Wander won't be called up until he's torching AAA.

 

If that's the case, if he's not torching AAA by mid July, he's likely not up until April 2022. Rays being the Rays.

No way the Rays are risking Wander being a Super 2 since that would mean paying someone more than the league minimum earlier than they have to.

Taylor Walls time, 50 FV and ready...

 

Selected out of Florida State University in the third round of the 2017 Draft, Walls has quickly developed into one of the most intriguing players in the Rays’ deep system, earning rave reviews from Tampa Bay officials and rival scouts alike. He climbed from Class A in 2018 to reach Double-A in ’19, then he spent the 2020 season in the Rays’ 60-man player pool working out at the club’s alternate training site in Port Charlotte, Fla.

 

Walls has moved quickly through the system due to his greatest strength: his defense. Widely considered the best defensive player at any position in the Rays’ Minor League system, he’s a plus defender at shortstop with great instincts, plenty of range thanks to his speed and first-step quickness, ideal fundamental skills and a strong arm. While Wander Franco is unquestionably baseball’s best prospect, many believed entering 2021 that Walls – the Rays’ Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and ’19 -- was their next-best MLB-ready option at shortstop if Willy Adames were traded or unable to play.

 

The switch-hitting Walls is a tough out, as he’s capable of grinding out at-bats with his patient approach. He walked more than he struck out in college, and he put together a .364 on-base percentage over his first three Minor League seasons. He has been a more productive hitter from the left side of the plate, utilizing an all-fields, line-drive approach that will occasionally allow him to tap into some home run power. Walls also added value on the bases during his first two full Minor League seasons, stealing 31 bases in 2018 and 28 in ’19. Although he’ll likely continue to work at second and third base to find paths to playing time in an organization loaded with talented middle infielders, Walls is a safe bet to remain at shortstop for the long haul as either an everyday player or above-average utility man.

It's just some bad luck, he's been ok. That being said, Seattle is where hitting prospects go to die. It wouldn't be surprising to see him struggle for a time.

He has a .271 xwOBA. He had one good game against Cleveland and it's been donuts since.

 

He's been kind of s*****, I wouldn't say it's bad luck.
