John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 DeGrom and Rodon for sure - Verlander is a maybe Have no idea what they might get. both DeGrom and Rodon have injury concerns that might limit their contract length, but both should get pretty nice AAVs
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 All of the following SPs have opt outs they can exercise this off season Who is most likely to do so and what might they get for contracts if they do? deGrom Verlander Rodon Just deGrom, the other two are FA's? Nvm... I'm wrong, all of them opt out, regardless. Walker will for sure.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Obviously there's no draft pick compensation or cost for losing/signing someone who opts out right?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Obviously there's no draft pick compensation or cost for losing/signing someone who opts out right? They can still be offered a QO by their team unles they've received a QO in the past or were traded during the season. I think Rodon and Verlander have both had QO's before so.. the Mets can still offer DeGrom a QO when he opts out, which he will surely reject. QO for this upcoming season is 19.65 million Edit: Just checked, Rodon has not received the QO before, so he will likely get one too.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 The White Sox didn't offer him a QO? lol Nope. From Their GM last off-season... "Essentially, it's a contract offer of $18.4 million for one (year)," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Tuesday at the GM meetings in Southern California. "And we made the assessment based on everything we know, which includes our needs and our other targets, that that wasn't an offer we were comfortable making at this time."
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 White Sox To Hire Charlie Montoyo As Bench Coach By Anthony Franco and Darragh McDonald | November 1, 2022 at 7:35pm CDT The White Sox landed on their new skipper this morning, with various reports indicating that Royals bench coach Pedro Grifol will take over the dugout. Grifol has apparently already tabbed his top lieutenant. Former Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo will join Chicago’s staff as bench coach, as first reported on Twitter by Northbrook Bob. It could be the start of a significant coaching staff overhaul on the South Side, as Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic tweeted this morning that a number of the members from Tony La Russa’s staff will not return. Pitching coach Ethan Katz is a seeming exception, as Rosenthal notes he’s expected back for a third season. Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times hears the same and reports that bullpen coach Curt Hasler is likely to stick around as well. The rest of the staff makeup seems to be up in the air. Most notably, that includes now-former bench coach Miguel Cairo. The longtime big league infielder was hired as La Russa’s right-hand man going into the 2021 season. He spent two years as Chicago’s bench coach and took over as acting manager at the end of this past season when La Russa stepped away to attend to the health problems that eventually led him to vacate the managerial position. Cairo got an interview from the Sox for the full-time managerial position, but he obviously didn’t land that job. Now, it’s an open question whether he’ll return to the organization in any capacity. Montoyo adds an experienced voice to the Chicago coaching staff. The 57-year-old has coached or managed in the majors for the past seven years. After more than a decade and a half managing in the Rays farm system, Montoyo got a bump to the MLB staff as Kevin Cash’s bench coach heading into the 2016 campaign. He held the role for three seasons before the Blue Jays hired him as their skipper over the 2018-19 offseason. The Puerto Rico native managed the Jays for three-plus seasons, leading Toronto to a playoff berth in 2020. The Jays narrowly missed the postseason last year. Toronto started the 2022 campaign 46-42 and held a playoff spot as the All-Star Break approached, but the Jays decided to go in another direction and fired Montoyo on July 13. Bench coach John Schneider was promoted and guided the team to a 46-28 record down the stretch, clinching a Wild Card berth before losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Mariners. Montoyo’s past bench coach and managerial experience should be welcome for Grifol, who’ll manage an MLB team for the first time. He and the front office figure to build out the remainder of his staff over the coming weeks. Hitting coach Frank Menechino, assistant hitting coach Howie Clark and base coaches Daryl Boston and Joe McEwing are among those who appear to have uncertain futures as the Sox shuffle their staff.

Honestly good for him. He’s a good guy. Probably makes a great bench coach, just don’t think he has the chops to manage/helm a competing team.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Great bench coach for that team. He might be the best bench coach in baseball now. Underemployed. Sort of. I would not be shocked to see him managing the White Sox in a couple years.

Ray Verified Member Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Ideal scenario would've been to elevate Schneider to manager in 2019 and hire away Montoyo to be our bench coach. I think Montoyo is a valuable guy to have on a coaching staff. Just not as a manager.

I would not be shocked to see him managing the White Sox in a couple years. Gibbons was in a similar situation. He was poor his first go around with the Jays, we were all excited to see him fired. He signed elsewhere as a bench coach, and then when he returned to being a manager he had improved.

wamco Verified Member Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Remember the Sox chose to QO, just to trade him, kimbrel but thought rodon was a poor investment. It certainly screamed (and maybe still does) scream red flag to me. He’s still my number 1 FA (realistic) target. I think he’ll get around gAuss/Ray money. Verlander opts out and gets a 2 year deal around 40m aav I’d think. No clue what degrom will get. At the numbers podcast threw out bargain (below 10m) on one year deals to guys like britton, Bradley, Clevenger/kluber. Those 3 would be an interesting offseason imo and would wreak of Atkins if you ask me. Maybe trade Jansen for a real good looking OF(preferably OF, but prob more risk there) and SP in preparation for lgj and teo leaving as well as Clevinger/kluber. Any thoughts on what a sp/of package for Jansen could be worthwhile? Maybe LGJ goes as well

So here are some possible matches: Houston Milwaukee Minnesota St Louis Cubbies Arizona Colorado (not near contenders / dumbasses) Atkins has a good number of potential trade partners for one of the 3C.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 It just makes too much sense that we trade Moreno to stl and they have another stud catcher for 20 years, right? And if we hold him, he flops. Real talk though, you gotta factor in moreno timeline and current value (high). If it is gonna take him 3 seasons to really bust out, which wouldn’t be crazy for a young catcher, maybe he is the one we move

I’d add something to slap-hitting Moreno for sure if need be
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 There's probably no chance that it happens as top prospect for top prospect trades are pretty rare (especially top 10 for top 10), but Moreno for Walker would be interesting. Value-wise they are probably close to equal, and both are blocked by internal options (Arenado in STL and Kirk/Jansen here). Moreno fills a huge need for the Cardinals while 3B won't be a need for the Jays until 2024, so timeline-wise it makes more sense for the Cardinals than the Jays. Given where the Jays are in their window, I'd imagine any trade involving Moreno would be for an established big leaguer and not another prospect (unless it was someone like Corbin Carroll who has already contributed at the big league level, but I don't see the D-Backs doing that).

This is an interesting thought. If you could add in Carlson somehow, you'd have a chance for another Alomar/Carter for McGriff/Fernandez deal (although they were all more established). Moreno + who for Walker and Carlson?

wamco Verified Member Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Well here is what BBTV comes in at for fair value. Sidenote: (I saw a previous recent post where poster put the Bbtv values next to the players in a proposed trade. Can we make that a thing to add legitimacy and starting point for trade discussions) ??? Walker and Moreno both come in at 61. Jansen 27 for graceffo 19 (sp 55 future value) and Baez (OF they hope can stick in CF but a ways away future value 45) Kirk 39 for graceffo 19 and Burleson 16.5 (OF 55 future value). Both should be in mlb this year Here are the page links- https://www.mlb.com/prospects/cardinals/jordan-walker-691023 https://www.mlb.com/prospects/cardinals/gordon-graceffo-700669 https://www.mlb.com/prospects/cardinals/joshua-baez-695491 https://www.mlb.com/prospects/cardinals/alec-burleson-676475
