Yeah man, his ISO/Slugging is off the charts, and he's now becoming a prominent SP, he's a f***ing Alien.

Imagine if he plays the OF next year, lol, like he wants to.. Sick!

I would absolutely love to see it, but is their any concern about having to use his arm in the outfield on a regular basis and how that would be risky for his pitching? I can see that being a reason to not put him out there, even though his numbers could be insane.

I have no doubt he'd be a decent fielder. He's got the speed obviously. If he was in the outfield this season he could be on pace for like an 11-12 WAR season. Literally one of the 20 greatest seasons (by fWAR) all time. Even without those numbers if he finishes the season at the pace he's played it's one of the all time greatest seasons ever.

No, long toss is normal with SP's, not much different aside from knowing he has a rocket.

I would’ve thought “squad” would be a positive word association around these parts….

Also, speaking of “suck ass”, was the decision to allow pop up ads a group one, or singular?

It’d be understandable if he put on a little bit. The off-season workouts are going to burn way more calories than he will playing baseball. I doubt it’ll effect him much. He wasn’t going to sustain being the greatest hitter ever. 1.000+ OPS to finish the season is just fine

He should be eating less than when he was weightlifting though. Most MLB position players don't gain noticeable weight over the season. Diet is definitely the culprit here.

He lost 40 lbs over the off-season. That is not possible unless you are on a caloric deficit.

Also on the topic of whether or not Vlad has put on weight, I think alot of people overestimate their ability to determine someone's weight with their shirt on.

He looks pretty skinny in that pic above. I think obviously he is going to gain some weight during the season because he lost so much and hasn't been able to do the long workouts. Stills looks pretty great to me in terms of weight

Sure but it's understandable that his diet / habits / weight would regress a little bit.

Changing habits like that is hard and most of the time it's not actually a cold turkey or switch flip thing. I think most people that make big changes that stick probably go through a series of little regressions but they are able to dig in and get back on track.

You know, you see lots of people flip a switch and get in shape over a series of months but a good number of them just slowly gain the weight back over time.

This offseason will be the big test. Does he bear down again and come into camp in even better shape, or does he rest on his good season and come in + lbs?

A significant caloric deficit diet isn't sustainable long term, and I assume that is what Vlad was on this off-season because there really is no other way to shed 20+ lbs in such a short period of time. Even staying at a maintenance calorie intake is probably hard for a guy who is used to consuming X calories during a major league season and thus some weight gain is to be expected as you said. More lasting and meaningful body shifts take longer than one season to accomplish, it requires a lifestyle change and time.

I wish I read this before posting, you summarized my thoughts only better.

FUN fact:

The Blue Jays are 8 games above .500. They're 4th in the AL East.

The Mets are 4 games above .500. They're 1st in the NL East.

Nothing about this is fun to me.

How about the fact that the Blue Jays have a +114 run differential and are in 4th place and the Mets have a -11 run differential and are winning their division?

Isn't that fun?

Since Vlad has amassed 5.2 WAR so far, has a 1.062 OPS, is a threat for the triple crown, actually runs really well and is doing a solid job at 1B I don't think I'm ready to start questioning if he's gained some weight back or not.

It's funny how since our manager of the year decided to rest Vladdy for game, Vlad has only put up a .700 OPS in the 4 games he's been back, possibly his worst stretch of 4 games all season and almost instantly some numb nut comes in questioning Vladdy's fitness again.

Also if you just look at the general standings across the league, the position of teams in each division pretty much lines up with highest to lowest run differential (except a few cases but even then the numbers are close).... except the Blue Jays and the Braves.

The Jays run differential is 100 points higher than the 3rd place Yankees who are ahead of them in standings. About 70 higher than the Redsox. 10 higher than the first place Rays.

Vladdy wasn't going to play 162 games, and y'know... sample sizes like this have zero value.
