lol Tommy Milone pitched for the Bisons today. Of course...

Of all the pitchers on the goddamn IL that you can't wait to get back, of course he's the first one to come back.

Actually, Murphy was the first to come back. I don't think Milone makes it back to our roster, to be honest. Who would they DFA? Bergen?

I'd say Beasley would be the most likely guy to DFA out of everyone on the roster. I fail to see what situation would warrant bringing Milone back though. Where does he even fit? As a mediocre longman? I have nightmare visions of Charlie declaring him as a high leverage type of arm. He could be like the left handed version of late inning destroyer Sam Gaviglio.

When Merryweather, Borucki, Hatch come back...who goes down?

That's not hard to answer. Three of Saucedo, Murphy, Payamps, and Barnes will head out. I think the first three can be optioned so maybe Barnes survives.

But odds are other people will get hurt in the interim

I'd guess either Saucedo or Kay would likely be the first guy sent packing back to AAA since they both have options. I'm guessing Barnes would have to pass through waivers first and the organization doesn't like throwing away assets, so he would likely be the last guy to go. The front office keeps insisting Hatch is going to remain as a starter, but the more bullpen meltdowns we see the softer this stance is going to become. It already sounded like Atkins's (should this still be Atkins, Akinseses or something) armor is starting to crack a little.

Atkins'

A possessive that isn't plural just needs an apostrophe.

The answer is the 3 other bullpen arms that get hurt in the process plus Merryweather who goes back to the IL for whatever you can think of lol

Looking back on it, Shatkins really built a good rotation with relatively little:

Ryu: Below market deal for a top of the rotation starter given his age and injury history. But I think credit needs to be given to Shatkins for their due diligence and buying into Ryu's success and relative health as a function of his new routines heading into the 2019 season.

Ray: Acquired for Travis Bergen...who we got back anyways. And then resigned on a team friendly deal.

Stripling: Gave up 1 decent prospect (Kendall Williams, who isn't exactly lighting the world on fire and is going to be a long-term project).

Matz: Gave up Reid-Foley and Yennsy Diaz, who are as fungible relievers as one can get, replaced them with Castro and Payamps. Josh Wincowski is interesting, but I don't think they were planning on protecting him on the 40-man anyways.

Ray (and maybe Matz depending on how he performs in the 2nd half) could be QO'd. Still one more cost-controlled year of Stripling.

What a boss!

Agreed but we still need at least 1 more top end pitcher that we'd be confident putting out there in the playoffs. Then we need to work the same magic for the bullpen and our team is complete.

They did the same thing in Cleveland and I brought that up repeatedly.

They did leave Cleveland the same year the team took the next big step in 2016 for the record lol. Now they put us in a great spot and let's hope they can put us over the hump by making the final few required additions.

I'm sure we'll get there. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up splurging on a Berrios or German Marquez this summer actually.

We don't need to really work the magic on the bullpen. Just need to get Borucki and Merryweather healthy. The bullpen is good, just ravaged by injuries at the moment.

I don't think you can ever rely on him to throw more than like 20 innings a season

Going out and getting a guy like Taylor from the Twins would be a nice add.

Gives you another high end lefty out of the pen to guard against Borucki's injury woes, and if Borucki is healthy it gives a solid 1-2 lefty punch with a guy like Mayza as depth. Plus he's under control for next season too.

I'd also like to see the Jays go out and add a legit closer too. Romano has been awesome, but two closers is better than one, and if you ever have a healthy Merryweather too, then your bullpen is suddenly disgustingly good and deep.

Rely? No.

Hope? Definitely.

Hoping he at least ends up giving us 1-2 seasons of healthy production while we're actively in the peak of our competitive cycle. Kind of like how Brandon Morrow was a key piece for the 2017 Dodgers.

Brandon Morrow is really the perfect comparison. Merryweather is basically Brandon Morrow if Brandon Morrow, for some weird reason, didn't get called up to the majors until he was 28.

Romano

Taylor/Garcia

Merryweather

Pearson

Borucki

5th Starter (typically not required in the playoffs)

Mayza

Castro

Chatwood

Obviously there are some big questions marks there, but that pen has potential to be dominant in the playoffs IMO.

The Padres and Jays are teaming up on social media to encourage both fanbases to vote for each other's players in the All-Star game.

Peak Brandon Morrow was really fun, even if it only lasted for like a second.

Tonight's lineup:

1. Marcus Semien ® 2B

2. Bo Bichette ® SS

3. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ® 1B

4. Teoscar Hernandez ® RF

5. George Springer ® CF

6. Cavan Biggio (L) 3B

7. Randal Grichuk ® DH

8. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ® LF

9. Reese McGuire (L) C

I understand resting guys at DH, but we should really be putting our best defense on the field as much as possible.

I feel like I haven’t even seen the Teo-Springer-Grich alignment in the outfield yet.

Reaaaaly should have put Grisham on that image instead of Grichuk.

Whoever made the call to put Grichuk on that poster should be fired.

Wouldn't SD look at that and say WTF? Machado, Cronenworth, Grisham should be on that over Grichuk and even Teo.

The graphic only shows players that made it to phase two of All-Star voting. Tatis was the only Padre to make it and, as a result, Grisham isn't eligible to be voted on at this point.

Otherwise, Cronenworth would be an even bigger snub than Grisham.

They included all of the players that made it to phase two between both teams. The Jays have 5 guys that qualified for phase two voting and the Padres only have one. You literally can't vote for the other guys you mentioned.
