Baseball. Unfortunately we have 68 wins and the Astros have banked 81. They can afford these kinds of strange outcomes. Less so for us. We need to take advantage of Rays and M losses, Especially against the Angels. Ohtani was great but Angels not exactly known for their pitching lol. We did zero against a very middle of the road pen arm for last 6 outs. Need a W today.

You said it perfectly. Teams like the Yankees, Dodgers and Astros already have a lot of wins in the bank and can afford to have a string of losses at this point in the season. The Blue Jays aren't in that position because of their inconsistency until this point. If the Blue Jays want to make the Postseason, they can't be losing games against .500 teams and they can't afford to lose series, plain and simple. Would be a shame if the Blue Jays miss out on the Postseason by one or two games.

Again.

We have to play .600 ball the rest of the schedule to get 90 W's. Less than 2021 total. I have to say I hoped we would never be in this position, but not totally surprised. Lots of fans overlooked how many freakishly good seasons we had on the team last year.

Any way you slice it losing a series in late August at home to the Angels is very disappointing.

There’s also the extra playoff spot, which SHOULD help. Missing the playoffs again this year after being projected as a borderline top 5 team going in would be absolutely embarrassing.

For sure. I think we will make it, but I don't want to just make the playoffs. A quick exit in an away wildcard series, for example, would not make me view this as a successful step forward season. Especially given the new playoff spot. Thats just me. Maybe unrealistic expectations, but I feel we missed an even better opp last year (a fixable one in the pen) and I cant get over that lol.

Ray was replaced by Gaussman, Semien by Chapman.

Believe it or not in terms of fWAR Chapman and Gaussman are on track to beat them. It seems unbelievable but Chapman and Gaussman have 8.4 fWAR with 37 games to go. Semien and Ray had 10.1 last year.

In my opinion the collapse of Berrios/Kikuchi/Ryu hurt the most. I think Berrios weird good luck in terms of record, and Gaussman's weird bad luck has masked this.

Imagine Gaussman and Berrios's luck was reversed? Gausman would be 14-2 or something and Berrios 4-12 and the narrative would be that Berrios's collapse tanked the season.

I agree, playoffs and a first round exit would be disappointing.

Man I love this. Good on that guy for grinding and finally making it. Tells you a lot about what kind of guy he is.

A three game series is a coin flip...

They can't make the playoffs without playing better than Baltimore over the next 4 weeks and being able to handle Tampa Bay.

So IF they make the playoffs by definition they've proven they are about as good as the other wild card teams, and it's a coin flip.

If they make the playoffs the season will feel like a success because they at least didn't totally fall apart after some tough stretches.

If they don't make the playoffs it will feel like a complete failure.

The scenario where they win the division and are one of the best teams in baseball able to have a bye and an actual significant advantage in the playoffs has already sailed.

Given the hype around this team before the season? I would agree that it would be a disappointment. But after watching this team play all season? Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they are bounced in the WC round.

At this point I'm hoping Seattle gets the 1st WC (I never want the Rays to host a playoff series in that dump) while the Jays get the 3rd WC. I'll take my chances facing the Guardians in the WC round as they are just as inexperienced, if not more so, than the Jays are, and less talented than Seattle/Tampa. If the Jays can't win that series, then they clearly were never good enough. At this rate, even though the playoffs are a crapshoot, I'd still bet money on the M's and Rays beating the Jays in the WC round even if the games were at RC.

Pretty awesome stuff for a guy taken in the 35th round.

Doubt it was the best series of the year, maybe a solid #2 though.

Any scoring in the bottom of the turd innng?

I wonder what kind of movement on the bases resulted in the runs?

Brownie, need you to chime in here….

Oakland A's have dipped below 10,000 per game in attendance and it's trending steadily downward. Photos of stands during a game last month:

That's impressively terrible.

that doesn't even look like 1000 people

Or even 500. Not a good look for a team that pretty much doubled it's season ticket prices this year.
