Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 2/16 with an opt out? That's WAY better for him than 1/8. I guess. Depends if teams would do that. There has to be a fairly low ceiling given that anyone could have traded him for a marginal prospect and secured him for 1/18.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 A few Pillar-like plays in CF would fix that right up. Does this dude have any highlights of him eating grass? Or is his defensive value all good reads? He's definitely not a highlight reel like Pillar. Mostly good reads and steady mistake-free defense.
The_DH Verified Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Having Bellinger feels like Colby Rasmus v2.0. Not a bad get and the overall defence improves. If 2 years is the deal, it's not that bad.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Wasn't he right about this one: He was and so was the other guy on the Gausman deal. Meh...
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Bellinger is going to want Toronto. It seems too obvious. Whether or not Toronto wants him is the question. Depends on what they think of his defense and his chances to help at all offensively. They’ll be weighing this against what they are being told Kiermaier wants, and whatever their trade discussions are so far. Yeah, not only because of recent history (Semien), but the Jays have a s*** outfield aside from Springer. They'd play Bellinger everyday out of sheer necessity. I'm sure Bellinger/Boras both want it.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Well I’m glad that one didn’t come true. God damn.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I saw that Jimbo I'm having an inner battle, one half of me wants to mercilessly troll connor and the other half wants to maintain board decorum
The_DH Verified Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I'm even happy with the average of 2019 and recent years.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 The casuals would hate Bellinger so much. The whining will be incessant if he puts up 2.5 WAR on a 0.210 average, a 27% K rate, and nothing but massive swings at everything. Bellinger is absolute garbage at the plate. lmao
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I’m more in the camp right now that I hope we can do better but would be happy with Bellinger experiment if he proves to the best option in terms of cost and value. The Jays main position player goal this off-season is finding someone you want to play CF for the next 4 or 5 years. That is more likely through a trade. Something definitely has to give with the Diamondbacks OF situation.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I would be intrigued with Bellinger for sure. That said, I would hope that he's not viewed as a straight one-for-one replacement of Teoscar in the lineup. I would want another addition of significance as well.

Maybe there's someone better coming along next year??

Maybe there's someone better coming along next year?? Next year's outfield free agent crop is pretty bad if you are looking for a center field option. Outfield: Harrison Bader, Charlie Blackmon, Mark Canha (club option), Randal Grichuk, Ian Happ, Teoscar Hernández, Max Kepler (club option), Hunter Renfroe, Eddie Rosario (club option), Jorge Soler (opt-out), Michael A. Taylor, Jesse Winker

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Where would you bat Bellinger in the lineup? Just curious.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 This year’s crop is pretty bad too… At least this year at the top there are a few real difference makers in Judge and Nimmo, next season's crop appears to have a ceiling of solid players only.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 As a playoff team that's soon going to have some very expensive roster decisions, the Jays need to worry about 2023 first, then worry about long term holes later. Bellinger at one year > Nimmo at some crazy multi-year contract. Jays likely trade one of their catchers, but I'm leaning towards getting a starting pitcher out of that rather than an OF.

I think they need atleast one long term Outfield option that’s not George Springer. And theres definitely trade options. Jays are in position to do both long term and short term things in order to bolster the roster.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Sign me up for Bellinger. Like I said, I care more about above average defense than I do about offense at CF. Find sluggers through the other positions.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Where would you bat Bellinger in the lineup? Just curious. Probably anymore around 7,8,9 wherever it makes the most sense to a stick a lefty bat in that part of the lineup.
