Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 In a heartbeat. Manoah is excellent, McClanahan is better. I dunno. He is better and projects a bit better but there is the whole "devil you know" thing and Manoah is such a good fit here. Also, maybe McClanahan with his velo and delivery has a bit more injury risk? Manoah is a pretty free and easy pitcher.

Personally I value McClanahan more simply because he'd been better and projects better, and I feel like it's such a fool's errand trying to project which of the two has greater injury risk. Manoah is absolutely built and looks like he could handle starting more, but McClanahan could be Chris Sale in his 20s for all we know in terms of endurance. I feel like the additional velo (from the left side to boot) if anything just gives him the higher ceiling and both can spin some filthy breaking balls.

All valid I thought McClanahan has some type of injury history but I am googling it now and see absolutely nothing

He's a very serious injury risk. You should mitigate by trading him to me in DDL.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Toronto Blue Jays @BlueJays Your ballpark experience is changing LEARN MORE: http://bluejays.com/renovation Love it. They’re finally replacing the old seats in the 100s and 500s it seems. Much needed. And the new concept art looks cool for the bullpen areas
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 This is nice but everyone just wants grass. Don't they? honestly who gives a f*** about grass anymore? i don't see why it's a big deal yeah it would be nice but it's a domed stadium and the new turf they have seems really good, you barely notice it's not grass anymore
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Toronto Blue Jays @BlueJays Your ballpark experience is changing LEARN MORE: http://bluejays.com/renovation Ok so they are: 1. adding more bar and patio areas, and 2. eliminating that awkward gap between the OF fence and the OF seats. In some cases this is done by bringing the seats to the wall, in other instances this is done by raising the bullpen area to meet the seats. I think these are going to be great changes. The Rockies added a bunch of bar/patio areas and it was very popular. It's a place for casual fans (aka girls and the guys who follow them) to go and drink in the summertime. It also improves the aesthetics of the stadium. At times, the stadium always kind of looked similar to Oakland Coliseum with that stupid gap. Third, it brings the OF seats closer to the action.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Toronto Blue Jays @BlueJays Your ballpark experience is changing LEARN MORE: http://bluejays.com/renovation This all seems excellent Big takeaways: - new outfield wall dimensions! see how the bullpens kind of bulge out - the 500 level update seems excellent since the current bank of empty seats is just wasted space - the website says stay tuned for infield upgrades in the coming months

The issue of grass vs turf was an issue previously in FA etc, so that is why it was an important issue.. I am not sure what the current perception is of the turf. I assume the fact we signed the injury prone Springer, it is not an issue anymore...

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I thought we were getting a new stadium. I swear they said something along those lines not even 2 years ago. I definitely read it. This definitely looks better. But I had higher hopes personally. This doesn’t show the concourse which needs a s*** load of work as well.

They are saying that "infield" upgrades are coming soon.

Looks like the walls are higher too. But then dead center has short walls. So hitting one out at dead center might be a little easier then if you are right or left of dead center a little bit. Either way, I like small quirks like this instead of the cookie cutter dimensions we had before.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 These are just the "outfield" upgrades. They are saying that "infield" upgrades are coming soon. Ah I see. I wonder what kind of Infield upgrades they could be making. I assuming this is going to include the walls and behind home plate area. I can see more triples being hit at the Rogers Centre once these renovations are made.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 The extent of the outfield upgrades has me excited about the infield changes. They might do some big s*** and really transform the character of the entire park. The website says they will reveal them in the coming months. Seems like the outfield construction will be done before 2023 but maybe they stagger the infield construction to the next offseason?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 https://blogs.fangraphs.com/torontos-hunter-mense-on-developing-good-swing-decisions/ Good read but i'll save you the click - cloes notes version is the Jays use a rating sytem to grade swing decisions. Mense is the assistant hitting coach. Nice tidbit here: Laurila: Can you give an example of a guy for whom that’s come pretty naturally? Mense: “It’s always come pretty natural for Alejandro Kirk. He’s always been a very good decision-maker. And if you want to talk about somebody who is very laid-back, and very thoughtful, he’s your prototypical guy. Even at the lower levels of the minor leagues, he was always walking more than he struck out. He was always getting himself into good counts. “We have a grading-out system of decision-makers in the organization, and Alejandro was always one of the better ones, even at the lowest levels. His success has come from hitting the ball harder and in the air a little bit more, but he’s always kind of had that innate ability. You don’t necessarily talk about it a whole lot when a guy is really good at it, but you do continue making sure they keep at it.” Laurila: How does the grading system work? Mense: “If you’re able to take a pitch that most people are swinging at, you grade out really well as a decision-maker. And then if you’re swinging at pitches that have an expected slugging percentage that’s really good, you’re going to get high grades. Spencer Horwitz is another one in our organization that’s always been a really good decision-maker. He swings at every pitch that’s in the area where the expected slugging percentage is really good, and he takes a lot of pitches that are strike-to-ball — pitches that 75-plus percent of people are swinging at, he’s able to take them. “That’s how you ultimately grade out. It’s not necessarily just low chases and high in-zone swings, although that does play into it. But how tough is the pitch that you’re taking? It could be a really easy pitch, a ball out of the hand that everybody takes. Conversely, if it’s one that starts in the strike zone and goes out — maybe it’s from a pitcher with really good stuff — you’re probably a pretty good decision-maker.” Good to hear about Horwitz. Just need to find him a position and he may be something far more useful. He also mentions that Orelvis has improved greatly in this regard so far this year.
