I think I would move Kirk over Moreno, personally. I just have no faith in Kirk's body to hold up with that much weight on his knees behind the plate. But I'm also not in a rush to move any of them at this point.

Sure, but Kirk doesn't have the same trade value as the others.

Kirk had been throwing runners out, framing it up and blocking really well this year. He's turned into an above average defensive catcher. His bat has finally ticked above league average and the power numbers are coming. He's going to finish the year with the year 20% better than league average with the bat and he's really good defensively. He's a diet away from being an all-star. All that said and Danny Jansen is our MVP. We have the best catching combo in the league. I don't see how Kirk at league min can't have value. I say we just bring Moreno up in a month and a half and let him do what he does best, which is to DH and pinch hit. We can figure this log jam out in the offseason. Get him enough ABs and bring him up around the 100 game mark for his offense. He'll have to sit when Vlad and Springer DH, but he can still pinch hit and can DH in the other games.

He doesn't have as much trade value, that's all.

Jansen is a stud now and a veteran catcher. He looks the part too.

Moreno is an elite prospect that teams can wishcast on.

Kirk is a fat little piggy. But he's a really good player right now.

I remember Jansen's ability to hit suffered while he was figuring out how to be a big league catcher, hopefully the same is happening with Kirk.

Either way, those two bats should be in the line up pretty much every single day

I was off on my Danny Jansen being an All-Star prediction by a year (he might still not be due to lost time, but sure is playing like one).

I've been a huge Jansen fan since his breakout in the minor leagues in 2017. So it's nice to see everything clicking for him. If he continues to be a good offensive player, it might be time to start talking extension. Feel like he's a hometown discount guy.

He's from Chicago...

All aboard the trade Moreno train. He can be one of the pieces for Soto.

Moreno is currently #4 top 100 prospect on MLB Pipeline and #5 on Baseball America. And 90% of his value comes from his bat. 1st stint at AAA he’s putting up 130 wRC+. The last time we had one of those was Vladdy and Bichette.

You don’t throw those guys under the bus when someone is playing his position. I like Jano but the 1.237 OPS is unsustainable.

Exactly

In a hilarious example of small sample size Jansen has been a better hitter than Juan Soto this season. So.... Yeah

In fairness, he's been a better hitter than....every other player in MLB since the second half of last year.

Since May 27th last season Danny Jansen has a .319 / .394 / .770 / 1.164 slash line and a 211 wRC+

Danny probably sits today with Kirk/Manoah as the battery

They better not. He better be DH.

1. CF Springer

2. 2B Espinal

3. 1B Guerrero Jr

4. SS Bichette

5. DH Jansen

6. C Kirk

7. RF Hernandez

8. 3B Chapman

9. LF Biggio/LGJ

That should be the line-up every day with Jansen and Kirk switching between C & DH.

This can't be right. I don't see Tapia.

You know Chucky won’t DH Jano. Idk maybe its best to rest him a bit so he doesn’t get injured again.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Bo DH or sitting one of these games with Espinal at SS and Biggio at 2B.

And they probably try to give Chapman a day off too with Espinal at 3B and Biggio at 2B

Idk I guess we’ll see. Kirk should definitely be DHing more often than he is.

Buntoyo does not like playing the two catchers together, and now that the 3rd catcher is no longer on the roster, it's even less likely.

Tapia is going to be in the lineup. Jansen is going to sit.

I just don’t understand the hesitation with playing both catchers in the lineup.

How often does a player get injured mid-game and have to come out? If whoever is catching happens to get injured and we lose the DH… just pinch hit the rest of the game. I don’t see the problem.

Agreed. Jansen and Kirk should be in the lineup together as much as possible. But I think it's a combination of Charlie being Charlie, plus preferring to use DH to rest regulars (Vlad/Springer specifically). This kind of falls on Atkins more than Buntoyo since the bench is straight ass and if the org wants to use the DH spot in a rotating fashion, then don't field a roster where playing your two catchers is your best lineup. Hopefully if/when Benintendi or Bell are on this team in July, this will become less of an issue.

I don’t see how Josh Bell improves the situation. He’s a full-time DH. Charlie can barely fit a C/DH into the lineup

Honestly I appreciate the fact that he identified who he is as a hitter and is just rolling with it. If they are going to throw you a lot of fastballs get ready to ambush them. The added strength has definitely helped him as well. The big issue the past couple of seasons is he attempted to lean out and seemed really weak at the plate. He’s definitely both swinging harder and hitting the ball harder which is a direct result of added strength.
