Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 So the Jays equivalent probably would’ve been Moreno + a couple smaller pieces Yeah, that ain't happening.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Giants are now 2 games under .500 and 4 games back of a wild card spot with Rodon who is a free agent at the end of this season.....Just saying.

They really have been stuck in a rut after the All Star break and look lost as a team right now. They've lost 7 of their last 8 games, and they have been playing teams like the D'Backs and Cubs, which they should be capitalizing on. If they lose the series against the Cubs and fall further back, they have to be selling IMO. Joc Pederson, their best power bat, is on the IL as well right now. Rodon would be a perfect fit in the Blue Jays rotation. Alex Cobb might be also available as well and come cheaper. They also have some intriguing BP arms that wouldn't cost too much like Domenic Leone, John Brebbia, and Tyler Rogers.

RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Cobb would be amazing if we could get him. Dude has been pitching lights out but getting unlucky. Would probably cost as much as Rodon or more based on his contract.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Getting unlucky! Wtf does that mean:confused: It means he has pitched a QS his last 4-5 starts but just not getting wins and had some bad luck with D/BAIP etc.. That is all.. We don’t care about Ws, as a stat, but optics wise he has been pitching better than the casual stats.

I guess durability and age are the only concerns and he doesn't have the upside like Rodon has, but the contract is amazing. It's too bad the Blue Jays couldn't sign him last offseason instead of Kikuchi haha.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 A very Rays move. He will be great in a platoon role and is quite cheap.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 I think the Jays do not need to look further for a trading partner in Detroit. Make a pitch for 3 of their top relievers and send back Cimber, Jansen, and Nate Pearson. Yes bit of an overpay but you need 3 really dam good relievers for the next 2 months and playoff stretch. Nate Pearson at this point is a true wild card for future potential for Jays. At this point he provides no value to our team. We need a type of KC bullpen that we faced back in playoffs when we lost to KC.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 I know this is gonna sound stupid but would Detroit do Soto+Fulmer+Jimenez for Orelvis? Honestly at this point we need pen arms badly and there is no way we can get through NYY, HOU, etc. with what we have right now. I'd be fine with giving a really good prospect but with certain flaws for the possibility of a monster pen.

Would probably take Orelvis + Tiedeman for that i’d think

If we get a good 8th inning guy then pitchers like Garcia, Mayza, and Cimber fall into more suitable roles.

Would probably take Orelvis + Tiedeman for that i’d think I did the trade on the website thingy with the values and it seemed to be pretty fair. Soto would be the big piece but the two others alone would be very cheap. I definitely wouldn't do Tiedemann and Orelvis tho. Maybe Groshans with Orelvis.

I’d do the first trade you proposed in a heartbeat.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Trading Cimber makes zero sense lol. We need to acquire more good relievers in addition to the ones we already have.

You’d give up a perfectly fine reliever, a starting catcher who is defensively sound and hits for power and a lotto ticket for 3 relievers? I don’t even know where to start at tearing that apart
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Cimber is so we free up a bullpen spot or you end up designating him!

I don’t even know where to start at tearing that apart I know it is an overpay but to get 3 of their top relievers you would have to offer up Jansen, Cimber is an “ask” throw in to free up bullpen spot. Cimber is not a high leverage reliever facing top teams best hitters the next two months or guy you want facing someone in a playoff game. Answer me this… not looking to argue but if we did that exact trade and we gave up Cimber, Jansen, and Pearson and we made the playoffs and our upgraded bullpen gave us an edge as a shut down bullpen group the next two months, and took us to the World Series would you do the trade right now!

Cimber has more WAR than both Fulmer and Soto. He's a very valuable 6th/7th inning guy.

It's a bit of a silly argument. I would trade Gabriel Moreno for Brad Hand if it won us the World Series.
MON4NHLTOR4MLB Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Cimber is so we free up a bullpen spot or you end up designating him! This is insanity lol. Of all people in that pen, you don’t just trade or designate Cimber over the other clowns that can go in that pen.
