Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 I don't live in Canada, but man that sounds like a s*** show. Some baseball stadiums are allowing full capacity now. The NBA playoffs are in front of packed arenas. Yet the Jays maybe, possibly, if everything goes right, might get to play in Toronto some time in August with no guarantee of how many fans will even be allowed in, combined with whatever quarantining rules they'll force on the players (which they'll say no to). What a mess. The USA got to the point where everyone who wanted two shots got them, so they opened up. We haven't gotten to that point yet, but likely will around the start of August. The government is doing exactly what they should be on that front. I would suspect that only fully vaccinated people will be allowed across the border in either direction. It'll be up to MLB to decide what to do with that.

What a mess. I would assume any return to Toronto would coincide closely with the border opening up. I can't imagine the border would open up but MLB teams can't cross, that doesn't make any sense. I guess in theory they could open the border up to vaccinated Canadians to travel back and forth without quarantine only. I would assume every MLB team still has unvaccinated players and personnel. Current border restrictions are in place until July 21st at the earliest.
philly30 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Man, big news day. Atkins optimistic they'll be back in Toronto at some point. Lots to work through first. Doesn't he always say pretty much the same thing

MLB needs to do what the NFL is doing, make life as bad as they can for the unvaccianted, No unvaccianted player should be allowed to cross even state lines

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Is he replacing Tabby? You don't like 31 year olds, let alone 38 year olds who haven't played in 3 years. I said we should sign Axford. I said it mostly in jest. I didn't think he will improve our bullpen, but I didn't think he would make it worse so the beard was the deciding factor for me. I didn't actually think they would sign him.

Are all the NHL Players that came in to play Montreal vaccinated? I suspect if we want baseball in Toronto we will to compromise for the 10% or so that will be unvaccinated. Negative test to enter, and restrictions away from ballpark + daily testing while here. I can't see MLBPA forcing vaccinations, and teams won't come here if they can't bring all their players.

They can make it a rule that it’s in the interest of their business and brand that any player must be fully vaccinated. Players can chose not be vaccinated and not play and not get paid and opt out.

That is not going to happen though. They are not going to just drop Anthony Rizzo and Jayson Heyward because they won't get vaccinated. There will be no games in Toronto if a vaccination passport is required. There is a difficult conversation coming unfortunately... The choices are 1) Negative test required for the 10% of unvaccinated players to enter Canada. 2) or No games in Toronto

I know we are not suppose to get political... but this is baseball related and hopefully as long as we don't call each other ass-morons, we can discuss the conditions under which the team can return to Toronto. Serious question, is it legal to void a contract or suspend without pay because of vaccination status? I can't see it is. How do you implement this rule? Will the owner of the Cubs or other team with unvaccinated players agree to such a rule, that can hurt their team, just to play in Toronto? Will the players union? What need do they have to play in Toronto? Maybe they couldn't care less and the best solution for them, is simply don't play in Toronto. We are the ones who will have to make a concession if we want baseball in Toronto, most players and owners don't care, only us. A reasonable concession will simply be negative test to enter, + reasonable restrictions while here for unvaccinated players. I don't see any other solution.

Since they are basically allowing full capacity at a lot of the stadiums a few months before we are that should give a us a good indication on the advocacy of the vaccines and the spread of Covid.

InvincibleTiger Verified Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Any idea who the starting pitchers are for the Marlins 2 game series? All I know is the Marlins staff is robust, so will be tough going.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 I swear to god if this retard bats springer lower than grichuk... He'll be after Panik so Charlie can put together a nice RHB LHB RHB of Grichuk, Panik, Springer...

InvincibleTiger Verified Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Hopefully Matz with his career numbers vs Marlins
ShowtimeBelli Verified Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Full capacity in Buffalo allowed. Great. Now we get to watch a sell out crowd cheer against us rather than a limited capacity crowd.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Hopefully Matz with his career numbers vs Marlins Matz is isolated in Covid till Wednesday. He ain't pitching it's going to be a spot starter again. Actually, we just had a day off today, should be Robbie Ray then.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 With the off day today maybe the Jays will just skip his spot this time through. Yup. He's been isolated in a room for 10 days, no way he pitches. It'll be Ray.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 With the Yankees, sure. But who else will travel to Buffalo? Red Sox fans? Although they traveled pretty well to Toronto too but obviously nowhere near the levels to what we saw in Buffalo.

You'd have more Blue Jays fans there if they weren't killing people on the price of tickets and concessions. Tickets for the Yankees games were going for upwards of $249 dollars per ticket. Only Yankees fans are dumb enough to buy at that price. The Blue Jays also raised the price of concessions, a beer is now going for $18. When its not the Yankees or Red Sox, Blue Jays fans will be willing to go to the games. But no way am I paying $249 for a seat.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Oh, never heard this... Injury Report Eligible to return on Sat Jun 26 - Covid-19. Latest News Jun 20, 8:40 PM EDT EDT Matz could be available to return from the COVID-19 injured list this week if he's negative for the virus when he gets tested again Wednesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Analysis Since going into quarantine last weekend after testing positive for the virus, Matz has resumed throwing on his own in attempt to remain stretched out for starting duty while he's on the IL. Matz has reportedly built up to 70 pitches in his most recent throwing session, so he could be an option to make his return to the rotation as soon as Wednesday in Miami if he clears all COVID-19-related protocols.
