mellowgold Verified Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 First home opener in person. What an atmosphere. What a game.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 I've been in Toronto for a while. Could have gone to this game but opted not to. Had a feeling some thing like this would happen Sucks to be you bro. That was the most electric atmospheres I've ever been in. I'm still buzzing.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 Probably going to be the most underrated part of the home opener but the new lights are f***ing amazing. I really didn't think much of it when Shapiro kept bringing up those and the screen upgrades but both things really enhanced the in-person experience. Romano's custom lights and graphics show was utterly epic.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Hey guys, had to write a Biology exam and missed everything after Berrios was yanked. Did I miss anything?
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Sucks to be you bro. That was the most electric atmospheres I've ever been in. I'm still buzzing. I'm seriously jealous dude. I've never been to a Jay game in person but this seemed like a big game atmosphere approaching playoff levels of intensity.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I'm a little late to the party as I just finished the game on PVR (late starting as my kid fell in the tub tonight). I thought this whole game was amazing, including the entire pre-game show which was absolutely fire. I usually skip past the pomp and ceremony but I'm glad I watched as it was the best I've seen to date, I thought that both anthems were amazing in particular. This is going to be a very fun season as the offence shows early that they can club out the victories on nights when the pitching staff struggles to a large degree.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Call me crazy, but I think Richards, Mayza, and Phelps get some innings tomorrow.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I found Charlie's post game interview interesting. Asked about Stripling, he says something about his inning was huge, shut them down - but then he says once they tied it, they had to go to their scripted bullpen arms - Merryweather, Cimber, Garcia, Romano. I wouldn't have thought Merryweather would be in any scripted bullpen situation...

He's probably one of the best arms in the pen when healthy, so the consideration is more likely "can he go" rather than "should we use him".

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 The light show looked pretty cool on TV, I can only imagine what it looked like in person. It was incredible. I watched it back on TV when I got home and the photos I took on my phone and neither did it justice to how good it looks in person. Here are some terrible photos I took of Romano's theme: https://i.imgur.com/j5w1Lu7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/VLFvmmc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/o0V9133.jpg Like I said, that's like 10% of how good it looks in person. The arena went almost completely dark when Romano was coming out but my phone's light-correcting s*** always raises the brightness of my photos in dark scenes. It's usually a good thing but it didn't help capture this, haha.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 This guy's video is better at showing the blue light theme: https://imgur.com/gallery/J7eZVLA Not sure if someone took something similar for Romano's entrance. If he gets a chance to pitch again today, I'll try and capture it in video instead of photos, will probably be more accurate.

If you want th pic to just show in yhour post rather than the link, click on your image in IMGUR, then the COPY button beside the BBCODE section. Paste that into your post and the pic will show directly

Yeah that looks awesome They showed the whole Romano light show on Sportsnet after the game.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 No issues with using Merryweather in high leverage spots. Just seemed odd to list him ahead of Mayza and even Richards given his late season results and spring training results.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 What section and row is this? 115 I guess? Yup, back of section 115.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 There are many good things to get out of last night's game. But my favourite was Chapman's defense. Not only did he suck up everything to Bichette's right, but just his general baseball IQ and being in the right place for backing up plays. He is miles ahead defensively of any 3B the Jays have had in recent memory. Also, Guerrero's over the shoulder catch was the best play I have seen from him on the field and a difficult play for any infielder to make. Gurriel's sliding catch - which I would consider good but not outstanding - but just his and the fans' elated reaction to it was cool. There's a reason why the mishmash of relief pitchers allowed 2 runs over 6 innings with no strikeouts until Romano came in and that was the defense. This was my biggest worry pre-Chapman. They really stepped it up this game.

Feels a bit unfair to the other relievers lol
