Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 I just don't want our FO to make stupid trades. We need pitching and that's the bottom line but don't give away the farm. Well... Considering how Shapiro slapped AA's pee pee for going balls deep in 2015, I don't think we'd ever see them get crazy.

We need pitching and that's the bottom line but don't give away the farm. 1 top end pen arm and 1 mid level pen arm should suffice, I think we're stuck with the rotation we have and we have to hope they all stay healthy and the ones that have sucked, need to be better, but not even like lights out better, just need to be average to slightly above average. This offense is good enough we dont need the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation to be great. What we need is 1 pen arm that's clearly better than Romano, and 1 pen arm that's in the tier below Romano and a better bench bat than Collins. Should not need to sell the farm for that, especially given the return that Naquin landed.

We need to assume based on modern day pitcher trends that we will incur injuries to our core SPs and BP. We need more depth. The Teams with the best depth will win the race...
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Is it possible we could get Carlos Rodon from the Giants? Maybe even Joc Pederson as well. They aren't going to make the playoffs. Both of them are going to be Free Agents. We could play Gurriel more at First to get Pederson in the lineup in LF. But Rodon would be the prize. He was the guy I wanted badly in the off-season. And hes having a monster year. Hes 100 percent opting out as his 110 innings have already vested. I think it be pretty stupid for the Giants to hang onto them. They are really bad. I think they just went under .500 as well.

Yeah, good point. I certainly wouldn't bet on it, but flags fly forever and they'd have 3 years to restock the farm.

I don't think you should ever empty your farm. But this regime has shown its not afraid of trading top prospects. Like they have already traded their 2020 and 2021 First Round Pick. If theres a big deal to be made I think they make it. I just don't think they empty the farm ever unless its someone like Soto.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 No, I saw this morning on MLBN... Morisi and others hear that their still buyers. That sucks. I guess they content with qualifying Rodon. Which is funny because his free agency last year was most notable for not being qualified lol.

Big difference between selling the farm to support an aging team who's core is about to decline v. supporting the current Blue Jays team...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Who though, no one's available better than Romano? Raisel Iglesias?
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Author Posted July 29, 2022 Yes but you're comparing Happ's defense in LF v. Springer's defense in CF (+ a few innings in RF)....that's the joke. That's why I also mentioned uzr which includes positional adjustment.....perhaps the jokes on you.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Raisel Iglesias? There's one, lol. He'd be great.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 That's why I also mentioned uzr which includes positional adjustment.....perhaps the jokes on you. Oof, I missed that. Admittedly, which metric is the right one with defense? IDK... lol. DRS/UZR or OAA???
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 I hope they offer Pearson for Bednar, see if Pitts wants to gamble on Pearson shaking his injury woes. Then I'd like them to see how cheaply they can get Iglesias by agreeing to take on most or all of his contract they just signed. Stack the pen up. Romano Iglesias Bednar Mayza Garcia Decent group for high leverage.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Who though, no one's available better than Romano? Would you say Romano is better than Bednar?
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Would you say Romano is better than Bednar? Whoever has the better fastball command on the day. They are actually pretty similar pitchers - one throws from the left side and uses a curve, the other a righty with a slider. Both get destroyed (HH%/EV) if they don't have the fastball command. The only plus Bednar has is he's a 3 pitch pitcher with a changeup, but again, doesn't matter if he can't locate the fastball.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Would you say Romano is better than Bednar? I would say they're on par... I'm not sure they move him, though.

He hits left, throws with his right.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Big difference between selling the farm to support an aging team who's core is about to decline v. supporting the current Blue Jays team... Maybe. But even though that team was aging, and didn't win, fans still look back very fondly on 2015.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 I agree about CF. This team needs a long term replacement in CF and you could certainly argue they also need a short term replacement in CF who we could survive with for an extended period. Catcher on the other hand? We have the most depth in MLB right now behind the dish man. Yah we have catcher depth but Jansen brings a lot of stability to the pitching staff. In a playoff run you need someone like that. Kirk and Moreno are amazing but in tight playoff games I want someone with more experience than Kirk and Moreno in tight games. edit...apparently I need to use "tight" in sentences at least twice...tight...
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 That sux....would have loved to get him.
MON4NHLTOR4MLB Verified Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 LOL. Jays are going to have yet another crappy, disappointing trade deadline and miss or barely make playoffs for 2 games. I have a feeling we’re all going to be pissed off after the deadline passes.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 They were my world series rep from the AL pre season. Maybe they are trying to prove me right…
