Ex Player Verified Member Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Lindor better hope collusion isnt still a real thing
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 The Springer deal looks like a bargain compared to what Lindor is asking.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) I thought "one year left on his deal, and going to expect a ludicrous contract" would mean the prospect capital wouldn't be that high. As soon as it was clear that I was wrong, I changed my tune on trading for him. My issue was not the prospect capital (Atkins hardly ever trades prospects so I wasn't worried there) but the contract extension + having to move the team's best player off SS at age 23. With Lindor being a PA rep, that should have been an immediate red flag to the Mets that an extension was either going to be insanely expensive (to help the players) or impossible because he'd want to test the market to maximize money. I still don't think it was a bad deal for the Mets necessarily. Use him for a year, maximize 2021 wins, qualify him, and then get a very good SS for less (one of Correa/Baez/Story) in free agency. If that's the worst case, it's not bad. It made less sense for the Jays since their 2023-25 seasons are likely going to be better than their 2021 season, so going all in for a year seemed like bad timing. Makes me think Atkins wasn't really all that into him and it was mostly media propaganda, but who knows. Either way, I'm glad they went with Semien at 2B. Much better fit and keeps Bo at short. BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Cohen is definitely going to turn the fans against Lindor if no extension is reached, but all of that could be flipped if Lindor has an amazing season. Taking the negotiations public does nothing to help the situation though. If Lindor thinks a team will pay him 32 M/year until he’s 39, then that’s his business. Good luck to the team that will pony up for that.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Lindor isn't really the type of player that ages well, a lot of his value relates to speed and defensive range. Alomar is a reasonable comp for Lindor, and Alomar faded after his age 33 season. 12 years to age 39 and $385M is a helluva risk and a very Mets thing to do. Lindor is crazy not to take it immediately.

There’s like 4 or 5 all-star caliber shortstops available this offseason so the price should be slightly lower

I don't know if the Mets are having fans in attendance on opening day, but dude deserves to hear some boos.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 The Mets’ offer is parked at 10 years, $325 million. Lindor has not come off his counter for a dozen years and more than $50 million more. Of course, this can change in an instant. But to this point, neither side has engaged, and the Opening Day deadline Lindor set is now here. My guess is Lindor is confident in his ability have a bounce back year. If he has a typical Lindor season, 10/325 will be there in free agency. Wouldve loved Lindor on this team, but the Jays probably dodged a bullet tbh.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Lindor signs for 10/341. I'm really glad the Jays didn't trade for him and sign him to a contract like that.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 The Lindor extension already bearing fruit in the SS market. Obviously Correa is never taking that even with his injury history after what his pal just got. 6/120 is an insulting offer though lol.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Trade for Castillo while his value is low
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Spanky won’t take Castillo, believe me I’ve tried. Edit: oh you’re talking about the Jays.. nevermind. Haha

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Trevor Rosenthal to IL with "Shoulder inflammation" Yikes He was as risky as Yates
Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Trevor Rosenthal to IL with "Shoulder inflammation" Yikes He was as risky as Yates The difference being that he cost twice as much in guaranteed money than Yates did. Still think signing Yates to that contract was a great move even if it didn’t end up working out. They knew exactly what they were getting into. The upside was tremendous.

I preferred our gamble with Yates The A's really can't afford to blow 11M to get nothing from Rosenthal. Hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds...

Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I don’t know who Carlos Hernandez is, but he was throwing 100 mph sinkers last night. I’ll never underestimate the Royals ability to build a good bullpen out of seemingly nowhere. Davis and Holland looked good too.
