Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 So who gets traded? Should be Kirk IMO
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 If Moreno can be moved to OF or 2B, I wouldn't trade any of them unless someone absolutely knocks the Jays FO socks off with an offer they can't refuse. I don't see the point. Jays will be a 90+ win team this year, and that's with Vlad only putting up 3~ fWAR and Berrios only putting up 1~ fWAR. I take the over on both of those next season, and the Jays will likely have a much deeper bullpen as well as a way better 4th OF option in Merrifield for the whole season.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Should be Kirk IMO Yes, extend Jansen, trade Kirk would seem to be the play

I think it will depend on what they can do with their SP overall next season. If they can sign someone good (maybe 2) or Tiedemann/Zulueta for example are expected to be ready by June, or there is big progress made by White or Pearson they keep all 3. If they don't see any of these as likley I can see them trading a C in a deal for a SP

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Should be Kirk IMO Agreed. Kirk has the most value as well.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 So trade the young controllable guy who just put up 4 WAR in favor of the no pop rookie and the oft-injured soon to be FA? Got it.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 So trade the young controllable guy who just put up 4 WAR in favor of the no pop rookie and the oft-injured soon to be FA? Got it. Yup because you have Moreno on the way. And Danny Jansen won't be expensive to retain. Capitalize on Kirks vaule. That body isn't going to hold up in a Starters role.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Whit Merrifield is slashing .270/.317/.450 for the Jays. Max Castillo's ERA is 5.95 on the year, 7.90 since the trade. What an absolute steal of a trade. Pretty sure this is what got Dayton Moore fired.

What an absolute steal of a trade. Pretty sure this is what got Dayton Moore fired. We have Whit for next year too, for fairly cheap. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him hit close to .300 again and have a 3-4 WAR season. A lot of these guys we got at the deadline could turn out to be great trades down the road. Pop and White both show promise and have several years of control each. Don’t forget that Stripling didn’t look great his first couple seasons here, and he’s an absolute stud this year.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Agreed. Kirk has the most value as well. Yeah exactly. Gotta take age/value/body into account. Kirk likely brings back the best return and he’s the most likely to fall off completely IMO
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Kirk is a 23 year old 4 WAR stud. He'll be fine through the duration of his control which ends before he even turns 30. If anyone is going to fall off completely it's the oft injured soon to be FA or the prospect who has power concerns. Kirk is the safest of the 3, not the riskiest.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Mariners losing 6 to 0, huge.
BlueJays1B Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Who has the tiebreaker between us and M's?
harvey16 Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 With the Rays loss, Jays have now locked up the 2nd Wild Card worst case scenario. Win 2 of 3 in Baltimore and they clinch 1st WC and home field! Hopefully game 162 is meaningless and we can rest our best BP guys and have Manoah, Stripling and Gausman starting for the WC series! Who would you rather face? TB or SEA?
harvey16 Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Who has the tiebreaker between us and M's? Mariners do
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Today's games were huge for home field advantage. Here are the scenarios for the final series of the season. Jays go 3-0 or 2-1 and we clinch home field no matter what the Mariners do. Jays go 1-2, Mariners have to go 4-0. Jays go 0-3, Mariners have to go 3-1. If the Mariners go 2-2 or worse, we clinch no matter what. Good job Jays and good job A's.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 pretty much, every loss Ms take = one loss we can afford. They lost today, we can afford one loss over the next 3 games.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 So we can potentially clinch home field with a win tomorrow and a Seattle loss! Would be fantastic to have 2 games where we can rest guys like Chapman, Bichette, Springer, Vladdy.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Kinda cool to think that we lost two MVP performances and a Cy Young performance but can still manage to tie last season's record, if not beat it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Hopefully Berrios throws a good game tomorrow and we win and get it all wrapped up and can rest everyone we need to heading into the playoffs. I don't think there is any way the Mariners win 4 games in 3 days, even if they are playing the Tigers (who have won 9 out of 10 games). The Mariners would probably have to tax their high leverage relievers to get that done and they might be in the same boat as us on Game 162 in wanting to set up their rotation and bullpen.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Kind of a chill end to the season. The final series has significance but doesn’t reallllllly matter enough to mess with the rotation or tire out the big dudes. So you set up the rotation for R1 and give the core bats 1.5 days off each. Whatever happens happens but hard to see the Ms catching us and even if they do as term said they might have to ride their horses into the dirt to do it

Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Really don't like the pitching matchups for this Baltimore series, I think people are underestimating how difficult this series might be. Baltimore can afford to throw everything they have left at us. And if they can f*** us even a little bit they'll be happy to.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Agreed. Kirk has the most value as well. While Kirk does have the most value, I don't think the Jays will move him. It's going to be come down to Jansen or Moreno if they have to move anyone, IMO. Initially my thought was they'd trade Jansen in the winter, but I'm not sure anymore. Moreno likely fetches the better return, and more teams would be in on Moreno than Jansen. Pretty much only contending teams would trade for Jansen and they likely wouldn't subtract MLB talent for him, so hard to find a reasonable deal there. Moreno would interest every team looking for a catcher, and rebuilding teams are the ones who would trade established MLB talent for prospects, so that's likely the more reasonable move given the team's timeline. Of course, they could move Moreno to a different position and keep all 3. It's a great problem to have.
