We are now a hitter rich team. There are pitcher rich teams that need hitters. Blue Jays, meet the Marlins, Indians ,Pirates and Royals.

Three of those teams aren't pitcher rich at all.

Brantley might be mostly in line for DH.

He actually graded pretty well defensively last 2 years but yeah hes going to be 34-36 years old so likely will see his fair share of time at DH. Especially on the turf.

Rumors are Red Sox and Baltimore are talking to the Marlins about sending Benetendi and Santander respectively.. You know it will be pitching coming back.. We need to get in there ASAP and cock block them and get some of the Marlins pitching!!!

Did LG only play SS in the IF? I forget. I know he wasn’t doing good there but would 2b be a possibility?

Also played 2B. Maybe we see him get some work at 3B?

He did play SS and 2B a couple seasons ago. Honestly it would solve a lot of problems if Gurriel could take over at 3B...

He got the yips at second and couldn't make routine throws to first. I'd be worried about putting him back there and ruining him but it's possible that's behind him and he can play a passable/below-average 2B/3B now.

This is f***ing awesome. Probably makes Springer feel over the moon at home too. Trade for pitching incoming this is the best offseason in a long time

Unlike last tiime we went hard we haven't lost ANY of the great farm system

Grichuk, Gurriel, or Hernandez. One or more are certainly on the move. It's going to be interesting to see where.

He played a bit of 2B. IIRC he didn't seem to have the agility or the accuracy for any infield position. Perhaps he was better suited for 3B of all infield positions, which we never saw him play...

He's kind of a Jose Bautista player as far as defense goes. I could see him being able to play a passable 3B provided he doesn't actually have genetic yips.

Possibly none. We could see a setup like this most nights; Gurriel - Springer - Hernandez in the OF with Brantley at DH, Grichuk as the bench OFer.

That would be just fine. Playing time for Rowdy might be at a bit of a premium as Vladdy Jr. would obviously take precedence most games. Rowdy would make a nice option to have off the bench to pinch hit late in games when he's not in the starting lineup though.

This

With Vlad at 3rd and Tellez at 1st. Hold the fort down until Martin or Groshans are ready to play 3rd?

I mean that wouldn't be my first option, but it may be something they are considering.

Very expensive to have Grichuk as a bench player. Remember that Biggio can play OF too. It also doesn't make sense to trade him while eating his salary. For that reason, I see Teo or Gurriel being traded for SP help.

Or we unfortunately see Vlad at 3B for this year and Rowdy at 1B. If he shows up actually in shape let him have this year there, Groshans or Martin should come soon.

Gurriel certainly has the arm for 3B, maybe it was the short throw that gave him issues?

Holy f***. At this point there has to be close to 0 chance that a significant SP isn't acquired, either by trade or FA.

I'd bet a large Tim's that Gurriel would play better at 3B than Vlad in 2021

(not that I think it's necessarily the best solution but yeah...)

Would love his bat off the bench late in games but I think the roster spots will be given to a more versatile player that could play a cpl positions.

He's pricey for a 4th OF, but it's not a contract that the Jays NEED to move or do anything with, they've got a LOT of financial flexibility and don't need to make any moves (other than slashing some 40 man roster weight...)

With all our cheap young guys it makes sense. What's our other option, trade Grichuk and pay half his salary? Then sign a worse OF for a bench guy? Smarter to just keep Grichuk.

Grichuk is also a guy I'd be comfortable to have starting when injuries happen in the OF. No more having to rely on waiver quality injury fill-ins.

Idk. Seems they’re going for it. I won’t have an opinion on Brantley deal until the picture is complete with SP... but in any case they’re expecting playoffs and so I doubt $10m is going to dictate a meh player forcing anyone out

Either they really like who they get for LG or Teo, or they should move Gri for another bad contract at different position. If they don’t keep him I mean. Hopefully they don’t force a move

Lineup porn:

2B - Biggio

CF - Springer

SS - Bichette

RF - Brantley

1B - Guerrero Jr.

DH - Hernandez

LF - Gurriel

3B - ???

C - Kirk/Jansen

Grichuk/McGuire/Tellez/Espinal

That lineup is f***ing insane.
