Bloom is going to be absolutely raked over the coals for this situation, however he ultimately dodged a huge bullet handing out that type of deal to an aging middle infielder. This makes last offseason's semi-ludicrous Semien deal look like a steal in comparison.

Say what you want about Chaim. And hes been mostly s***. He stuck to his principles and what he vauled Bogaerts at. It’s not really his fault the Padres decided to pay out the ass for him. Yea it sucks for them today but in the long run that’s not a contract you want to hand out.

Yeah. There are real warts with Bogaerts. Dude hit 15 homeruns with a 0.323 xwOBA last year, and has always struggled on the road where he can’t pepper balls off the monster. This could be ugly almost immediately.

Reports are that Boston was not even a top 5 bidder for Bogaerts

His offer was realistic. Too bad he's delusional.

Realistically, it should’ve never even gotten to this point with Bogaerts/Boston. Bogaerts was adamant about wanting to stay, and then Boston spits in his face by offering him a 4 year $90M extension, which is a total slap in the face. He was already due $60M over three yeees if he opted in, so really it ended up being a 1 year $30M extension. Just a total misalignment of value.

Like if they offer him $150M over 6 years or something in Spring Training, they probably sign him and it would’ve been a fair value deal that would’ve aged incredibly well in this market.

I’d like to realistically pay $1.99/g for gas. It’s like $1.50 in the 2nd rate countries I was in. If I only it worked like that

Won’t be fun signing any big names

Bloom f***ed up twice here: the biggest mistake was not getting it done before last season, and the second mistake was holding him at the deadline with Boston out of contention. Once those ships sailed he was right to let him go.

Could be an option involving Jansen but given the prices on starting pitching I really think we need to try and work something out with the Marlins.

I'd have no issue with an occasional worrisome groan, but when every single post is whinging about an offseason that has only picked up steam a few days ago that gets old really quickly.

Don't forget that he whined all last offseason too...

He should have known they wouldn't compete to keep Bogaerts and traded him before this point. Chaim is a f***ing idiot - even if he "dodged a huge bullet".

I don’t tend to think anyone that is running a front office for a mlb is stupid.

I don't think this is true. Were you a huge fan of Dave Stewart also?

Disregarding any specific examples, it just means there doesn’t have to be one approach. There’s so much we don’t understand about the business of baseball, we can only comment on how WAR saavy something is.

Like have you ever read Texas’s tv contract, like what if there is a lot of money at stake in terms of money outside the guarantees, like with ratings and such. Or teams negotiating the contract. Or an owner that wants to win now and he understands the contract they’re signing isnt objectively smart.

The most important thing to know.. is franchise values haven’t absolutely exploded because of their bottoms lines. It’s a trophy asset and all about the image in the end

Sorry, but Dave Stewart was absolutely f***ing stupid. End of story.

For some reason, likely cause it’s a Jays board, I thought you meant the pitcher until I Googled the other guy lol

The pitcher never made it to GM, I remember him crying racism

Seems like Lopez is the guy they'd move bc he only has 2 years of control left and they are cheap. They would no doubt want Kirk or Moreno for the same reasons but I wonder if Jansen and Espinal would get it done for Lopez. I posted a trade earlier where we also chip in Macko and Richards and get Sanchez who has a good batted ball profile which the Jays FO loves. There's got to be something there we could work out.

We all know that Kim likes her cute slap hitting infielders as she gave up Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson for Joe Panik (lmao) and then also gave up Bass and Pop for Groshans. The question is, is Espinal cute enough for her?

His name is Santiago and it's Miami.

A perfect match, really?

I remember that trade prop. I liked it.

All joking aside it's a perfect time to sell on Espinal IMO.

He's a slow slap hitter whose value is in his defense and not striking out. But he also has a weak arm so is best suited for 2B. With Whit, Craig Biggio's son, Barger and others on the team he's also completely expendable. Jays should def look to move him.

Agreed. And this will be the only time you can use this line during negotiations:
