Dude their bullpen was not good. They worked well enough in the playoffs but it was pretty much Daniel Hudson + scrubs and Corbin pitching out of the bullpen. The same Daniel Hudson that sucked s*** with the Jays that same year.

Their pen was good in the playoffs. Doolittle was their closer, I think Rainey was around and another guy that was set up type ICR.

Go look at the game logs, which I actually did from their playoff run the year they won the WS. Any game that was a win within 4 runs their pen pitched multiple innnings of scoreless ball or in extras etc... Any game that they won, that was not a blowout, their pen was key...

Doesn't matter, can we get Happ + Givens/Robertson before Cardinals/Dodgers/Mets get them now that Soto is most likely gone?
Posted
Yes on prospects but I was expecting a major league piece would have been sent to the Nats that we would have ached over (Kirk or Espinal) but never happened.

Espinal??? Don't let the door hit you in the ass if that was what it took to close a Soto deal.. LOL

Imagine being a 1B who can't hit and walking into the clubhouse and looking your teammates in the eye after you single-handedly prevented Juan Soto from joining the team.

The wording here is weird.

Has not approved does not mean he has refused to approve it.

He is a Boras player.....he will be pushing for more cash

He's either going to be a Padres legend or the biggest pariah that city has ever seen, talk about an extremely tough position to be in, jesus

Hosmer is browsing for the lastest model of Gulfsteam jet online and will tell Boras which model he wants shortly..

Need to get a 3rd team involved that's on Hosmer's OK list

There's the answer

If I was Hosmer I wouldn't want to go to Washington.

From a contender in Cali to a basement dweller. Wonder if he could negotiate to get his outright release. He'd get his money and then be free to sign with any team he wants for the league min.

Can anyone give the equivalent of the Soto trade from the Jays perspective? Don't know enough about SD.

Manoah (Gore)

Moreno (Abrams)

Tiedemann (Hassell III)

Martinez (James Wood)

Kloffenstein/Pearson (Susana)

I don't really know about Hosmer and how to value the guy but he's negative so prolly can downgrade Manoah to something else

Also, Soto and Tatis are on the same team. And Manny Machado is their 3rd-best hitter.

I literally can not process this trade.

Are the Padres going to become the Angels? Stars and scrubs? Trout, Ohtani, Rendon v. Tatis, Soto, Machado

Nah, Padres supporting cast is way better. Padres SP are miles better than any rotation the Angels have had.

Manoah alone is worth significantly more than any piece Padres giving up

His value has probably tripled in the last year

Hosmer may be terrible now, but's it kinda s***** that they put him in this position. Perhaps make sure he's going to say yes before letting it all out.

I hope he screws them just for the giggles.

For now. I don't think Preller is competent enough to maintain a good supporting cast. They now have no farm, and they don't have the financial resources of the Dodgers or yankees.

Bowden, meanwhile, adds that San Diego would remain on the hook for Hosmer’s salary over the 2023-25 seasons if he were included in the deal, with the Nationals only picking up the remainder of this year’s money.

Why even put him in the deal then?

Just cut him.

I basically agree with this. With some tweaks the Jays could have matched the Padres offer but there is one major roadblock that prevented it and that’s the fact that our main trade chip in Moreno is probably the only position that the shitbag Nats don’t need.
