Omar Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Benintendi is not the "cheap route". He also sucks. You say that now. Seven months from now many will be donning a Jays jersey (in Canada day red, no less) with Benny's name on the back. He will play LF and you will like it.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Conforto. Conforto and Carroll Make it happen Ross
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Nice problem to have, but what would our lineup look like if we signed Nimmo? Would Springer move down in the lineup? Nimmo Vlad Bo Springer Kirk or Springer Vlad Nimmo Bo Kirk Put the lefty in the middle of all the righties?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Nobody’s a fan boy lol. I think everyone is intrigued at the idea of Bellinger figuring it out again and having him do it here while playing great Defense and being an asset on the Bases in the process. He’s to good of a talent to just be a pumpkin now. There’s so much upside in a one year signing. I love his swing so I wanna see him unload at the Rogers Centre with his shoulder fully healthy. “n0body is a fAn8b0y lulz” Followed up by two paragraphs of unbridled adoration for Cody Bellinger, a guy who hasn’t been good in years
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 I’m not kidding you but even at age 62 I seriously think I could strike Cody Bellinger out. His shoulder is hamburger meat at this point and he sucks. Worst big leaguer I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something because I went to all 81 games in the inaugural season back in ‘77. But this is how I’d attack him. After a little chin music to back him off the plate I’d paint the outside corner with a couple of good old fashioned Terminator curveballs to get the count to 1-2. (I’m a natural righty but I actually throw harder with my left these days.) Then it’d be time for some high heat to get the K. Bye bye Bellinger! Go grab some pine lol

Springer/Conforto at 1/2 (either order) makes most sense IMO. Bo 5th maybe behind Kirk??

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Just trade for Ohtani. Just trade for Wander Franco
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Just trade for Wander Franco He’d play 2b
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 He’d play 2b Can he pitch as well?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Can he pitch as well? Not him but it may open up Biggio being a loogy. It would be a net win contribution wise
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 He's not wrong. Zimmer was a 89 wRC+ hitter in 2021 with somewhat regular at bats. Nobody can hit when they get 3 at bats a month.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 I'm not saying I'd rather have Zimmer, far from it. But Bellinger truly has been an absolute garbage player the past two seasons.

But Bellinger truly has been an absolute garbage player the past two seasons. Absolutely. If you're the Jays, I think you have to see or know that something is changing or improving to bring him in for anything more than $5M a year. Can he show that his flexibility has gradually improved for the past 24 months and is inching closer to where it was when he was the MVP? Or is he making swing adjustments that are starting to show results in EV, launch angle, etc? If he's just going to be the player he was last year - then I have a lot of concern bringing him in for $10-$12M.

But Bellinger truly has been an absolute garbage player the past two seasons. Not really. 1.7 fWAR last year Projected to be a league average hitter in 2023, with the elite CF D and baserunning. He should get better the further along he gets from the shoulder issue and broken fibula. He's a viable target

Also, how much time does he need to get over his health issues?

Also, how much time does he need to get over his health issues? Who knows, but he was better last year than the year before, and projections have him as an average bat. Not for nothin', but his BABIP the last 3 years is .245, .196(!), .255. I expect with the shift ban that should rise at least somewhat, he's a career > 45% pull hitter.

Elite in 2019, Very good in 2020 and absolute s*** in 2021 and 2022....in fact you could argue it got worse from 2021 to 2022.

Nothing more, nothing less. I bet he's only a half step better than Springer out there.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Jim loves Belly He will die on this hill I would give him 10M to see if he can have a Cinderella season. If not who cares, move on. Probably never comes close to his MVP season again

How much I’m not sure
