I think the mound needs to be moved back. Like 6-12 inches or something.

The pitchers are simply too good now. Throwing too hard and their arsenals are only getting more optimized.

Get rid of the mound altogether.

Amazing... hopefully Teo will be able to play both games.

Fun Fact I heard today:

Jays match up hitting "platoon advantage" is 32% due to RHH. Lowest level since 1974 data was collected.

When we do have the "advantage" vs RFP its Tapia/Zimmer et al.

FO obviously knows we need an impact LHH. Wonder who its going to be, and when.

Josh Bell as a DH is a name floated. SH - Career wRC+ 117. Good not great and no D versatility. Curious what people think of that name?

Love the idea of adding Josh Bell

I miss the platoon of Frank Catalanotto and Reed Johnson. They both together were utilized so well, especially in 2006.

lol. Ya me too. I miss Garth Iorg and Mustache Rance. Didn't Whitt and Buck also platoon at C.

I think the point was we only have L v R and R v L 32% of the time which is lowest potential match up advantage since '74, and when its R v L its Zimm.

Reed Johnson posted a 4.4 WAR and Cat posted a 2.6 WAR in 2006, damn! Combined for 7 WAR haha. I know sometimes they both played at the same time as well depending, but for the most part they platooned in LF. Gibby did a fantastic job utilizing them both and I can't think of a better platoon the Jays had in recent memory.

Haha... I see Iorg on FB all the time chatting with my buddies as he was their coach in the MILB. Nice guy, those platoons were great at the time. Buck's D was top shelf, and Ernie was a good LHB, same goes for Rance and Garth.

Manoah is going to be a FIP buster if last year is any indication. Dude is legit. Not Degrom legit like rn but he’s the cheesy sauce man

I think the only chance of that will be if he DH's in both. More likely I think he plays the field in 1, is off for the other and the DH's Sunday. Get used to seeing Tapia. I expect Spring/Teo DHing will happen at least 50% of the time for the next month sadly.

That's still a massive improvement compared to recent games where both Tapia and Zimmer are in the starting lineup so I'll take it.

There's probably a better chance of seeing Zimmer or Tapia in both games

Our bench depth went from Tellez and Girchuk to Tapia and Zimmer. Even those guys at their worst provided the threat of being able to do damage. Zimmer and Tapia are just pathetic.

Collins is obviously the Rowdy replacement except he has the ability to catch (rather poorly I might add but at least it adds versatility). Zimmer is just a guy I think the front office decided to take a flyer on to see if they could coax something out of him. So far that's an abject failure though.

I don’t think you’d need to go that far right away. I’d like to see the following in conjunction:

- keep the current ball and tell teams that this will be the ball going forward - so teams can plan for this run environment

- have a hard pitch clock.. no resting for minutes between pitches

- reduce the amount of pitchers slightly (maybe just by one reliever year one and then see how it goes)

- make the plates a little bigger

Then play a year and see how it works out. I think with all those things together, you could create a more action packed quicker game. And, you wouldn’t be making any drastic changes.

Bags you mean? Can't reduce pitching like that, too many injuries will ensue.

Yea, bags sorry.

I don’t know. Teams barely let guys pitch in the minors (5 innings max for most teams), they don’t let guys go more than 90 pitches in the majors, they know so much more about workload … and guys still get injured a ton because everyone throws max effort every pitch.

I’m not sure how to stop that without removing the amount of available relievers and making starters go longer as a result.

Maybe, just start with the hard pitch clock and see how that helps.

Yeah, I don't believe in cutting into arms.

Good thing Dr James Andrews doesn’t share your belief in that regard.

Teo is not in the line up for the first game?

Seriously? I assumed he could play in the field one game and DH the other.

If im guessing, they probably want him in the lineup for game 2 instead. Need less offense with Gausman on the mound?

But yeah kind of odd he couldn’t DH game 1 and play RF game 2. He can’t handle 8 at bats in a single day?

It's literally his first game back! Why push it with 2 games in the same day? This is a smart move imo. Imagine if he got re-injured and then was out for months instead of weeks. Ease him back in.

They also need better bats against Bieber, this has all the makings of yet another 2-1 game. I think Montoya just wants to get his boys Zimmer and Tapia in there as much as possible

Zimmer should be strictly on the Dyson role where he only plays as a defensive/pinch running substitution. The fact Montoyo keeps trotting him out there is just puzzling.

Honestly, at this point there's zero justification for not DFAing Zimmer. He's been so much worse than anyone could have expected, and there's almost no chance any team would claim him after this putrid display.

He is the extra man for the 2nd game of the day. That way they didn't need to make a roster move until tomorrow
