Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 People have been arguing for a Jansen Grisham swap. Kim had close to 4 WAR last year. Correction: Dumb people have been arguing for Grisham. Grisham is s***. He is a 4th OF at best. Do you think the FO who asked for Nootbaar or Helsley for Jansen would settle for f***ing Grisham?

Grisham is projecting for higher WAR than Teoscar. Jansen has had one season higher than 2. Kim just had a 3.7 WAR season. Espinal is not that valuable to me. If they can add those players and get Rodon, I'd much rather that scenario. That said it would be contingent on getting Rodon. I'm actually a Jansen fanboy, but don't think he's going to get close to what some people think with 2 years left.
The_DH Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Let's remember, we're not the GM and the GM is not asking for our opinion so the trade will be what the trade will be (if any). Best to just look at the various possibilities and not get personal. And for the record, I want a great centre fielder and an awesome pitcher or two.... and a world series appearance too.

He completely forgot how to hit and it shows in statcast numbers. Jansen generated 2.6 WAR in 248 PA. He can easily surpass 4 WAR if stays healthy. His health issues are not related to a chronic problem so he is more likely than not to actually produce 4+ WAR.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 8 years for Nimmo, no thanks. WTF? So many players will be getting 20M - 40M into their late 30s. How many productive position players are over 36?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 8 years for Nimmo, no thanks. lol WTF. Were they basically just bidding against the Padres?

Grisham is projected to have 106 wRC+. And is a good centerfielder from what I've read. I'd much rather him than throw money at Kiermaier. Kim has much higher upside than Espinal and can slide him into 2nd base. I really think Jansen is being overvalued here I'm terms of what he'll get back in return.

Key22 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Nimmo would have helped. Keep seeing the names drop off the board. Are we now into dumpster diving mode for mediocrity like Conforto?

FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 KK would be such a bad Plan C. The same ppl that will applaud it wanted JBJ a couple years ago. Yeah, there's only so many possibilities here. Jansen isn't going to get a pitcher like Pablo Lopez or any other starter like that. It would have to be one of the young catchers. I'd much rather have a team of Kirk, Kim, Grisham, and Rodon than a team of Jansen, Espinal, Kiermaier, and Lopez. If the D-backs would give up a young OF than that would change things, but I just can't see that happen.

Projections have high variatiance especially for players like Grisham whose historical performance ranges widely. His numbers have been trending down over the past two years. Can he recover? Sure. But we shouldn't use our best trading chips for a reclamation project.

There's not many centerfielders available. Grisham had 2.2, 2.2, 2.1 WAR the last 3 seasons. Plus, thats why the inclusion of Kim, who again had a 3.7 WAR season. If we keep Jansen and sign KK then I really think the team will be worse off this coming season.

FO looking for Nootbaar or Helsley is a good sign.

FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Arizona or bust!!! Marlins or bust!! What do you feel is a very fair trade with these teams? Not wishful thinking, but a completely fair trade.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Estimated $335 million luxury tax payroll for the Mets lol
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Estimated $335 million luxury tax payroll for the Mets lol Does that push them over 400M if you include the tax?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Pretty good week at the office
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 What do you feel is a very fair trade with these teams? Not wishful thinking, but a completely fair trade. One of our younger catchers for an solid OF from AZ (they also have young pitchers I really like) or Pablo Lopez or Edward Cabrera from the Marlins.. Wish list Kirk for Varsho, would probably take Moreno Martinez and a sweetener maybe LGjr for Lopez (not sure how many years left on Lopez?) or Cabrera. Or Kirk for E.Perez if we catch Ng sleeping
FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Oh, I would love those trades. I think I view the players on the other side higher. That's why I'm skeptical. But who knows.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Imagine being Ronald Acuna right now. He'd be two seasons from hitting free agency going into his age-27 season if he hadn't signed his extension. He'd probably be looking at a 400M-500M deal, assuming the power comes back this year. Instead he's signed through 30 for 134M.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Estimated $335 million luxury tax payroll for the Mets lol Spotrac had them at 333. That puts them at 401 with the tax they owe. Congrats Mets! That's ludicrous. They are actually a worse team on paper than last year too..lol.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Just looked up position players over 35 and above last year. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=150&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0&team=&rost=&age=36,58&filter=&players=&startdate=&enddate= Jose Abreu (35) was excellent over a full season Matt Carpenter(36) and Albert Pujols(42) had dead cat bounce seasons and were excellent in limited PAs. Justin Turner(37) was an above average MLB player over a full season. Longoria(36), Brandon Crawford(35), and Brantley (34-35) were average MLB player over limited PAs. Donaldson(36) and Carlos Santana(36) were below average MLB players over a full season. 14 players were replacement level or below. With the exception of Pujols (who was below replacement for 4 straight years prior) and Turner, nobody over 36 produced above replacement level performance.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 8 years for Nimmo, no thanks. Jesus. Baseball has gone f***ing insane…again. We won’t be extending Bo or Vlad I don’t think. Maybe Manoah given we can share some risk still pre arb. AA is a genius for locking up that core at the AAVs and terms he did it at, even before this spending spree.
