TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2021 Author Posted January 26, 2021 Not a chance Semien is hitting 9th. He probably slots in 5th or 6th. Oh, I know. But my lineup isn't based on what Montoyo will do. It's how I'd build it. Montoyo's lineup will look nothing like mine.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 Not a chance Semien is hitting 9th. He probably slots in 5th or 6th. Yes, maybe. Every one of those lineup guys projects to be above average hitter, with the exception of Jansen who projects to be average (I expect more from him). With this lineup, as I mentioned a few weeks ago, an innings eater like Porcello could win 15 games.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 1. Springer 2. Biggio 3. Bichette 4. Hernandez 5. Semien 6. Gurriel 7. Vladdy 8. Tellez / Grichuk 9. Jansen / Kirk Now go get Bauer, or one of Paxton/Odirizzi and let's this season started.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Springer CF Bo SS Semien 2B/3B Skinny Vlad 1B Hernandez DH/RF Gurriel LF Grichuk/Tellez RF/DH Jansen C Biggio 3B/2B Springer has been a leadoff guy for too long so I wouldn't mess with what's been working. I'm not sure who would go in the 3 hole but the fact it won't be Grichuk this year is awesome lol. Having Biggio last is more to setup the top of the order.

Dude just bet on himself to get a longer term contract next year. He can put up 40 HRs potentially assuming we are back in Toronto. I think he bats 3rd after Springer and Bo. 5th at worst.

I'd like to see 2 starters added to that. And if there's any way we can fire Roark into the sun, make it happen.

That rotation is barf worthy as currently constructed lol. Crazy how much adding Bauer would change all that. I don't think it's happening but we need a player of that calibre eventually, whether it be at the trade deadline or next offseason. I think we'll add Paxton/Odorizzi/Walker for now.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Why does the rest of the baseball world value Gurriel's bat more than our fan base? Gurriel has improved himself into being a solid everyday bat. You can't realistically expect 2019 Simien (hopefully somewhere in between 2019 and his career numbers), so I would value Gurriel's bat higher as of now. Springer CF Bichette SS Gurriel LF Hernandez RF Vladdy 1B/DH Simien 2B Tellez 1B/DH Kirk/Jansen C Biggio 3B Bench.. Davis, Grichuk, Espinal, (Jansen/Kirk) DFA Fisher (please and f*** the fact that Davis has an option). We actually have a lot of good baseball players on this team now, no room for low IQ types like Fisher to wrinkle things.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Not many here believe in "The Book" structure? This is why Gurriel makes sense batting third.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 (edited) This is why Gurriel makes sense batting third. I'd have him hit 3rd, him or Teo. Biggio Bichette Gurriel Springer Vladdy Semien 7 through 9 you can intertwine, strong bottom of the order, regardless. Edited January 27, 2021 by Spanky99

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 What do you guys think the Semien and Springer signings do for our bench? I think we all agree that one spot is Grichuk/Tellez and the other is a catcher. As for the other two (or three) spots, we have a lot of flexibility with a competent SS in Semien and a competent CF in Grichuk playing other positions. I like Espinal and Davis as options, but perhaps now we can look at veteran players with a little more bat, while preserving those two as minor league depth. Looking through the free agent list, I see names like Jedd Gyorko, Daniel Murphy, Marwin Gonzalez, Todd Frazier, Matt Joyce, Josh Reddick. Maybe some could be had on minor league deals and maybe not, but I would be interested in that type of player for our bench.

Who is the next cut? We still have to cut one for Semien

Yennsy Diaz - probably gets claimed but do we care? Ty Tice - completely replaceable, may not even get claimed I think they'll find cash buyers for a couple of these guys, maybe Yennsy and SRF.

Am I missing something with Josh Palacios? Why is he never talked about as a guy that might get cut? He seems like "org filler" from the stat line, is he THAT good a CF? Does his solid OBP translate exceptionally well or something?

Maybe because he hasn't failed in the majors yet and because he's often forgotten about? Could be a combination of both.

He could get cut too, but three options makes him more valuable IMO than some other guys right now. And no, I don't think he's even a surefire CF. Might just be a fringe CF with some hitting skills, decent speed, average raw power. Tweener.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Id be interested in guys like Jed Lowrie, Assdribble, or even bringing Panik back. I think if they upgrade the bench it needs to be a left handed hitter who can play second and third.
