Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 So Biggio's hurt? Holy f***!!! Either that or Montoyo's a dumbass. My money is on the latter.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Espinal took his job. That's it.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 So Biggio's hurt? Holy f***!!! Get used to it. Biggio's days at second base are numbered and his role on this team is being quickly defined.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Espinal took his job. That's it. Espinal playing 2B is fine, but Biggio could play LF instead of Tapia. Unless he's injured, which he could be, but haven't heard anything about it.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 K...... He should be starting in LF though instead of Tapia.
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 WTH kind of shape are our guys in ? Year after year … injuries piled on injuries !
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 The next guy will be Vladdy , seems like the organization is encouraging him to run like a maniac on the bases !

Biggio sucks at the outfield I don't agree that Toronto should put a player out of position, replacing a competent fielder at this position, to get a minor offensive bump

He should be DHing so we dont have to watch Tapia hit 3-4 balls that travel a total distance of 12 feet before they hit the ground.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Stoeten was brainstorming through this decision earlier and it looks like Biggio might be pretty darn bad against high velocity.

Among all the hopeless options against Gerrit Cole, the contact hitter who might be able to BABIP his way to a couple of GB singles might be the best option.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Just shocking to see Biggio written off so fast. Like come on, stop with the three catcher bs, send Collins down bring back Katoh and get Cavan's bat anywhere in there.

We've known this for a couple years now. Thats nothing new. The league adjusted to him and he hasn't adjusted back.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 It seems like the new ball has killed Biggio as much as anything. A good BB% with a high launch angle can thrive with a live ball, even with a mediocre batted ball profile. See Gleyber Torres who has a similar profile and he looked like a Hall of Famer. Deaden the ball and these guys take massive hits to their numbers.

A couple of years eh? He was injured and bad last year, the year before that he put up a 122 wRC+, and the year before that he put up a 114 wRC+. The year before that he was in the minors Biggio had one bad, injury plagued year where he was doing yeoman's work trying to field a position for which he is woefully unqualified.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Yeah it might be this Biggio's xwOBA on fastballs was great in 2019 Mediocre in 2020 while the wOBA was good So what can he do to adjust? Try to spray the ball to increase AVG, at the expense of power? Seems like he actually tried that in 2021. His Pull % went from Gallo-esque numbers in '19 and '20 to almost 33/33/33 in '21. Should he just go back to trying to pull the ball a ton again and live with the results?

Deaden the ball and these guys take massive hits to their numbers. Biggio used to barrel up baseballs with far more frequency when he first came up to MLB. This has been steadily declining since his first season in 2019, along with decreasing sweet spot and hard hit percentages. His batted ball profile has taken a real turn for the worst as his line drive and flyball percentages have both dropped significantly with a corresponding increase in ground balls. I don't know if this can necessarily be explained by a change in the baseball, or whether this is more indicative of a player with eroding batted ball skills.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Keith Law warned all of you about this He really did. The dude knows it all. Baseball, cooking, left-wing identity politics, etc. He's a modern day renaissance man.

Some team will be intrigued by the last name and 2019-20 numbers.

I really hate him. I got in a Twitter fight with him years ago because he was arguing that Vlad should have been a September call-up in 2018. All of his stupid responses got a ton of upvotes from his Twitter fans, further fuelling my hatred.

I think he's gotten into it with me on Twitter before as well. I actually met him at the winter meetings like 12 years ago when I tried to get a job in a front office. I went up to him and introduced myself and he gave me some resume advice for a couple of minutes before shooing me off which was nice of him (this was before I witnessed John Farrell engaging in an affair). So I had a positive exchange with him but his online persona is really unbearable.

There's no worse feeling than getting repetitively ratio'd by a dumb douchebag who is very obviously incorrect to anyone with half a mind. Happens to me often on reddit but I'm glad I've never experienced it on Twitter, which is so much worse.
