Does anyone know if in the ALDS, would Houston play the lowest remaining seed? If Tampa beats Cleveland - do they play Houston and we (after beating Seattle) play NYY? Or is the ALDS already set that Houston plays the winner of the WC1 v. WC2 round?

Its set. WC1/WC2 > HOU | WC3/ALC > NYY, no matter what happens once everything is locked in on Oct 5.

I feel like NYY has a very easy trajectory to ALCS especially if Rays get knocked out by CLE.

And could lose that series

Yikes

f***in crazy. First place all year and they choked in this Braves series, now will only get a wildcard spot.

ALDS seeding is set already. The idea is that the 1st place team (Houston) won’t end up having to play a division winner in the ALDS. NY could end up playing Cleveland.

I don't know if I can really say they choked. Atlanta's just a better team and caught up with them over a period of time. Mets are having a fantastic season. One of those two very good teams was going to have to play in the wild card just like the NL West last year. That's baseball.

I feel like people are sleeping on Cleveland a bit. I don't think they're going to be the walk in the park that everybody is expecting them to be.

Couldn't agree more. They put balls in play which forces a D to play well, and have a little pop. Good pitching and their closer is filth personified.

They have the same record as we do, which may surprise some.

I'm telling ya he's on roids. It's his last year so he thinks he can probably beat the final few tests he gets down the final stretch of his career. On top of it, what are they going to do? Suspend a legend from his remaining half season? Not a chance.

Prob not roids but some kind of PED for sure.

I think you are projecting, who said Indians will be easy? Anyone can beat anyone in the playoffs, there is no "EASY".

Sure, but comparing records when they play in an easier division is pretty moot. No one is easy in the playoffs period.

Their lineup isn't deep (Gimenez, Ramirez, Kwan, Naylor) and maybe Will Brennan takes the world by storm? But - they do almost everything else really well. It may remind us of the 2015 Royals a bit - but I don't think they'll go quietly.

I'm likely going to bet some money on them making the World Series. They have good odds.

Also, I wouldn't sleep on St. Louis in the NL.

God that would be such a boring world series. Guardians vs Cardinals…. Only thing to get excited about would be Pujols

I have no problem rooting for the Cards to make the WS. Pujols, Yadi, Wainwright + 2 of the best in Goldy/Arenado + a bunch of young guys (Nootbaar, Donovan, Carlson, Gorman, O'Neill. I can get behind that. Cleveland - I agree with you.

Brewers lost 3/4 against Marlins

Mets got swept by Braves

The NL wildcard suddenly looks completely different

It might not be a big market matchup that has the hype as a Dodgers/Astros or Dodgers/Yankees World Series matchup, though as a baseball fan, St. Louis/Cleveland would be a fun series to watch.

Cleveland is quite literally the last team I would like to see in the WS on the AL side. Maybe tied with Tampa. On the NL side i'd rather see Mets/Dodgers/Padres/Braves

I think Seattle/Toronto on the AL side and Padres/Mets on the NL side would be ideal

I must be the only person who doesn't like the Padres. Their pitching is really solid. Love watching Darvish, but their offense isn't that interesting to me. Machado (whom I hate), Soto, Jake C and a bunch of duds. What I'd really like to see for SD to stick with Blake Snell deep into an important game (a 3rd time through the lineup) to see what happens. Personally I'd prefer in that situation for him to get lit up.

Toronto or Houston in the AL

Atlanta, NYM or the Cards in the NL

That's who I hope makes the WS.

Yes they definitely remind me of the 2015 Royals and that scares the s*** out of me. A great BABIP run from a team that sprays the ball, instead of trying for high exit velos and whiffing, could easily eliminate us.

I'm terrified of that.

Anything can really happen in short series, but quite honestly the Guardians scare me the least. They are dead last in virtually every metric that corresponds with offense, they are far more likely to put up 0 runs per game against other teams top pitching than they are to beat people with the stick

$5 to win/place on the Guardians pays out $175.

+2200 odds to win the World Series.

Great way to lose $5.

Nelly Cruz says he's going to return in 2023. It looks like Father Time has caught up to the guy though unfortunately. I'm sure heading into this season, he was eying 500 career HRs, but that looks like he'll come up a bit short after only popping 10 HRs this year.

Aww how cute... certainly not with the Nats though (mutual option will be bought out for $3M if I'm understanding the contract correctly...).

All they need to do is reach the World Series. Anything can happen in the Postseason as we've seen before with teams surprising and going on a run. Sure you can bet the heavy favourites like the Astros or Dodgers, but you only get +300 odds and need to put more money down in order to get a larger return.

Best bet was ATL a couple weeks ago. They were at +700 and now are at +450 after taking the division lead.

Could be a nice value signing if he returns to somewhat of his previous form. Low risk/high reward signing for a team needing a slugging DH.

Cleveland has won something like 22 out of their last 27 games. But it is a long shot to get past all of Jays, Yankees, Astros. Great return on the dollar if they did though for such a low cost bet.

(Hilariously, my voice dictation software put "*s" when I said "Astros")

Pujols replacement for STL

Possibly. I wish Pujols still plays for another season or two haha. Though yeah, Cruz would be a perfect fit in STL as a DH/bat off the bench.

I kind of doubt St Louis, and most teams, even want Nelson Cruz. In all likelihood he's worse in 2023 than he was in 2022.

A bottom feeder will sign him hoping for a dead cat bounce and move him at the deadline.
