I'm just guessing but maybe he's referencing how much of a dick you look like when you cheer for a player on the team you follow to have a potential career ending injury. On top of that it leads to the team getting almost no value out of nearly $40 million in salary. That's just fantastic news all around, we should all be dancing in the streets.

I'm guessing, you are correct. Guy's an idiot.

Espinal on the bench too after 2 hits and 3 RBI last night, absolutely ridiculous

At this point, this is how its going to be run with Springer on CF/DH rotation, and everyone getting regular rest days including our hot hitters.

Its working, our lineup has been healthy (except pitchers).

Lets just ride the health to success rather than pushing all our people against a thin Orioles lineup (no Santander/Mancini)

We have a three-day series coming up against Yankees, we want our A1 team against them in all three. There should be zero problem in giving everyone rest days now so they are prepped for that.

The Ryu contract ended up being a disaster but I appreciate what they were trying to do.

We definitely need to add a starter now for sure.

Yup.. He looked like he needed an immediate break after doing the Charlie shuffle.

The guy's legs collapse on every hard swing and his GB% has been insane lately.

Like it or not he does not a ton of time off to maintain playing health.

Wonder if the Ryu news changes their plan on what to do with Pearson. Could stretch him out more while at AAA

I kind of think it has to...

Looking at Springer's game logs, it looks like he's DHing every 2nd, 3rd game or thereabouts. This goes back to the start of the season. I think it's a good indication the front office went into the season with a plan to try and optimize Springer's health and production, with the hopes of getting him 500-600 PAs. They would have obviously talked to George regarding it to get his buy in.

The most games Kirk has played is 92 games in any season. He's not exactly the model of fitness. Who's to say he would be as be as productive as he has been playing more games? Especially at the catcher position.

There's obviously the temptation to play both these guys more since they have been two of the most productive hitters this season, but the Jays are winning, and the goal is to first get into the playoffs, and 2nd to go deep. Both these guys are key to achieving those goals. I'd rather trust the evaluations of the Jays high performance department, who are with these guys everyday, to develop plans to keep them fresh into October.

They couldn't pick a better/more popular player for that?

He wasn't performing and thus hurting the team. So you'd rather have Ryu continue to be available so we can squeeze out whatever value there's left, regardless of outcome? This gives Shatkins the excuse they need to justify going after another SP (Montas possibly). It's nothing personal against the guy. You guys are f***ing soft.

So you can bring yourself to name calling because we are now looking at better options (most likely) in the rotation with Ryu out of it. You're just a f***ing skid that needs to go lay down and pull your skid marked sweat pants over your head. f***ing loser.

Now's the time to audition some multi inning types. Adrian Hernandez?

Looks like they went the Gage route instead. If we continue to give Gage innings he's going to get rekt. I don't see his stuff being mlb ready. Adrian Hernandez is intriguing but he is a small guy that can barely clock 93mph, who throws a great change. We need swing and miss stuff and he ain't it.

Right now you run with what you have:

Berrios

Gausman

Stripling

Manoah

Kikuchi

Stretch out Pearson in AAA

If someone else gets hurt look at Pearson, Hatch, Castillo or other realistic internal options.

Meanwhile, kick tires on Marquez, Castillo, Mahle, Montas, Quintana etc and look for a deal...

Advanced stats people - does this make someone like Cavan Biggio even more valuable than his .210/.372/694 appears? His .372 and June numbers make him valuable as is, but does his RF/LF have any positive impact?

Gage has a 40% whiff rate so far in his limited appearances. In AAA this season he was striking out 11.34 batters per 9 innings. It doesn't appear as though missing bats has been an issue for him. The team might as well continue to throw him out there in lower leverage spots to see if he continues to have success as he's fully earned his chance.

I actually think its a good thing he's getting a day off. He's the 1 guy on the team right now who's defensive awesomeness cannot be replaced if he somehow does go to the IL. 1 day off won't kill the season.

So Stripling is going to be a starter the rest of the season, but what happens if we lose another starter now?

Its a problem for sure. There is 0 starting depth at AAA right now that I would trust to do anything other than suck.

They were going to stretch him out to a starters workload regardless, or Ross said as much when Ryu initially got hurt.

Defensive versatility is never really a bad thing. But, trying to quantify the value his versatility brings in how mnay times he plays the OF in order to rest other guys... that can't really be done objectively, because it's not a clear "Biggio playing LF tonight gives X player the day off so he WILL stay healthier, ergo he WILL provide more value over the season so if that happens the extra value from X player IS a direct result of Biggio being able to play LF...." it's a factor, but it's not straight line. Zimmer would also be a factor there everytime he goes in defensively etc.

Maybe he should be given entire days off though… let Kirk DH and have Springer on the bench once every week or so

It's adjusted positionally in team fWAR. Not the health factor, obviously. :P

Mahle will give you the best bang for your buck because the Reds are dumb but they think Castillo is Doc Gooden.

Quintana is dog s*** and Montas will cost a lot.

I agree with the above. I also think Blackburn might be available according to MLBTR..

Where is that pre-season thread where group A) Said we have the best deepest rotation in baseball and called anyone who didn’t agree a troll. Group B) Said we need more depth and only have 3 reliable starters. Group C) Said we have two reliable starters (might have been more like a poster or two vice a group)

Not going to be the first on here to say I told you so ref Ryu…
