Ken doesn't blindly follow anyone for anything. Not Hazel f***ing Mae. I don't think he would report on this without having heard something himself.

Exactly, so this isn't on Hazel, it's on everyone. The most credible MLB media out there confirmed/cosigned it. Not sure what that means. Maybe they hit a snag somewhere.

Wtffffff... don't go back on this now man

It's over bro. It was supposed to be Bradley and not Brantley and now the Jays are in full panic mode that someone leaked the wrong player.

I honestly think it's just semantics

Physical not reviewed yet or the agreement is there but details remain. I think 95% likely the Jays are still signing him.

The question remains. If they sign Brantley how long will it take to announce a deal for pitching? An hour or two tops? I would love it to be grichuk, but it’s probably two or gurrieil.

Not like old Kenny to jump the Gun..... If i am a betting man i am guessing that it is close to done but not yet. If Ken is reporting something there must be a little fire.

Could be a couple of things going on:

1. The person who leaked the info was wrong!

2. They have agreed in principle on the important points and are just still formalizing the minor stuff, so nothing has been signed yet.

3. They have signed the agreement but it is still conditional. By this I mean not conditional on passing a physical - conditional on something else that a team would not want known. I wonder if MLB teams ever make a contract conditional for a couple of days on satisfying themselves that they can find an adequate trade for a player made redundant by the signing? You can kind of sense that this is the case when a team makes a couple of transactions that seem connected - perhaps they were literally connected.

Would be hilarious if this deal fell through, but I wouldn’t mind too much. Brantley is kinda overkill and unnecessary, pitching is more important

If Jays officials were so poised to shoot down the rumors, there’s prob a last hurdle to get over. If it was just mere formalities or just pending physical, not sure they’d get the big guys to backtrack

Still will prob get done though and the original news breaker will still get the boss treatment

One thing to remember about Michael Brantley's negotiations with the Blue Jays: Because of his medical history, the whole 'pending a physical' caveat carries more meaning. So it makes sense for both sides to tamp down suggestions of an agreement until he gets through that.

Would you rather...if the contract is for 3 years

Brantley

Ozuna

Turner

I'm not sure you could go wrong with any of the three at the same price. All three have risk, but none would be franchise crippling.

I think less important than conditioning the deal on the trade itself, i.e. the redundancy created by having Brantley along with Grichuk, Gurriel and Teoscar, is the 40-man roster situation. If they officially sign Brantley then they might be forced to make the move now whereas it becomes a lot easier to do this once a trade has happened.

True, Brantley was glass man until his tenure with the Astros

I'm guessing it's all but officially done and they're waiting for a trade to go through.

Would be kinda awkward to sign Brantley while we have 4 starting calibre OF in Grichuk, Teoscar, Springer, and Gurriel. You then would have 5 OF with the forgone conclusion that someone absolutely will be dealt.

edit: sure enough, that is what Rosenthal is apparently saying:

100% Ozuna for me. He's by far the youngest of the three so should provide the most years of prime production. He also has the highest ceiling of the 3 as well. Turner would be nice in that infield is still a need, but I don't think he's likely to be very good 2 years from now given his advanced age.

It's funny that they feel they need to go through this song and dance. Everyone knows what's happening. I can't see a GM saying "Gosh...you're gonna be down an outfielder now, Russ. Too bad you couldn't get one more signed beyond Springer. I'll guess we'll have to up the ante to pry player X away from you."

If Toronto announces the hiring of Brantley, the value of Gurriel, Teo and Grichuk goes down a bit.

First the trade of one of those 3, and then the announcement of Brantley's deal. Atkins is a demiGod

So who gets traded?

Depends on who they're trying to get back. Can't see them getting a major piece using Grichuk as a focal piece...unless they add a significant prospect as well.

Exactly

Trade would have been already reached in principle

Jays are not only talking to Brantley but they’ve had an offer out to Brad Hand, and even after signing Chatwood and Yates may still be in on him, and are also considering starting pitchers.

There are going to be a lot of Jays fans giving themselves some hand if this ends up happening.
