Yeah the only way I see the Jays in on Soto is if the deal included Bo going the other way, Then you arent giving up as much prospect capital. Im not saying im for that, just stating the only way i see them in on Soto.

You need to buy into Espinal's 6 fWAR projection as what he is, and then you can move him to SS, and call up Groshans to play 2B.

Very interesting suggestion, I think that makes a lot more sense than blowing up the entire farm system. The Nats still get a cornerstone player back in return as well as a few very good prospects as well.

If you are acquiring 3 years of Soto you are trying to win a championship. The star players are what you want to keep, not prospects.

Yeah, the Jays would want Soto and Bo in the lineup together, not one or the other, and if you want to win a World Series, then Soto/Vlad/Bo gives you a much better chance than taking Bo out and replacing him with Biggio at 2B.

I'd love to see this lineup with Jansen and Kirk rotating between DH and C to get them both in the lineup as many times as possible. Working Springer in at DH makes sense as well.

The rationale behind trading Bo, is that you probably can’t pay all three anyway. You also get to keep way more prospects (maybe get to keep Martinez in this scenario). Bo is also a player who could fall off a cliff mid extension because of his approach.

 

Soto more than replaces Bo’s bat and then you trade for a SS who can play plus plus defense and save runs compared to Bo. He can bat 9th.

 

I don’t know if I agree with it but it makes sense in a way. Especially with the schedule being made more fair next year, it will be easier to make the playoffs and the goal is just to make the playoffs and then get hot as many years as possible…. not to be as good as possible over the next three.

When the target is a truly elite talent, the peripheral pieces in a deal have reduced perceived value.

 

The above offer would essentially be interpreted as Moreno + change for Soto. So it would be rejected swiftly.

 

Biggio - little value.

Gurriel - little value.

Pearson - little value.

Tiedemann - intriguing but still not huge value.

 

The Nats would rightfully ask for Bichette + Moreno + Martinez. Something like that. Maybe with a couple other fluff pieces thrown in.
