2023 AL Power Rankings

Houston

New York

Tampa Bay

Toronto

Seattle

Cleveland

Baltimore

Boston

Minnesota

Chicago

I still think a team like Seattle probably edges Baltimore or Toronto or Tampa in 2023 for the final WC. Whichever of those three suffers too many injuries or s***** performances.

Wouldn't sleep on the White Sox. Battled some significant injuries this season and have underachieved greatly. They were highly rated as the Blue Jays entering the 2022 season as well.

Yeah Baltimore would have to spend that money wisely, though they can definitely add some significant payroll if they wanted to which is scary. Orioles had success from 2012-2016.

The AL East will always be one of the most difficult divisions in the AL. Yankees and Red Sox will always spend, and the Rays are always a threat even with a low payroll.

It looks like the Orioles are planning to increase their payroll.

Imagine if Seattle fixes Kelenic (and Winker)

I'm curious to see what happens to the Yankees. If they lose Judge, then that team looks old and average in a hurry. Even Judge isn't that young, but at least he's an elite player. They really can't afford to lose him.

Judge regresses somewhat in 2023 IMO. He probably goes back to being a 5 WAR player. Doubt he puts up another 8+ WAR season given his age and injury history though who knows. He's definitely capable of putting up special seasons like he did in 2017 and this season.

If the Yankees win a World Series, I could see them paying him whatever he wants. If Yankees get bounced in the ALDS, they likely let him walk.

I think Winker rebounds with the bat next season. Still only 28 and has a .340 OBP despite him being awful this season.

After the first two teams it's pretty even honestly. But White Sox have some major flaws/holes.

Yup true, definitely a disappointing season for them. Larussa gone indefinitely is probably the best improvement they could have.

IF Judge walks (I think he will) then they’ll definitely go hard after someone like Correa or Trea Turner. Could definitely see Turner in pinstripes next year. Let the Yanks and Os drive up the prices for each other haha

Spencer Strider just broke Atlanta's all-time single-game record with his 16th strikeout, besting John Smoltz in the process.

No walks and two hits allowed.

Enjoy this large helping of tweets to breakdown Spencer's feat:

And here's a little game film that I pretty strongly feel accurately illustrates his strikeouts tonight:

Yup:

If you had to choose one - Fried, Strider or Wright - which one?

Strider definitely

The Braves are insane now.

Fried-Wright-Strider-Morton-Odorizzi

Anderson-Soroka-Muller-Shuster in the minors

Acuna

Swanson

Riley

Albies

Olson

Harris II

Grissom

d'Arnaud / Contreras

Only apparent short term thin spot is the outfield corners in 2022. Rosario and Grossman blow; Acuna has not been handling a corner every day.

I think their only core players reaching FA this offseason are Swanson, Morton, Kenley Jansen

Morton likely will come back on a one-year deal. Jansen can be replaced or brought back again on a short term/high AAV contract. Swanson will be tough to replace though Vaughn Grissom can likely fill in with the bat, though not sure he can stick long term at shortstop.

They can find another corner OF during the offseason. Easy to upgrade over Rosario and Grossman.

Braves definitely have built a sustainable winner for this decade. If their core players and arms stay healthy, I'm sure they can win another World Series or two.

And their payroll is not even top 5. I think it's like 8th or 9th this year and might only creep up a bit next year.

Rougned Odor bat flipped a fly ball out last night. Very in character for him.

Given his talent level not striking out is worthy of a celebration I guess. It's pathetic though because he's out there throwing haymakers for bat flipping on huge home runs and he pimps everything from his singles to fly outs. He's scum.
