RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Whoa, this is the perfect move. I like it more than Bryant for sure. It would, I assume, cost way less. Get this guy and Taylor Rogers from the Twins and that is a good trade deadline. Should be able to get Escobar for a prospect in the 13-20 range. Maybe semm roberese or Eric Pardino
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 There never seems to be much said about the liability at short stop. Because Bichette grades out as about an average defender? Sure he makes mistakes here and there, but he's also 23, AND as I said before about average.

Maybe semm roberese or Eric Pardino Pardinho, the forgotten kid with great mechanics. 4Ks 1 hit, 0 walks in 3 innings this year since coming back. I hope we don't trade Pardinho for an expiring Escobar. He's got the talent to be one our best prospects this time next year.

Ehh middling stuff, no projectibility, coming off TJ, still in the low minors, kids years away from the bigs. Seems like the guy we should be including in any deal.

If not a starter, projects as a high leverage reliever.

Seems like the guy we should be including in any deal. Middling stuff? You must have read different reports than me. He was a kid throwing low 90s with exceptional command of his fastball at age 18. He's only 20 now, so the fact that he's low minors isn't such a big deal. It's not like he's 23 or 24. I read reports that said he had a curveball that flashed plus at times, but needed some polishing and a changeup that was the pitch he needed to work on the most. Scouts love his delivery. I think you're underselling him. After all the walks I've seen from Jays pitchers this year, I'm not trading a kid who can command the fastball unless it's something a lot better than an expiring Escobar.

If not a starter, projects as a high leverage reliever. He was pitching for Lansing which would say is low minors before he got hurt. He's probably gonna spend the rest of the season in Dunedin which is the equivalent of Lansing now. He had hype when he was 18 in full season ball which is special but now coming off TJ hes still young but nothing special as far as age/level. And as for his actual talent as a pitcher he's very meh all all way around, he's probably got a realistic ceiling as a swing man ala stripling. He needs to develop some killer secondaries or gain like 3 mph to profile as a even a high leverage reliever like you said.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 Like Osuna, I was a big fan of Pardinho ever since the Jays were first tied to him. Looked at the time like they got another Stroman on their hands. Now that he's gotten the TJS out of the way, I could see him climb quickly.

Since when is a low 90s fastball anything to get excited about? Even 15 years ago that's a meh fastball. And like you said his secondaries need work. Yes he's got pitchability which will allow him some success even potentially in the big leagues, but his ceiling is very limited. His body doesn't have much growth left so it's really hard to see him gaining velocity. So he's gonna have to develop some plus secondaries.

Pitchers coming off TJS typically are throwing 3-4 mph less then 6 months further on. Pardinho will be throwing mid 90s FB with very good command next year in the upper minors.

You must have missed the elite command. Elite fastball command is absolutely something to get excited about.

Elite fastball command is absolutely something to get excited about. It's quite silly to suggest that a kid who's peak so far was pitching 33 innings in Low-A has "elite command". Pardinho certainly looked good from that standpoint prior to his injury, but Rusty is right: the stuff itself wasn't incredibly impressive, and something like "elite command" is only attributable at the MLB level. I'm interested to see what the reports are post-TJ.

Elite fastball command is absolutely something to get excited about. Players with elite or even good command do NOT have the BB/9 and K/BB numbers that Pardinho has posted in the minors. Look at what Chris Paddack did in the minors if you want an actual reference point for plus command down there. IIRC when people used to talk about Pardinho as being "advanced" it was more of a reference to his feel for spin and the fact that he had multiple viable pitches at such a young age. Also people liked his mechanics and delivery. With decent command layered in. So more of a total package thing - he just ticked a lot of boxes.

Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Does Joey Gallo fit on this team? Grichuk, cash and a couple of prospects?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2021 Author Posted July 17, 2021 Berríos likely not being traded.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Does Joey Gallo fit on this team? Grichuk, cash and a couple of prospects? I think so. Would be an upgrade this year and next and would give us a power lefty bat
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Does Joey Gallo fit on this team? Grichuk, cash and a couple of prospects? Gallo would be awesome. He would require some serious prospect capital going back the other way though. Grichuk wouldn't be of much interest to the Rangers as they are rebuilding, but I wouldn't hesitate moving out Gurriel or Biggio as MLB pieces.

It would lessen our prospect capital greatly if he were in the offer. Biggio has a ton of value. Could easily be a 4 WAR + player in his current form because of the OBP & baserunning value alone. I would do that trade and then re-sign Semien in the OS, and grab a 1Y plug for 3B until one of Martin/Groshans forces their way to the majors to take the position. Then you trade 1 of Gurriel/Teo/Gallo for a large return, when whichever of Groshans/Martin transitions to the OF and hits their way up. We're in a really great place to be for sure.

Does Texas need a catcher, there is one piece if they do

But with Gallo, we'd have too many OFs. So maybe LGJ would go...and Grichuk remains the 4th OF. Gallo > LGJ, but it becomes a way smaller improvement IMO, and maybe not worth it. Does Texas need a catcher?
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I would say Texas does need a catcher. But is Gallo actually on the block? He's a star who helps on both sides of the ball. They would want a lot.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Gallo would be a great add. A left handed power bat who is also decent in the field too. Gurriel, Jansen and a top 10 prospect? I wonder if the FO would have any reservations moving any of these young core players? They all seem so tight with each other.

Gallo's half season results in 2019 (he was injured to end 2019) and 2021 each basically match the WAR output for Gurriel's entire career. Gallo is a player capable of producing 140 WRC+ offense while providing plus defense in the outfield. Gurriel looks like one of baseballs best hitters when he goes on a hot streak, but he's frustratingly inconsistent to the point where he can quickly become a sub-replacement level player when he goes on one of his extended cold streaks. He's somehow gotten far worse in the outfield in 2021 than he displayed in 2020 to the point where he's become a defensive liability. Adding Gallo to the outfield is a massive upgrade, the defense is improved dramatically, and a much needed quality left handed bat is added to the lineup.

But I would like a upgrade at 3B, probably a rental, before the Gallo upgrade. Both, and then Cruz would make this absolutely the best lineup the Jays have ever had.
