I think he's going to continue to struggle. Pretty sure he was a heavy user of sticky stuff. I remember he used to rub his shiny forearm a lot.

I've wondered for a while before today's debacle: why is Rafael Dolis in the Major Leagues?

I heard the Jays are sticking to the projections which for some mythical reason make Dolis look like a decent average pitcher. When they wake to reality he will be flying out of here

Yesterday I spoke with Rafael Dolís's uncle. I told him that Dolís is horribly awful this year. He told me that Dolís is considering going back to Japan.

The Jays would know, or at least have a good idea, if any of their pitchers are/were sticky stuff users wouldn't they?

If Dolis was and quit using it maybe it's time to put the guy out to pasture. Same with Chatwood. These guys struggle to throw strikes at the best of times, and now when they actually get it in the zone their pitches are way more hittable.

If this is the case we have to stop trotting them out there and costing us games. Take them away from Charlie, Shatkins, same as you did with Panik.

He should stop considering it and pull the trigger.

Yeah, perhaps he was a big sticky stuff guy

This makes a lot of sense.

Yeah feels like there’s an extreme disconnect between the front office and the coaching staff right now.

- Springer injury situation

- Trading Panik just so Charlie will stop using him

- Atkins’ insistence on keeping Chatwood and Dolis on the roster even though they seem to be big victims of the sticky crackdown (this should have been conveyed to the FO by the coaching staff if true)

- Releasing McGuire only for Charlie to start using him over Jansen

- The entire Giles situation (Charlie using him 3 days in a row and getting injured just before the trade deadline. FO should have told him they were planning a trade so don’t f***ing injure him)

I’m sure im missing a bunch of other things too

Some of this is dumb.

They were right to waive McGuire when they did, and now McGuire had earned this bump in playing time (while Jansen deserves his demotion). These are isolated events.

Releasing Chatwood and Dolis makes no sense. The relievers replacing them would not be any better and both at least have a chance to right the ship and be useful. If health plus reinforcements bumps either of them off the team the great, but we are a long way from that happening.

I don't think they traded Panik to take him away from Charlie. They traded for a reliever and what they hope is an eventual upgrade on Panik. That's all there is to it.

I can agree with you on McGuire, but I definitely disagree with you on your other points.

How can you say that with a straight face?

The best way to get Dolis back on the right track is to use him in high leverage situations late in games. Especially against the Red Sox and Rays. Use pitchers like Romano when the score is 6-1. When it's a close game? Against a division rival ahead of you in the standings? Doleese time.

I know you're not going to like this idea, but bring up the beard!

But don't you know you're only allowed to use your best reliever when already leading? The amount of the lead doesn't matter either, it's just too upsetting to the natural rhythm of the closer to pitch in a game where your team is behind in the score.

Dolis was passable in late innings in 2020 so that makes him a lock to be good in 2021. Even though he just came back from injury. And has been f***ing terrible this season. And has been injured multiple times already. And potentially has to readjust to no longer being able to use grip enhancers/sticky stuff. If the need is great enough for a reliever to be good for your team you just need to keep throwing him into leverage situations and hope for good things to happen. It's the power of positivity, wishing for good things to happen even though they are almost assuredly are not going to happen. In the world of Charlie Montoyo this is tactical managing 101.

Part of me wishes Montoya was clever enough to put guys like Dolis and Chatwood in games knowing they were going to s*** the bed just to force management to acquire better talent. But no...that is not why he does it...

We just acquired possibly our most reliable setup man for Joe Panik. Pretty scary all around.

That's absolutely pathetic that Chapman with all his natural talent, including the ability to throw 100+ mph would need to use sticky stuff to give himself even more of an edge. What a piece of s***.

I'm pretty sure he's been using it for years. He'd always have stuff on his neck.

Just for sh!ts and giggles I would like to see Dolis stay on the mound between pitches, get the signal from the catcher and throw.

Sometimes when something seems too good it returns to norm.

Dolis was a great find from the dumpster. He is again a dumpster level pitcher.
