Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 barf. Benny projected for wRC+ of 113, Conforto 117. Benny not a great defender but better than Conforto
Ray Verified Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 How likely would it be that Kikuchi would get $20M over 2 years (the reminder of his contract) in this crazy market? Still relatively young, throws hard, good raw stuff. If Kyle Gibson at age 35 coming off a 5.05 ERA season is getting 1 year $10M, it's not crazy to think Kikuchi can double that AAV. Berrios $18.7M AAV looking like a bargain. Gausman might've gotten $30M/yr in this market. Overall, our SP contracts seem to have aged pretty well.

Benny will be getting like 4+ years coming off 1 good year after several s***** ones, while Conforto likely wants a 1 year pillow deal.

Yeah Conforto should be a prime target if he’s looking for 1 year. Or even something similar to what Haniger got. Comfortable with Conforto for 3/50

Comfortable with Conforto for 3/50 I wouldn’t touch Conforto for 3 years. I don’t think teams will considering the injury. 1 year sign me up for anything reasonable. Think that’s what it’ll be
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Crazy to think Gausman and Berrios signings are now in retrospect, simply a steal.
The_DH Verified Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Good lord. From everything that I've read, this sounds pretty accurate... I don't think we're doing much. Go big or go home. So we go home.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Crazy to think Gausman and Berrios signings are now in retrospect, simply a steal. Gausman's deal is an absolute steal. I don't think we can say the same for Berrios though. He has 6 years, 112.2 million left on his deal (18.7 AAV). If he were a FA I don't think I'd like that deal very much. Yimi Garcia's deal is looking like a heist right now. Even Kikuchi's deal, even after the year he had, isn't looking like quite the shitstain that it did prior to this offseason. If he could turn it around and be serviceable as a #5, or turn into an above average reliever, it won't be that bad.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Who is the Jays #4 option then?
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Looking like best case scenario for the rotation may just be bringing back Stripling. BNS on the FAN today said he wouldnt hold his breath for Nimmo.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Ok the Kikuchi/White as the #5 news is BAD but I'm not surprised they aren't in on Rodon. Dude is going to get 150 mil in this market and his arm could fall off at any point. Rather than trading a C for an OFer, I think they need to trade one for a SP. I think Espinal should be dangled in a package as well.

BNS on the FAN today said he wouldnt hold his breath for Nimmo. Easy to say in retrospect but they should have offered him the QO. 19.6M for 1 year when Taillon and Walker are getting for year deals for similar AAV is a steal. I don't think anyone predicated that the market would explode like this though. Angels so damn lucky to get Tyler Anderson for 3 years, 39 million.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Considering the rumours around who the Jays were trying to sign, I'd prefer White and Kikuchi actually. WTF are the Jays thinking with Gibson? They don't need to spend money on depth. Gibson is the type of guy you sign in February when literally everyone else is off the board.

We jumped the gun on Roark. No need to repeat that history.

Yeah there are still some Gibson types on the board.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Rather than trading a C for an OFer, I think they need to trade one for a SP. Yeah the Jays desperately need good OF's that are controllable, but getting anything in free agency right now is very expensive, and if you're going for a smaller move, then it's much easier to get a capable stopgap in the OF than a reasonably priced SP right now. I think Kepler in a trade with the Twins is starting to make a lot of sense. He has a 1+1 deal so at the very least he's a 2024 OF option if he's not awful in 2023, and the Twins probably won't expect much for him. Stick him in RF, get a 2 WAR, and then trade Jansen/a catcher for the best SP you can get. The Marlins are apparently listening on everyone except Alcantara, and they have SP depth. I doubt Jansen can get Lopez or Rogers. Maybe Luzardo is possible given his injury issues and lack of track record?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I think the jays add a pitcher. Wacha would be a good get at this point. They might be banking on Zulu and or tiedeman contribution as well
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I think the Jays will add at least one more baseball player this offseason

BNS on the FAN today said he wouldnt hold his breath for Nimmo. I wouldn't either. re-sign Stripling 3 yr $39M sign Conforto 1 yr $18M still need to trade for a CFer. Moreno for Alek Thomas + pitching prospect might work (I preferred Jansen for Nootbar instead of this, but that's no longer an option). I would really prefer an option where we trade Jansen and keep Kirk/Moreno - but I'm not sure that option exists now. Jansen for Chas M?

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I'm still trying to figure out who the #4 starter is, if Kikuchi and White are supposedly their number 5 options.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 If the Blue Jays are serious about being more than a wild card team you can’t go into next season with Mitch White or Kikuchi with a guaranteed rotation spot. Fine as depth but can’t be handed a spot.
