Whatever the Vegas line is on Yankees season win total, I will be betting the under. The team is littered with old, injury-prone and overpaid/overhyped players. Yankees are basically the co-favourites with the Astros to win the World Series right now.

The Royals just signed Cody Poteet to a minor league deal.

 

First off, I was blown away he was a minor league FA. I thought he was under control and in the mix for being the Marlins 5th or swing SP.

 

Second, he was someone I was hoping to Blue Jays would get as part of a package if we went after Lopez or someone like that from the Marlins.

 

Third, if he was a minor league FA, why the hell did the Jays not sign him!!!??

 

I would have 100% let him compete against Kikuchi and White etc in the spring and I would have put money on him winning the job…

Yeah Yankees lineup is littered with old and injury prone players. Judge won't have the season he had in 2022. Stanton is becoming a guy who can barely hit .200 now. Donaldson I think is toast. Rizzo's best days are behind him as well. Torres might put up better numbers, otherwise their lineup is nothing special and could turn into a dumpster fire.

I expect pitcher health will be an issue for the Yankees as well, more so than for other teams.

Could be as well. Rodon has never surpassed 200 innings before, Severino coming back from a major injury, Cortes maybe only gives them 5-6 innings every time out.

 

Plus the bullpen has some holes as well.

New York has already shattered the fourth and final tier of CBT penalization, subjecting them to a 90% tax on every additional dollar spent. The Narváez deal will cost them an extra $6.75MM in taxes, meaning the Mets are committing $14.75MM to secure his services for next year alone (in addition to the 2024 option). That’s likely a far higher price than any other club would’ve paid, but it’s the latest example owner Steve Cohen is unconcerned about spending when the front office presents him an opportunity to improve the roster.

True! Didn't consider this. The Narvaez salary is fine. The tax imposed on Cohen is really separate, and what he's doing is stupid, but its his money. More money than brains.

I'm still pretty married to the idea of adding Rogers to really solidify the pen. You need that kind of quality to compete with the gauntlet of late innings arms that other clubs can role out. One more guy to join Romano in the late innings/high leverage mix, and the rest really falls into place quite nicely. Swanson has shown he can be pretty dominant in middle relief, no need to ask any more of him or count on Garcia, Cimber, Bass etc to be Romano's right hand man. As a bonus, Rogers adds a second lefty to the group.

 

They've done a great job building/solidifying the rotation with the moves the last couple off seasons - should just spend that extra 10-12M to really back them up in the BP.

Yes they were the highest in 1997 around 72M but they for the most part (5-6 seasons) haven't really spent money since then, they've been in that 70-90M range if not less.
