Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 If we're theoretically trading for Soto aren't we likely to include an outfielder in the deal? Teoscar and Gurriel would be viable package pieces wouldn't they? Which also raises another question as to how long Soto is a viable OF option before he has to move to 1B/DH If one was going to be traded its probably Gurriel but he doesn't have to go in that trade. It could be separate trade or the Natationals could just look to flip him elsewhere. Teo would likely go to LF and Soto would slot into RF for the rest of the season. Soto's not a great RF but switching his position probably not the best way to go about acquiring him. Thats something you do in the off-season if anything. Teo has played all the Outfield positions and actually goes to LF when they bring Zimmer into the game to play CF with Springer going to RF.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I'd move Kirky for the chance to see these guys go back to back
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 He looks 38 in that picture. Are we sure he's 23?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 So the Nationals want mainly MLB ready players in a Soto trade. Bichette, Teo, Biggio and Groshans. Does that do it?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 So the Nationals want mainly MLB ready players in a Soto trade. Bichette, Teo, Biggio and Groshans. Does that do it? Probably not. Bichette, Kirk or Moreno, Pearson, Tiedmann is what they'd ask for I'm thinking.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 So the Nationals want mainly MLB ready players in a Soto trade. Bichette, Teo, Biggio and Groshans. Does that do it? MLB ready means top prospects in the upper minors, ready to debut.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Moreno is possibly a better prospect centrepiece than any other team would offer...
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 MLB ready means top prospects in the upper minors, ready to debut. Yeah I know but we don't have that outside of Moreno and possibly Groshans.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Moreno is possibly a better prospect centrepiece than any other team would offer... He's #3 in the Top 100 right?
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Bo, Moreno and Groshans is the maximum I could stomach and that price makes me uneasy. Not an exact science but Baseball Trade Values has that pretty close to the value of Soto. I think a catcher and a 3B/SS prospect is the obvious excess that we have. Losing Bo would hurt, but I don't think we have enough pure prospect capital to make it work without completely gutting the farm
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Moreno is possibly a better prospect centrepiece than any other team would offer... Wasn't it said somewhere that the Dodgers have 7 top 100 prospects and are willing to give up all 7 for Soto?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Wasn't it said somewhere that the Dodgers have 7 top 100 prospects and are willing to give up all 7 for Soto? If true the deal is already done
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Wasn't it said somewhere that the Dodgers have 7 top 100 prospects and are willing to give up all 7 for Soto? Lol damn
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Wasn't it said somewhere that the Dodgers have 7 top 100 prospects and are willing to give up all 7 for Soto? Probably not close to reality
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 He's #3 in the Top 100 right? Yes Plus already proven he can play in the big leagues
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Wasn't it said somewhere that the Dodgers have 7 top 100 prospects and are willing to give up all 7 for Soto? Sounds fake
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Wouldn't matter anyways, the Dodgers could trade all 7 of them and next year they'd have 7 more in the top 100

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Throw in Vladdy while you're at it... LOL f*** Soto, greedy bastard. I never blame the players for betting on themselves. Its 100% a business. The owners give out the insane contracts over and over again. One only has to look at 2B and SS for TEX from the 2021 off season to see the evidence of why it can pay to bet on ones self if you are a player.

He's already won that bet, unless he's really worried that his great-great-great-great-great grandchildren might have to get jobs one day...
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I think Soto turning these offers down is being driven by two things: 1. He doesn't want to stay in Washington 2. Boras' ego
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Wasn't it said somewhere that the Dodgers have 7 top 100 prospects and are willing to give up all 7 for Soto? No way that's accurate.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 No way that's accurate. MLB has them with 6 top 100 prospects. When you can spend 100 to 200 mil more than most teams, why not trade all your prospects....lol
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I think Soto turning these offers down is being driven by two things: 1. He doesn't want to stay in Washington 2. Boras' ego It's gotta be one of those things, because it's a thoroughly stupid decision. There comes a point where you just have more money than you could ever possibly need, and every day that he hasn't accepted that offer is a day that he might suffer a career ending injury and wind up with nothing.

Not even a career ending injury, but one that stops him from being elite and maybe just…average. I think that would be worse

Trading 4, then tipping them another 2-3 out of the goodness of their hearts isn't smart business.

Boras' ego It's most likely #1. Washington is looking at a lengthy rebuild. Their farm is below average, and their core is old. Throw in the fact the owners are looking to sell the team. It's not an ideal situation.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I'm pretty sure Soto's just miserable on a last place team, and sees an opportunity to be playing playoff baseball for the Dodgers or Yankees like 3 months from now.

I wonder if he'd take something close to the 15/$440M offer from one of them.
