Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Seems odd to call a guy up then have him sit in his hotel room for a couple days? He can sit on the bench with them and train and take BP and stuff, just can’t actually play in a game yet
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Seems odd to call a guy up then have him sit in his hotel room for a couple days? Kirk will be catching Manoah and Berrios still, so not as odd as you would think...then Gausman is Saturday
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Romano, Mayza, Pearson, Cimber, Garcia, Phelps...I think there's enough there without adding anyone, but of course I'm assuming Pearson becomes a lockdown setup man and Mayza returns without missing a beat. The bazillion days off throughout the playoffs allow you to realllly shorten the pen use.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Would still be nice having another solid lefty option. Yep - This Bednar guy would be an incredible fit. Dude is great v. lefties and righties.

keggy Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 You're assuming Pearson gets over his mononucleosis someday, who is out for months with mono? They're not exactly ramping him up either. He pitches like once a week.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 You're assuming Pearson gets over his mononucleosis someday, who is out for months with mono? Joakim Noah lost his freshman year of college to it I believe
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 What’s a realistic deal for him? He looks pretty good. Pirates definitely need catchers.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 I wouldn't mind seeing the Jays go after both Quintana and Bednar from the Pirates if Ryu is indeed FUBAR for the season. I'd say Reynolds too, but that wouldn't be cheap and I doubt the Jays FO has too much interest in paying that price when he's struggling this season and I also wonder how inclined they would be to break up the "Barrio" Ah f*** it. Jays should definitely kick tires on a package for Quintana/Bednar/Reynolds. That's a big fat pile of exactly what they need IMO. Mid rotation / back end lefty starter High leverage reliever/closer with multiple years of control that can miss bats Switch hitting OF with multiple years of control so we can get rid of Zimmer and stop playing Tapia so much
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Pirates definitely need catchers. They don’t need a catcher with 2 years of control. They won’t be good by then.

It sounds like a pretty big price just for bednar.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 That sounds like a massive price. It sounds like a pretty big price just for bednar. Yeah, likely just wishful thinking on my part. Any single one of those players would be a solid add, all three is a pipe dream.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Springer gets a much needed DH day after playing like 7 innings in the field after an off day. Kirk on the bench and Tapia in the lineup.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 f*** me. Tapia getting at bats over Kirk at this point (at any point, really) is absolute f***ing lunacy.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 They might have looked at the royals series and thought it was a mistake to rest guys behind the worst pitcher. I predict that tomorrow, Teo DHs and Kirk, Chapman and springer are back in the field.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Its getting a bit ridiculous IMO, but I suppose if it prevents injuries then sure. The question I have is if you replaced Tapia on the roster with Katoh, would Kirk have still been on the bench today? If yes, then it’s clearly an org thing and we have to deal with this BS. But with Charlie you never know. A year ago he was pinch hitting Valera for Espinal and Kirk. Now the latter two could be all stars and Valera isn’t in the league. I don’t trust Charlie with anything.

I don’t know about Valera except that managers way over do putting in bad lefties for good righties. However, the first question I think is a yes. That’s just the way they do it. If you are on the roster and expected to be so for a while, he’ll rotate.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 The front office sees something in tapia and Zimmer (to a lesser extent) and well run orgs these days don’t hire managers who would even think about not playing guys the front office want to see. I can kind of see it with tapia but to my eye he has too much to work on. Zimmer i guess is just so good defensively that if he progresses AT ALL as a hitter he’s a good 4th outfielder. I think Zimmer gets more rope because he’s ‘their guy’ right? I’m assuming he came to Cleveland when they were there.

They clearly have an unjustified hard on for him. Hoping they are resting guys today in favor of fielding a full-strength lineup tomorrow against Skubal.

I predict that tomorrow, Teo DHs and Kirk, Chapman and springer are back in the field. Moreno caught Stripling's side session yesterday. I expect he'll be plugged straight into Jansen's role catching Gausman, Stripling, and Kikuchi. Kirk catches Berrios and Manoah and likely DH's 2 of the other 3 games. That leaves 3 DH days which I assume will be 1 Springer, 1 Vladdy, and 1 to rotate. All that to say I expect Moreno catches again tomorrow, Kirk DH's. Knowing Charlie someone like Gurriel will sit to get Tapia in there again.

keggy Verified Member Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Zimmer in CF tomorrow watch Lefty on the mound tomorrow. Zimmer will be in LF and Tapia will be DH. Kirk on the bench.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Yeah Zimmer is here because Shapiro and Atkins drafted him in Cleveland. They clearly have an unjustified hard on for him. Hoping they are resting guys today in favor of fielding a full-strength lineup tomorrow against Skubal. This type of stubbornness is going to cost the organization a lot of wins, it already has. Like I've said a thousand times, Shatkins are good in the draft and IFA signings, but horrible in constructing an optimal big league roster.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Moreno looked really good behind the plate, nice and quiet. The bat speed and bat to ball skills looks like it'll play nicely in the majors also, SSS of course. Is his speed underrated? 29.7 ft/sec to first base puts him in elite territory.
