers across the league I would consider investing multiple years and big money commitments. And even guys like Josh Hader can completely fall apart.

They've sucked for so, so long and this invalidates any future success.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Me being a dick? Geez, you need to chill out man. I'm not the only one spewing jokes on here, but sure blame me. Seriously lighten up man! You don't need to point out that Tapia was hot for the last month. It doesn't mean anything in the long term. If you think he'll keep up that level of play, you're dreaming. The guy even got a inside the park home run gifted to him. Talk about luck. Glad he's climbed back up to a 0 WAR though and no longer is a negative player! Tapia has a 124 wRC+ since May 7th (.313/.339/.464). This isn't a 1 month hot streak. The defensive metrics hate Tapia, which is why his WAR is still at 0. The jury is generally still out on defensive metrics, so take it for what it's worth. Point being that Tapia's been a pretty decent 4th OFer.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Remember when Padres were close to landing Max Scherzer from Washington Nationals but the deal was not yet finalized?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I swear Padres make 3x the amount of trades of any other team.
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Good for San Diego honestly. They’re going to empty the farm but the opportunity to add a once in a lifetime bat strengthens their window significantly. Also of all the teams he could have landed, San Diego is the least offensive.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Alright this is going to be a banger
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 What do the Padres give up? Abrams, Hassell III, James Wood, Susana is massive yet doesn't seem to be enough Doubt that Nats want Gore and his elbow inflammation
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 With just under seven hours until the deadline, the Royals could be an important factor. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the markets for outfielder Michael A. Taylor, as well as relievers Josh Staumont and Scott Barlow are “heating up.” Jays?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 They are saying done deal now, Bell going too!
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 The Padres are an enigma. If they do indeed land Soto with the intention of extending him long term how do they justify it financially? Between Tatis, Machado and Soto that is a huge expenditure. Each team gets on average $66 million from the tv/broadcast rights. The rest of the revenue they generate on their own. Even with rich owners it doesn’t seem financially feasible. Perhaps a salary cap is inevitable?
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Soto on the move!!! f*** was really hoping we landed him 🙄

I thought he would be their eventual closer... I wouldn't be sad about him being part of our pen
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Soto on the move!!! Well damn that is my exact prediction

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Wow So the Padres legendary farm system is basically no more. All spent, save for Campusano and Gore.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I say the Padres got off light... They have Tatis and others that can play SS... Abrams is excess.. Hassel just another OF spec and a few pichers.. For Soto and Bell. I would do that deall all day all night...
JoJo Parker Dunedin Blue Jays - A SS On Tuesday, Parker was just 1-for-5, but the one hit was his first professional home run. Explore JoJo Parker News >
